Read previewThis as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Ruth Faulkner, a 34-year-old digital nomad based in Australia. I have very close friends in Australia, so I decided to move there to be with them in January. There are some cultural differences between the UK and Australia, but they've mostly felt minor. I'm unbelievably happy with my life changeI feel like I've embraced and accepted myself instead of trying to fit into a box. With the time difference, cost, and time required for travel, Australia can feel far away from everything, but so far, my life here outweighs this.

For the 67-year-old award-winning Zimbabwean, music has been the sole focus of his life. “My brother brought it home, and I thought, wow, that guitar,” Mhlanga added. Still, it was through collaboration that he made his mark, working with Zimbabwean music icon Oliver Mtukudzi. Mhlanga released his first solo album in 2000 and has since released more than 10 solo albums, EPs, and collaborative projects. After more than half a century playing his guitar, Mhlanga still aims to transform the African jazz sound.

Amateur buildEngineer Ashok Aliseril spent 18 months building a four-seater plane during the pandemic, helped by his daughter. Aliseril briefly considered buying an older aircraft, and looked at some that had been built in the 1960s and 1970s. After researching self-assembly aircraft kits, he came across a four-seater plane manufactured by South African company Sling Aircraft that ticked all the right boxes. “I would say generally, anyone can get involved in these sorts of builds.”Lockdown projectHe built a shed in his garden to complete the build. Although he’d initially planned to hire a workshop to construct the aircraft, Aliseril feels that creating a workspace at his home was the better choice.

But the company also has an underappreciated growth story as an attractive "pick-and-shovels" way to play the nuclear renaissance theme, Morgan Stanley analysts led by Kristine Liwag told clients in a research note Thursday. Curtiss-Wright builds a crucial reactor coolant pump for Westinghouse's third-generation AP1000 nuclear plants and there's growing interest in these builds in Europe in particular. Talk of a nuclear renaissance 15 years ago fizzled due to the political emphasis on renewables and competitively priced alternatives, the Morgan Stanley analysts said. Modernization of current nuclear plants in the U.S. is a $7 billion opportunity through 2050, according to Curtiss-Wright management. In a bull case, Curtiss-Wright could realize $4.9 billion in revenue through 2050 on AP1000 builds, Morgan Stanley estimates.

It exemplifies how the Royal Navy, the most feared world sea power in the 19th and early 20th centuries, is struggling to stay fit for purpose in the 21st century. A Royal Navy spokesperson rebuffed claims of lowered standards, telling Sky News that all recruits would still undergo a swim test during training. A version of this story appeared in the July 7 edition of CNN’s Royal News, a weekly dispatch bringing you the inside track on Britain’s royal family. Research in 2011 by Visit Britain found that around 60% of tourists to the UK are likely to visit places associated with the royal family, according to Ross Bennett-Cook, a visiting lecturer at the School of Architecture and Cities at London’s University of Westminster. While there is no more recent data on royal sites specifically, in 2022 Visit Britain found that history and heritage were the biggest pull factors for tourists. Peter Titmuss/UCG/Universal Images Group/Getty ImagesCornwall: Dear to local and international tourists alike, Cornwall, on the southwestern tip of the UK pointing out into the Atlantic Ocean, is also a special destination for the royal family. The medieval parish church of St Mary Magdalene is regularly used as a place of worship by members of the royal family and dates back to the 16th-century.

A new species of dinosaur, Vectipelta barretti, was discovered on England's Isle of Wight. The new species is an ankylosaur, with dorsal armor made up of plates, spikes, and curved spines. Researchers will have to examine other ankylosaur fossils to see if they belong to the new species. But the newly-discovered species, Vectipelta, is thought to have been between 6 and 8 million years older than Polacanthus and has a few anatomical differences. Since 2019, at least four other new dinosaur species have been discovered there and scientists aren't holding back with some of the names.

New armored dinosaur discovered on Isle of Wight, England
  + stars: | 2023-06-16 | by ( Jack Guy | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +3 min
CNN —A new species of dinosaur with blade-like spikes for armor has been discovered on the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England. Named Vectipelta barretti, it is the first armored dinosaur, or ankylosaur, to have been found on the island in 142 years, according to a statement from London’s Natural History Museum, where several of the researchers who discovered the dinosaur work. The dinosaur would have lived during the Early Cretaceous period, 145-100.5 million years ago, the museum said. The paper is published in the Journal of Systematic Palaeontology, and the team believe more new species will be discovered on the Isle of Wight, an important source of dinosaur fossils, in the future. In June 2022, scientists identified the remains of a spinosaurid, a predatory dinosaur with two legs and a crocodile-like face, on the island.

Robin Wight, who was celebrating the coronation along with his wife, Countess Paola Kovacz von Csaky, shows off the orders of knighthood and chivalry that he has received in his lifetime. "My CVO (Commander of the Royal Victorian Order) was for raising 65 million for the Duke of Edinburgh in 1999," he said. "And my CBE (Commander of the British Empire) was for setting up a charity called the Ideas Foundation, which gets kids from disadvantaged backgrounds into creative industries." Wight said he and his wife queued for 10 days to say goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II, and now they were here to say "hello" to King Charles III. "We worked together for 20 years, and I've known how great he is," Wight said.

A British MP has warned that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is scouting out ways to attack the UK. MP Bob Seely said sabotaging undersea cables in the area would cripple the UK if war breaks out. Seely, whose constituency covers the UK's southernmost territory on the British coast, said the UK and its northern allies are "dangerously exposed at sea." One of his chief concerns is that much of the UK's energy is supplied via undersea cables between Britain and Europe. Seely urged the UK to take new measures to protect undersea cables, saying it can "naturally lead" its allies in bolstering maritime defenses.
