REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Purchase Licensing Rights New Tab , opens new tabJuly 13 (Reuters) - OpenAI whistleblowers have filed a complaint with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, calling for an investigation over the artificial intelligence company's allegedly restrictive non-disclosure agreements, according to a letter seen by Reuters. The AI company allegedly made employees sign agreements that required them to waive their federal rights to whistleblower compensation, according to the letter. The whistleblowers requested the SEC to fine OpenAI for each improper agreement made to the extent the agency deemed appropriate. The whistleblowers alleged that OpenAI issued overly restrictive employment, severance and non-disclosure agreements to its employees, which could have led to penalties against workers who raised concerns about OpenAI to federal authorities. The letter also asked the SEC to require OpenAI to produce every contract that contained a non-disclosure agreement, including employment agreements, severance agreements and investor agreements for inspection.

Sadly, that victim identity was only reinforced in the mid-2010s, when Duvall appeared on an episode of “Dr. Phil” episode with a ratings-bait title, the then 67-year-old actress made confusing claims and was apparently struggling with her mental health. It was buoyed, however, by Duvall, whose unique charm and childlike whimsy as host and presenter of each tale was the perfect fairy dust. The scale ranked AI systems by levels of intelligence, from chatbots at level one, to AI systems that could do the work of entire organizations at level five. Execs reportedly told staffers they believed OpenAI was at level one, defined as AI with conversational language skills, but was nearing level two, identified as "reasoners" with human-level problem-solving. Burden added developing AI systems to this level runs the risk of the machines "reasoning past us," something that could have consequences for the workforce. An OpenAI representative told Bloomberg the scale also included "Agent" and "Innovator" levels, which classified AI systems by their ability to take action and aid in invention. "We've got AI systems that appear to do a tiny bit of reasoning, but it's not clear if it's just a mirage."

Ms. Duvall wasn’t planning on a film career when she met Mr. Altman while he was filming “Brewster McCloud” (1970); she had thrown a party to sell her husband’s artwork, and members of his film crew were in attendance. Taken with her, they introduced her to Mr. Altman, a director with his own reputation for oddball movies and offbeat casting. She also starred as Olive Oyl opposite Robin Williams in “Popeye” (1980). “I thought: boy, if it’s this easy, why doesn’t everybody act?” she told The New York Times in April. Her work with Mr. Altman cemented Ms. Duvall’s career; with her gossamer frame and toothy smile, she was the go-to actress for any role that called for an out-of-the-ordinary performance.

Shelley Duvall, who died on Thursday at 75, had one of the most thrilling and complicated careers in modern cinema history. Discovered by the director Robert Altman, who became her greatest collaborator, Duvall fell into acting almost by accident. Her layered and detailed performances in the likes of “3 Women” and “The Shining” made her a celebrated star. In later life, Duvall retreated from acting and the public eye, but left behind a remarkable and diverse body of work. CNN —Microsoft has ditched the board observer seat at OpenAI that has drawn regulatory scrutiny on both sides of the Atlantic, saying it was not necessary after the AI start-up’s governance had improved significantly in the past eight months. Microsoft took a non-voting, observer position on OpenAI’s board in November last year after OpenAI CEO Sam Altman took back the reins of the company, which operates the generative AI chatbot ChatGPT. The seat meant it could attend OpenAI’s board meetings and access confidential information but had no voting rights on matters including electing or choosing directors. The observer seat and Microsoft’s more than $10 billion investment in OpenAI have triggered unease among antitrust watchdogs in Europe, Britain and the US over how much control it exerts over OpenAI. Microsoft cited OpenAI’s new partnerships, innovation and growing customer base since Altman’s return to the startup for giving up its observer seat.

Basic income trials have been conducted in countries as varied as Kenya, Finland, India, and Canada. Yet it's also given developers reason to be dubious: code produced by ChatGPT is often full of mistakes. 'Fewer hallucinated bugs'To begin, OpenAI is limiting CriticGPT's access to AI trainers. OpenAI has acknowledged that the more advanced its AI models become, the harder it can be for AI trainers "to spot inaccuracies when they do occur." AI models are also still susceptible to hallucinations that can be missed by AI trainers, OpenAI said.
