There will be a lot of accounting of why Harris came so close but did not close the deal. I know the fundamentals of how and why Trump exists — I’ve written about them too many times to count — and I know that nothing about those fundamentals has changed. This election was about who told a better story about the fundamentals without promising anything to fix those fundamentals. I know that most Americans are center-right and that the left has not yet built the power base necessary to make most Americans center-left. She was always going to be the only legitimate candidate in a race against Donald Trump, a felon and self-aggrandizing political troll.

His rally speeches now feature a spoof video mocking trans people and their place in the U.S. military. In doing so, Vance was citing conservative anger about affirmative action and other programs geared toward historically disenfranchised groups. “Why are we debating trans people’s medical care? Clips show Harris affirming her support for federal policies that allow federal prisoners access to medical care including gender-affirming hormone treatments and, potentially, transgender surgery. By the time Trump takes the stage, multiple speakers have primed the audience on the issue.

Just 20 years ago journalists covered the tech industry "like it didn't matter, like it was this hobbyist, interesting, plucky thing." Without Peter Thiel, Vance does not get anywhere near the US Senate. And in Silicon Valley, the conservative movement is much stronger, and more muscular than it was before. Welcome to Opinion’s commentary for the third Republican presidential debate, held in Miami on Wednesday night. The debate didn’t answer the question of whether she can really cut into DeSantis’s more conservative bloc of support. He deserves praise for his substantive, competent answers, but there’s not much of a market for that in the Republican primaries. In a debate dominated by a neoconservative revival, Ramaswamy — in both style and substance — was the only Trumpist on the stage. primary voters relished his attacks on the Republican National Committee and the debate moderators.

If opinion polls are to be believed, Donald Trump has the 2024 Republican presidential nomination in the bag. But in a recent Times Opinion focus group with 13 Republican voters who are looking at candidates other than Mr. Trump, the idea that the race was all but over sounded off base, either because they don’t know any other Republicans who want Mr. Trump back in office or because he seems beatable for the nomination. “My Republican friends say they are for anybody but Trump,” said one focus group participant, Carrie, a 55-year-old from Michigan. In the end, we wanted to know, if the race came down in 2024 to Mr. Trump and President Biden, would they give in and vote for Mr. Trump? It was the most painful question for some of them — and yielded bad news for Mr. Trump but no silver lining for Mr. Biden, either.

Aug 23 (Reuters) - Vivek Ramaswamy, a multimillionaire former biotech executive, has a chance to build on the attention he has been getting in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination at Wednesday night's debate. Ramaswamy says he voted for a libertarian in the 2004 presidential election, but did not vote in 2008, 2012 or 2016. The book raised Ramaswamy's profile among conservatives, and he began his rapid ascension as a right-wing star. We’re looking back at the strongest, smartest opinion takes of the week from CNN and other outlets. In the US, prosecutors are given enormous power to apply the law as they see fit, choosing who to charge and what to charge them with. Evidence of their misdeeds can secure convictions and allow for strict sentences that otherwise couldn’t be imposed. Bill Bramhall/Tribune Content AgencyThe 97-page indictment unveiled by Willis last week cites a lot more evidence than could be arrayed against a sandwich served at lunch. “We are the chief law enforcement officers in each jurisdiction, with the weighty power to deprive others of their freedom,” Aronberg observed.

The College Board AP Psychology course contains such content.”“College Board requires educators to teach the entire curriculum for an AP course for college credit consideration,” it said, “therefore AP Psychology is no longer a potential course option for Florida students to receive college credit.”Other school districts in Florida made similar announcements. In the current fight over AP Psychology, the College Board has indicated it doesn’t plan to negotiate with Florida. That AP Psychology has even been caught in the crosshairs of the “Don’t Say Gay” law may surprise many Florida parents. In April, that plan became clearer when the Florida State Board of Education expanded its ban on instruction about sexual orientation and gender identity through the 12th grade. GOP presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Likely Republican voters, however, told the New York Times they'd prefer the government stay away from limiting what corporations can support. Ron DeSantis' presidential campaign is in hot water after a majority of likely Republican voters said they want the government to stay away from influencing what corporations can and can't support. As he continues to double and triple-down on his anti-woke schtick, it doesn't seem like it's doing him many favors in the race to become the GOP presidential nominee. CNN —The first Republican primary debate won’t occur until August. But the 2024 presidential primary campaign is well underway. Here are the currently declared Republican presidential candidates, sorted by their place in the most recent CNN poll of the potential GOP primary electorate. But those investigations have been ongoing for years now, and it’s not clear any allegations will hurt his strength among many Republican voters. Like most GOP candidates, he will struggle to find oxygen in a field that so far has been dominated by Trump.

Vivek Ramaswamy, a hedge fund analyst turned biotech executive, is the fifth-ranked candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, going by the Real Clear Politics polling average. We’re both energetic people.” And many of Ramaswamy’s views aren’t far from those of Gov. Ron De‌Santis‌ — who is polling a distant second behind Trump and is another anti-woke crusader. When he began his campaign, Ramaswamy tweeted: “We’re in the middle of a national identity crisis. Wokeism, climatism & gender ideology have replaced them.” His tweet came with a video that quotes Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech — the only King speech Republicans ever seem to quote.
DeSantis supporters revealed they were less inclined to vote for him after learning about his policies. Diving into the poll's results, 40% of all respondents — over 620 respondents — said they "definitely" or "might" vote for DeSantis. The pollster then asked respondents about eight of the policies that DeSantis has championed as governor, but didn't note the relation to DeSantis. Looking at the poll's crosstabs, however, and it appears that DeSantis supporters were less likely to vote for him after learning about his policies. DeSantis' signature achievements are unpopular amongst the massesDeSantis, along with the Florida legislature, hasn't shied away from unpopular policies in the past.
The Nashville shooter identified as transgender, according a police statement Monday that was later walked back. Some Republicans, including JD Vance and Marjorie Taylor Greene, are suggesting the shooter's trans identity played a role. We aren't aware of the shooters intentions in terms of gender identity," a Metro Nashville Police Department spokesperson said. As details of the shooter's identity began to emerge, some prominent Republican elected officials zeroed in on Hale's reported transgender identity. "How much hormones like testosterone and medications for mental illness was the transgender Nashville school shooter taking?"
