Netflix on Friday announced it has secured exclusive rights in the U.S. to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031. The announcement comes just days before Netflix will stream its first ever National League Football Christmas Day games. Adding the Women’s World Cup to its portfolio shows the streaming giant is continuing to bulk up its sports rights portfolio. “I’ve seen the fandom for the FIFA Women’s World Cup grow tremendously — from the electric atmosphere in France in 2019, and most recently, the incredible energy across Australia and New Zealand in 2023,” Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said in a press release. The Women’s World Cup has continued to grow in popularity, and more people in the U.S. tuned in for the women’s final in 2019 than the men’s in 2018.

CNN —The next two editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup will air in the United States exclusively on Netflix in 2027 and 2031, according to a joint statement Friday from FIFA and Netflix. “This agreement sends a strong message about the real value of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the global women’s game,” Infantino continued. “FIFA and Netflix partnering together makes this a truly historic day for broadcasting and for women’s football.”Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Startup basketball league Unrivaled announced on Monday it’s closed a Series A funding round, raising an additional $28 million before its inaugural season. “Together, we’re setting the stage for Unrivaled for years to come.”The 3x3 women’s hoops league already secured $7 million in a seed round announced in May, meaning the league has received $35 million in total funds in 2024. The league has signed 36 top players and said it offers the highest average salaries across any women’s professional sports league. CNN —The US women’s soccer team qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games with an unbeaten record after its 2-1 victory over Australia on Wednesday. The US was victorious in all three of its group games, allowing it to book its spot in the next round as Group B winner with nine points from nine available. The US women’s national team will face Japan in the next round.
