I use credit-card points to book almost all my travel, but I try not to carry a balance on my cards. AdvertisementI am a frequent traveler — on average, I fly at least once a month — and I put most of my expenses on my Delta co-branded airline credit card. As someone who books most of my travel with points and miles, here are things I'd never do. Caroline Purser/Getty ImagesIn my experience, it's rarely a good value to use my airline miles and credit-card points on hotel stays or vacation packages. It's my oldest credit card, and the interest rate is reasonable, so keeping it is good for my credit score for now.

The Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates by 25 basis points on Thursday. It follows a 50-basis-point rate cut in September — the first cut in four years. CME FedWatch, which forecasts interest rate changes based on market predictions, estimated an all-but-certain 25 basis point cut as of Friday afternoon. Advertisement"Borrowers should understand that 'falling interest rates' are not the same as 'low interest rates,'" Greg McBride, Bankrate's chief financial analyst, said in a commentary. CNN —Shares of former President Donald Trump’s social media company roared higher on the final day before the US presidential election. Traders have used Trump’s stock as a kind of barometer for the former president’s perceived reelection chances. Similarly, when Harris began to make a comeback in online betting markets, Trump’s media stock began to implode. The Trump stock is a “meme stock,” a speculative trade that can vary wildly for just about any reason. The broader stock market Monday was also bouncing around a bit, although it was far less volatile than Trump’s media stock.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday told investors not to write off the power of European markets, pointing out economic growth across the region. But he pointed out a number of developments in the European economy, including three rate cuts from the European Central Bank. Cramer suggested there's been growth across the continent, especially in southern rim countries like Portugal, Italy and Greece. Cramer added that he was impressed by growth in European markets that tech giants Amazon and Apple reported when they posted earnings last week. "Sooner or later, Wall Street's going to wake up to the fact that Europe is back," Cramer said.

U.S. homeowners are sitting on a record amount of equity, but higher interest rates over the past two years have made them reluctant to tap into it. While mortgage rates don't exactly follow the Fed's rate, home equity lines of credit, or HELOCs, are tied to it. "Over the past 10 quarters homeowners have extracted $476B in equity, exactly half the extraction we'd expect to see under more normal circumstances. Homeowners tend to use equity for home repairs, renovation projects and large expenses, such as college tuition. More supply is coming on the market, and primary mortgage rates are higher than they were over the summer.

A woman convicted of dressing up as a clown in 1990 and murdering the wife of a man she later married has been released from prison, putting to rest one of the more bizarre cold cases Florida has ever seen. Keen-Warren was arrested in 2017 in Washington County, Virginia, in connection with Warren’s 1990 murder. Initially, suspicion quickly focused on Michael Warren, the victim’s husband, as friends and family said the couple was having marital problems. Michael Warren served three years in prison, and in 1997 he vanished. But he re-emerged in 2002, marrying Sheila Keen — the same Sheila Keen-Warren who’s now charged with his ex-wife’s murder.

Whoever is elected the 47th president of the United States will start with a rare and clear advantage: a remarkably solid economy. Tuesday’s election will show how much that all matters to voters, who will soon decide which candidate they want to entrust the economy to from here. But to regular American households, it’s more of a “Yes, but” economy: Yes, the job market is strong, but my boss wants me in five days a week, and that doesn’t work for me anymore. Yes, inflation has fallen, but I can’t afford day care. Prices across the rest of the service economy were 4.7% higher overall, and medical care was up 3.9%.

One bit of clarity they’re sure to get: The Federal Reserve’s latest interest rate decision, due to be announced Thursday. The Fed lowered borrowing costs in September for the first time in more than four years while signaling additional rate cuts. But a slew of economic figures have been released since the decision, which is important because the Fed’s decision are guided by what those figures show. Investors are betting with near certainty that the Fed will deliver a quarter-point cut, according to futures. Lower rates could entice home buyers to come off the sidelines, and for businesses it could continue plans that have “baked in” lower rates.
