New York prosecutors told the judge who presided over Donald Trump's hush money trial on Tuesday that his sentencing should be postponed while the president-elect's lawyers file further legal arguments asking the case be dismissed. The proposal Tuesday from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office would need to be signed off on by Judge Juan Merchan to become official. A ruling against Trump on the issue would have paved the way for the judge to proceed with his sentencing, which was tentatively scheduled for Nov. 26. That case has been paused while Trump and some of his co-defendants seek to have an appeals court remove Willis from the case for an alleged conflict of interest. Trump's lawyers have contended that even if she’s allowed to remain on the case, any Trump trial would have to wait until he’s out of office in 2029 because of constitutional issues.

For “Interior Chinatown” star Jimmy O. Yang, playing an invisible Chinatown extra in the new series hit close to home. “Interior Chinatown,” based on the National Book Award-winning novel of the same name by Charles Yu, is technically a show within a show. His character, Willis, sneaks into “Black and White” by disguising himself as the tech guy and the Chinese food deliveryman, using these stereotypes to his advantage. Though Willis learns to jump between the worlds of “Black and White” and Chinatown, Fatty stubbornly refuses to leave the Chinese restaurant where the two friends work. “We were really strategic with when to highlight the fact that I came from both worlds,” Bennet said.

A Georgia appeals court on Monday canceled until further notice oral arguments on an effort by President-elect Donald Trump and other co-defendants to remove Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from the criminal election interference prosecution against them. The Georgia Court of Appeals acted on its own in canceling the arguments scheduled for Dec. 5. Trump and other defendants had appealed that ruling, and the Court of Appeals in June halted proceedings in the case pending the outcome of that effort. CNN —The Supreme Court declined Tuesday to let Mark Meadows move his Georgia election subversion case to federal court, effectively barring the former chief of staff during Donald Trump’s first term from claiming immunity from those charges. Meadows wanted to have his case heard in federal – rather than state – court, where he would be able to raise immunity claims. The Atlanta-based 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last year that the Georgia prosecution against Meadows should continue in state court, concluding that former federal officials are not covered by that statute “removing” state cases against government officials to federal court. The Georgia case has been at a standstill while an appeals court considers ethics allegations against Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Meadows has also sought to move his criminal case related to the 2020 election in Arizona to federal court but failed to convince a judge in September.

Being elected president will likely result in the federal criminal cases against him being dismissed, while his state criminal cases could at the least be frozen until after he leaves office. Trump’s legal team, meanwhile, is evaluating its next steps for how to get all four criminal cases resolved, and plan to argue soon that all of the cases “must stop immediately,” according to a source directly involved in the discussions. Here's a look at where the various legal cases against Trump stand — and how they could be affected by his victory. They argue that some of the evidence presented to the grand jury and at the criminal trial should not have been allowed in the wake of the high court's ruling. Trump's victory likely won't impact his pending appeals of the civil judgments against him that total more than $550 million.

With his comeback victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the books, Trump can rest easy. But he has not yet escaped from liability in a handful of high-profile civil cases, where he has been ordered to pay combined penalties of over $570 million. "In theory, there should be no effect" from Trump's election on those civil matters, former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani told CNBC. "It's well established that while a sitting president can't be prosecuted, he can face civil cases," Rahmani said. Yet this season he is on pace to produce marks in passer rating, air yards per attempt, yards per passing attempt, quarterback rating, passing yards and interceptions that are better than in either of his previous MVP campaigns, in 2019 and 2023. Goff has been a model of efficiency, completing 74.1% of his passes while posting career bests in yards per attempt and passer rating. While other NFC contenders have struggled, Detroit looks arguably better than a season ago. By rushing for a league-leading 946 yards on 6.5 yards per carry — an incredible 1.1 yards more per rush than he averaged in that historic 2020 season — he’s taken pressure off of Jackson. Atlanta rap star Young Thug agreed to change his plea to guilty Thursday in Georgia’s longest-running criminal trial, a stunning turn that, if approved by the judge, would bring his high-profile case to a close. The agreement comes after three of Young Thug's co-defendants took plea deals this week following mounting speculation that Whitaker could order a mistrial. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis used Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations, or RICO, statute to claim Young Thug and his associates are a street gang with ties to the national Bloods gang. Whitaker this week approved plea deals for three of them: Quamarvious Nichols, 29; Marquavius Huey, 28; and Rodalius Ryan, 18. An Alabama man was sentenced Tuesday to one year and nine months in prison for threatening a sheriff and a district attorney in Georgia over the jail mug shot of former President Donald Trump, prosecutors said. Hanson also threatened District Attorney Fani Willis, saying that if Trump was indicted, "anytime you’re alone, be looking over your shoulder." Hanson made the threats in two voicemails left for Labat and Willis on Aug. 6, 2023, before Trump was indicted or his mug shot was taken. A Fulton County grand jury indicted Trump and 18 other people last year on state charges related to efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia, an election that Trump lost. Trump was indicted on Aug. 14, 2023, and 10 days later, he surrendered to the Fulton County Jail and his mug shot was released publicly.

A co-defendant in the racketeering and gun conspiracy case against Atlanta rapper Young Thug accepted a plea deal Tuesday after days of speculation over whether Georgia's longest-running criminal trial may end in a mistrial. Young Thug and the others have been jailed since 2022 on charges of conspiracy and criminal street gang activity and additional firearm- and drug-related charges. The indictment accuses Young Thug, 32, of leading a street gang, Young Slime Life, or YSL, with members committing illegal and violent acts, including murder, armed robbery, drug dealing and carjacking. Opening statements finally began last November after several defendants had already taken plea deals while others chose to be tried separately from Young Thug. The defendants have denied they are part of a street gang and critics contend the RICO law is being unfairly used against Black hip-hop artists.

Four suspects were arrested and charged in connection to the home invasion slaying of a New Jersey detective earlier this month, prosecutors said Tuesday. "Detective Monica Mosley was a dedicated public servant who devoted her life to protecting the community," according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office. Cyndia E. Pimentel, a 38-year-old from Paulsboro, was arrested and accused of hindering an investigation, obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence. “This is a significant step toward justice for Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley and her family,” Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland said in a statement. "Our hearts remain with Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley’s loved ones and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time,” Sutherland said.
