  + stars: | 2024-11-21 | by ( Jonathan Vanian | In | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +3 min
But CEO Jay Graber has some cautionary words for potential acquirers: Bluesky is "billionaire proof." Graber was referring to the way millions of users left Twitter, now X, after Elon Musk purchased the company in 2022. Bluesky now has over of 21 million users, still dwarfed by X and Threads, which Facebook's parent debuted in July 2023. Threads has roughly 275 million monthly users, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in October. Although Musk said in May that X has 600 million monthly users, market intelligence firm Sensor Tower estimates 318 million monthly users as of October.

Now, ValueAct has engaged another titan of the market, Meta Platforms, announcing an approximately $1 billion dollar position in the company. With the stock price up about 56% in 2024, ValueAct still sees significant untapped value in Meta. ValueAct has shown at Microsoft and Salesforce that it is very good in helping companies trim fat and build muscle. The AI spending, while concerning to some in the market, can be the muscle that strengthens Meta's core FoA business. It should more than justify Meta's AI spend.

Major tech companies have cracked down on fully remote work, including Amazon, Google, and Meta. Get into the office and soak up the knowledge within its walls, Google's former CEO says. Studies have also suggested that being fully remote decreases workers' productivity. Companies, including Amazon, JPMorgan, and Goldman Sachs, have ditched their remote work policies for full return-to-office mandates, with some even threatening to track performance or terminate those who don't comply. However, Google assured workers in October that it would not follow Amazon's expectations for staff to come into the office five days a week.

Mark Zuckerberg and T-Pain collaborated to release one of the most unforeseen songs of the year on Wednesday: an acoustic version of Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz’s "Get Low." Singer-songwriter and producer T-Pain followed suit, sharing the same image and referencing Zuckerberg as "Z," a nod to the pair's moniker on the track, Z-Pain. The collaboration was an anniversary present for Zuckerberg's wife, Priscilla Chan, according to his Instagram post announcing the song's release. T-Pain wrote on Instagram, "Z-Pain has arrived … Get Low by zuck and me out now." "Z-Pain's" version has a much slower tempo, complete with Zuckerberg's auto-tuned vocal serenade and a cameo from T-Pain.

In April, President Joe Biden signed a law that requires China’s ByteDance to sell TikTok by Jan. 19. Although both Republicans and Democrats supported the Biden TikTok ban in April, Trump voiced opposition to the ban during his candidacy. At TikTok, meanwhile, Chew has remained quiet since Trump’s victory, just as he had been in the lead-up to Election Day. In his March interview with “Squawk Box,” Trump said Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, posed a much bigger problem than TikTok. Since launching his TikTok account in June, Trump has amassed over 14 million followers.

The lawsuits are seeking some $5 million from four groups affiliated with Democrats and $1.8 million from FWD.us, a bipartisan nonprofit founded by Mark Zuckerberg. A Republican super PAC also led by Law, the Senate Leadership Fund, received $3.5 million in FTX funds in August and October 2022 that a separate lawsuit argues must be returned. Microsoft — like its Big Tech competitors — is introducing AI to its consumer products, from virtual chatbot assistants to notetaking and editing tools. In October, Microsoft introduced a sweeping update to its Copilot virtual assistant in an effort to make it more useful and user-friendly, CEO of Microsoft AI Mustafa Suleyman previously told CNN. Microsoft users will also see AI features in Notepad, Microsoft’s writing platform, allowing them to use the new technology to help rewrite or edit sentences. For example, users can type a sentence, and then prompt the AI tool to rewrite the sentence or modify its tone or length.
