CNBC's Jim Cramer on Tuesday opined about his long-standing faith in Nvidia stock, even as the company shed significant market cap this week. "I'm simply going to stick with the stocks of the best companies in the market." Nvidia hit a $3.34 trillion valuation last week, surpassing Microsoft to become the largest company in the world. Cramer suggested that this data had a ripple effect across other consumer and housing-oriented stocks such as Lowe's , Home Depot and Fortune Brands . Cramer added that Nvidia and its megacap peers that can "pay cash" aren't concerned with interest rates.

CNN —A massive explosion on Tuesday evening near Chad’s capital city of N’Djamena killed at least nine and injured 46 others, according to a statement from its foreign minister. Video authenticated and geolocated to the international airport in N’Djamena shows a massive fireball and sparks rising in the night sky. Satellite imagery from Maxar Technologies shows that 17 structures at the ammo depot were destroyed. In the satellite image, the structures destroyed in the explosion were spread out, and in two groups that were at opposite ends of the complex. Chad’s president Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno said that an investigation will be conducted into the cause of the fire at the ammunition depot.

Reuters —A fire at a military ammunition depot in Chad’s capital N’Djamena triggered a series of blasts on Tuesday night, Foreign Affairs Minister Koulamallah Abderaman said, with witnesses saying at least one person was killed and several wounded. Another resident said his neighbor, a shopkeeper, was killed after a shell hit him. Then we saw a big fire at the military camp and smoke and things exploding in the air,” he said. “We could see artillery fly over us.”A Reuters witness saw flames and heard explosions for about an hour and said smoke was spreading around the city. The fire broke out just a few kilometers away from Chad’s main international airport, which authorities said was not affected.

Here are 9 stocks that can benefit from Fed interest rate cuts

Housing We see Stanley Black & Decker as a major beneficiary of Fed rate cuts due to its link to the housing market. On the one hand, lower rates mean a bank like Wells Fargo makes less money on the money it lends. Biotech Danaher should also see some benefit as lower rates lead to improved funding dynamics for biotech companies. Like in housing, monthly payments become far more manageable at lower rates, and therefore affordability and demand, stand to increase. Salesforce , which has also highlighted more measured deal activity, might not benefit as much from lower rates.

Read previewThis as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with a Chicago-area Costco forklift driver who requested anonymity as they are not authorized to speak with the media. I was a supervisor in the warehouse and then ultimately settled down as a forklift driver. Typically, Costco forklift drivers are seen kind of like supervisors, because you designate the flow of the building. I also make more as a forklift driver now than I did ten years ago as a supervisor. You can't keep it on the floor, so you're gonna have to rack it on tall steel shelves, and you're gonna eventually have to bring that stuff down.

We are buying 50 shares of Stanley Black & Decker at roughly $83.89. Following the trade, Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust will own 890 shares of SWK, increasing its weighting to 2.33% from 2.20%. The bear case around Stanley Black & Decker can be summed up in one line: mortgage rates are too high. We're not trying to forecast when the cutting will start, but we like the idea of holding onto a name like Stanley Black & Decker for when it happens. Of those seven stocks, Mizuho said its investment rating on Lowe's and PayPal were also above the Street consensus. Mizuho analyst David Bellinger's $280 price target implies that the stock could rally 29% from its Monday closing price. "We view Lowe's as decisively well-positioned as home improvement demand recovers and unleashes outsized, double-digit earnings expansion in the process," the analyst wrote. Similarly, financial technology platform PayPal has risen only about 4% this year, leaving its valuation "compelling" at current prices, according to Mizuho analyst Dan Dolev. Dolev's $90 price target is 42% above the stock's current price.

I shopped at my local Lowe's and Home Depot stores to see which had the better selection. The Lowe's I visited seemed better laid out and had a better selection than the Home Depot. Its peak $100 billion valuation once made it the world's third largest privately-held company, behind TikTok owner Bytedance and Elon Musk's SpaceX. Estimates have pegged Shein's IPO valuation at around $90 billion, Bloomberg reported last year. AdvertisementTo gauge what happens to some Shein items once they're returned, BI reporters in the UK put two AirTag trackers on Shein garments and sent them back. Shein is more directly involved in production and focuses on clothes, but Temu's popularity "could affect the valuation," Swartz said. In a November statement following the news of Shein's IPO, chairman Mike Gallagher urged investors and banks underwriting the move to "carefully examine Shein's regulatory and compliance programs."

Last summer, a book changed Kohn Glay’s life. He ordered a copy, and soon was back on TikTok, fervently recommending it to his followers. “If you’re on your spiritual journey, you absolutely need to go and get you one of these,” he says in the video, urging viewers to buy the book in the TikTok store. Glay, who is 43 and lives in Baltimore, began holding online classes to guide people through the journal. Over the next few months, people who watched his videos bought more than 40,000 copies of the book on TikTok, and Glay earned more than $150,000 in commissions.

The American shopping spree is losing steam

CNN —It’s becoming tougher and tougher for Americans to carry on with their spending spree. Years of elevated inflation and the highest interest rates in almost a quarter century are wearing out the US consumer. Savings accumulated during the Covid-19 pandemic are drying up, borrowers continue to rack up debt and delinquencies are marching higher. A second estimate of gross domestic product, released Thursday, showed that consumer spending was weaker in the first three months of the year than initially reported. Economists polled by FactSet are expecting data to be released Friday to show that consumer spending slowed notably in April from March.

Investors searching for income can find some bargains in dividend stocks, according to Ben Kirby, co-head of investments at Thornburg Investment Management. Now investors have an added benefit in that dividend stocks are selling at a big discount, he said. When looking for the right dividend stock, Kirby wants companies offering solid balance sheets and free-cash-flow, as well as competitive advantages and sustainable profit margins. Here are some of the stocks Kirby owns in his funds and that he particularly likes right now. If the reductions continue, coupled with the stock's dividend yield, "that alone will drive a pretty competitive return," Kirby said.

How long this trend will last is unclear, though it's clear a lot will depend on the direction of interest rates. This dynamic isn't surprising given a high interest rate environment that has pressured consumers. "Elevated interest rates are causing customers to defer their large discretionary projects," UBS analyst Michael Lasser said. "This means that a recovery should be robust as interest rates move lower." "Existing home sales also continue to be a material headwind to remodel activity as long as interest rates remain relatively high," Badishkanian said.

Younger Americans are finally outspending baby boomers, former Wall Street bank analyst Meredith Whitney recently noted. That's an encouraging sign for the US economy, which most economists believe is healthy, though some bearish prognosticators have serious doubts. There are several possible explanations for these findings and numerous takeaways from them, the "Oracle of Wall Street" said. However, young Americans' spending power shouldn't be discounted, as Whitney suggested that they command relatively high salaries since they attend college at higher rates. A continued economic expansion would be especially crucial for Gen Zers and millennials, who are entering the workforce or establishing their careers.

It marked the fifth quarter in a row that Lowe's posted a year-over-year sales decline. Roughly half of Home Depot's sales come from pros compared to about 20% to 25% at Lowe's. Lowe's is lapping a year-ago quarter when the company slashed its full-year outlook and posted a year-over-year sales decline.
