For Camilla, she accepts that there has been progress but insists that there is still a lot of work to be done to eradicate domestic abuse. Opportunities abound for income-seeking investors, even as the 10-year Treasury has seen a volatile week, according to BlackRock's Rick Rieder. The iShares Broad USD High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (USHY) , for instance, has a duration of 3.2 years and a 30-day SEC yield of 7.22%. Meanwhile, the Vanguard High-Yield Corporate Fund (VWEHX) has an average duration of 2.9 years, and a 30-day SEC yield of 6.03%. "You can stay higher quality, floating rate oriented, and clip yield," Rieder said. He thinks it's prime time for income investors to snap up yield without stretching into lower quality.

Nissan Motor shares slumped 6% in Tokyo trade Friday, a day after the Japanese automaker said it would cut 9,000 jobs and a fifth of its manufacturing capacity as it struggles with sales in China and the United States. It said restructuring would cut costs by 400 billion yen ($2.61 billion) in the financial year to the end of March. Nissan is also challenged in the US where it lacks a line-up of hybrids just as that vehicle type is in strong demand. On Friday, Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yoji Muto declined to comment to reporters when asked his views on potential government support for Nissan. “The company released its mid-term plan this spring, but in the end there was no meaning to that.

This photo illustration shows an image of former President Donald Trump next to a phone screen that is displaying the Truth Social app, in Washington, DC, on February 21, 2022. Trump Media shares soared Friday after President-elect Donald Trump reaffirmed he has no plans to sell off his stake in the Truth Social operator, and called on authorities to investigate whoever suggested otherwise. Trump's announcement, posted on Truth Social, was his first personally written statement since his stunning victory against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in Tuesday's presidential election. DJT shares shot up more than 10% immediately following Trump's post, triggering a temporary trading halt due to volatility. Shares plunged more than 22% on Thursday, undoing some of the company's gains from a surging rally in the lead-up to the election.

CNN —Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett stands apart. And that is why Barrett has become the best hope for what remains of the liberal wing, particularly after Trump’s election victory. As Trump returns to the White House, the Supreme Court may be even more positioned to check the balance of powers. Nonetheless, progressives have few options, and an uncertain horizon, and cannot help but imbue Barrett with hope. “As Justice Barrett said…,” is a common Kagan refrain, too.

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours delivered just that on my recent nine-day Mekong River cruise through Vietnam and Cambodia on the Scenic Spirit. Jill SchildhouseOne of the biggest trade-offs when sailing on an ultra-luxury small ship is the limited variety of venues and amenities compared to megaships. On my Mekong River cruise, Scenic brought in local performers to share traditional dance and music, offering a close-up view of the region's culture. After just one day on our river cruise, staff knew the names, preferences, and go-to drink orders of many guests. CNN —Like many other Middle Eastern economies, Bahrain has been trying to move away from its dependence on fossil fuels. In October, the National Bank of Bahrain launched a Bitcoin investment fund, aimed at institutional investors — a first for the GCC. Bitcoin is on track to hit the $100,000 price milestone by the end of the year after President-elect Donald Trump's election victory, according to analysts. Bitcoin at $100,000 "doesn't sound so unreasonable" given it equates to "just 10% of gold's market share," Butterfill told CNBC in emailed comments. BTC to hit $100K by Trump's inauguration A $100,000 bitcoin price is likely to be reached by the time Trump is inaugurated president on Jan. 20, 2025, according to Fadi Aboualfa, head of research at crypto custodian Copper.co. The dollar further unwound some of its sharp gains from earlier in the week as traders closed out profitable bets on a Trump presidency after his election victory. That helped lift sterling back toward the $1.30 mark, while the yen similarly got some respite and hovered closer to the 153 per dollar level. Sterling last traded $1.2983, recovering from its fall to a roughly three-month low earlier in the week. Against a basket of currencies, the dollar ticked up 0.03% to 104.44, on track to gain just above 0.1% for the week. CNN —Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen will win reelection in Nevada, CNN projects, holding off Republicans from adding to their incoming majority in the US Senate. Rosen, a former synagogue president who was first elected in 2018, is projected to narrowly defeat Army veteran Sam Brown. With Donald Trump projected to win Nevada, Rosen becomes one of several Democrats who were able to win Senate seats this year while the president-elect was carrying their states. Democrats focused much of their attacks on Brown over abortion rights – with Rosen attacking him on the issue even before he emerged from a June primary. Rosen, for her part, campaigned on being a staunch supporter of abortion rights.

One US company, just two days after Trump’s reelection, says it isn’t wasting time getting out of China. But here’s the catch: Steve Madden isn’t moving its production to the United States. ‘There for a reason’The retail industry has been crying foul over Trump’s tariffs for quite some time – apparel and shoe companies in particular. Trump’s tariffs could cost the typical middle-income US household more than $2,600 per year, according to research from Peterson Institute for International Economics.

Less regulation under a new Trump administration could also bolster Bank of America shares. "On regulation, BAC is a low-risk firm and could benefit from lighter regulatory environment, and we expect room to run with a proposal re-write on B3 potentially driving returns above our 15% normalized assumption," the analyst added. CNN —Pentagon officials are holding informal discussions about how the Department of Defense would respond if Donald Trump issues orders to deploy active-duty troops domestically and fire large swaths of apolitical staffers, defense officials told CNN. “Troops are compelled by law to disobey unlawful orders,” said another defense official. “But the question is what happens then – do we see resignations from senior military leaders? At the time, defense officials tried to include as few civilian employees as possible to limit the impact to the workforce, sources said. But “there are still ways a new administration could work around these protections,” a defense official said, even if it might take several months to do so.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in this week's election has raised questions about how Asia will be impacted. "When passed, the [tariffs] will sweep across Asia, particularly China [and] should spike volatility and compress multiples as uncertainty prevails." Even so, the analysts say the region is "more prepared than in 2016" and investment opportunities remain, especially given the weaker yen and stimulus in China. This will bring about "structural shifts in global supply chain ... [and] could boost infrastructure spending in ASEAN and South Asia," he added. The currency has fallen versus the dollar following Trump's win, hitting 154.7 per dollar on Wednesday — its weakest level since July 30.

That’s essentially what Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is experiencing with President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the White House. When a reporter asked the Fed chair if he’d resign if Trump asked him to, Powell didn’t miss a beat. Removing a Fed chair isn’t so simpleIf Trump, or any president for that matter, were to try to remove a Fed chair, they would encounter a steep uphill battle. Ultimately, the Supreme Court could have the final say on what merits a “for cause” firing of a Fed chair. Trump has tried testing the limits anywayNevertheless, Trump threatened to fire Powell on several occasions when he was first president.
