Mark Zuckerberg made another pitch for his metaverse this week, failing to placate investors. One analyst called it a "desperate" and likely doomed attempt by the company to reinvent itself. But Neil Campling, an analyst who is the head of research at Mirabaud, summed it up in one word: "desperate." And he said the Quest Pro, while much more expensive than Quest 2, was "a very fine piece of engineering." Some on Wall Street are also willing to give Meta more of a chance to prove itself, despite the costs.

Sept 27 (Reuters) - Intel Corp (INTC.O) plans to expand the Intel Developer Cloud to allow customers to try a range of new chips before they hit the market, a move it hopes will lure more application developers to use its processors, the company said on Tuesday. Chip companies are increasingly enabling software and hardware developers to test out chips virtually in the cloud before they are shipped to save time. A strong software developer ecosystem is increasingly becoming a competitive edge for semiconductor hardware manufacturers. He said Intel is trying to make the developer cloud easier to use and also trying to hook the next generation of developers to make applications for Intel chips. Cheruvu said young developers face a lot of pain points in understanding the technology and experimenting with them, and that the developer cloud was helping to address some of the issues.

Apple's new 13-inch MacBook Pro with the next-generation M2 chip goes on sale Friday, June 17, and will begin arriving to customers and in stores on June 24. It's the first computer to launch with the M2 chip, which was announced during Apple's developer conference, WWDC, earlier this month. The new MacBook Air will also feature an M2 chip, but a release date for that computer hasn't been announced yet. Still, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models can be configured with an M1 Pro or M1 Max chip and more storage, RAM, processing and graphics cores than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2, which means people who need even more power may be better off with those computers. Aside from the chip, the computer is otherwise largely unchanged from its predecessor.
