In a "60 Minutes" interview that aired Sunday, FTC Chair Lina Khan said allowing Big Tech to go through hundreds of acquisitions in the past several decades was a mistake that hurt Americans. An FTC spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment. "After some of those firms were bought up by one of the big guys, all of those data privacy policies changed overnight, and so Americans lost those privacy protections." A WhatsApp spokesperson told BI at the time that the company disagreed with the decision and that the penalties were "entirely disproportionate." An FTC spokesperson told CNN in 2023 that, under Khan, the agency has investigated or sued to stop more than three dozen merger proposals.

CNN —Gabriel García Márquez’s last novel, “Memories of My Melancholy Whores,” was published 20 years ago, but the late Colombian author’s legacy did not end there. On Wednesday, the day García Márquez would have turned 97, the now-finished novel, “Until August,” was published by the author’s sons Rodrigo and Gonzalo García. But, as the pair acknowledge in the book’s preamble, García Márquez didn’t want the work to be released. The Colombian author’s memory loss undermined his confidence in his work, his sons said. García Márquez’s sons have confirmed that there are no other unfinished novels in storage.

CNN —The day after Valentine’s Day, a massive, fabulous funeral was held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York to honor the late, great Cecila Gentili. St. Patrick’s Cathedral is perhaps the most famous Catholic church outside of the Vatican. Enrique Salvo, pastor of St. Patrick’s, did not mince words in a statement he issued from the Archdiocese of New York’s office only days later. Cecilia Gentili's casket is brought into St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, on February 15. The Archdiocese of New York revealed its true colors with this statement, and along with them, the persistence of anti-LGBTQ judgment within the Catholic Church.

Read previewThe House just passed a bill to expand the child tax credit , bringing the relief one step closer to parents. On Wednesday night, the House passed the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024 by a vote 357-70, which aims to boost the child tax credit, implement low-income housing credits and disaster relief, and give businesses an R&D tax break, among other things. AdvertisementThe legislation — a rare bipartisan feat — would both boost the child tax credit and offer GOP-friendly tax relief for businesses that invest in research and development, among other measures. The refundable child tax credit would be increased from $1,600 a child to $1,800 in 2023 and would rise to $2,000 by 2025. Some GOP lawmakers were upset with the expansion of the child tax credit, along with the advancement of the tax package while other conservative priorities remained stalled.

I know that even Regina would know what wouldn’t fly. She’s going to find a way to inflict pain on people, but she’s not going to get herself in trouble. I was waiting for Ms. Norbury’s speech telling the girls to stop calling each other “sluts” and “whores,” and it didn’t happen. When Regina gains weight in the movie musical, the other students’ initial reaction is positive — but then she’s still shamed. Look at the famous people that influence Gen Z, and we’re still always talking about their bodies.

“'RAW' is just being authentic and being ourselves," says JT, who did most of the speaking in their interview with The Associated Press. Of course, that doesn't mean the album — true to their spirited party records and moments of real vulnerability — came easy. “I feel like, when creating music, it relates so much to your life, and as your life change, your music change. So, it's a lot of pressure from different sides, like people saying, 'Oh, you don’t sound like your old self. When asked about their place in hip-hop — on its 50th anniversary, no less — JT is acutely aware of City Girls' position.

Personally, I don’t care whether candidates for higher office are married — I don’t think it has anything to do with their ability to lead. (Even Donald Trump, with his divorces and reputation as a womanizer, could be photographed with his beautiful current wife and brood of kids.) And on the other: People Without Kids (PWOKS: self-absorbed, entitled, attention whores, grumpy about life’s inconveniences even though their life is easy). I read this piece on two levels, the cultural and the personal. As for the cultural, I think when people get into their 30s and 40s and aren’t married and don’t have kids, they’re often judged in the “Departed” style.

MILAN, June 12 (Reuters) - Silvio Berlusconi, the billionaire media mogul and former Italian prime minister who transformed the nation's politics with polarising policies and often alarmed his allies with his brazen remarks, died on Monday aged 86. Berlusconi, Italy's longest-serving premier who counted Russian President Vladimir Putin as a friend and gained notoriety for his "bunga bunga" sex parties, had suffered from leukaemia and recently developed a lung infection. Berlusconi's Forza Italia party is part of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's right-wing coalition, and although he himself did not have a role in government, his death is likely to destabilise Italian politics in the coming months. Farewell Silvio," Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said. After building a television empire in the 1980s, Berlusconi threw himself into politics in 1994 and almost immediately became prime minister.

The Slap That Changed Everything

Moving ahead, if boundaries were violated, I would rather let them think they had me, without ever really having me, as punishment for their overreach. Dissociation became essential protection from objectification, a way of leaving behind my baggage to feel lighter. Remaining carefree or unfeeling was an act of patriarchal defiance, even if it meant that along the way I lost some men who actually loved me. Over time, I became very fluid with my sexual and romantic boundaries and had a difficult time remaining monogamous. Men are not taught to feel shame in the same way as women.
Corley co-founded entertainment chain Dave & Buster's in 1982. A representative for Dave & Buster's provided WFAA with a statement on Corley's death. The first Dave & Buster's was opened in Dallas by Corley and his business partner David "Dave" Corriveau in 1982, according to a previous report from Insider. Despite the dubious past of Buster's, Corley says the bar made his huge success of Dave & Buster's possible. Dave & Buster's has opened over 140 locations across the US since its founding.
On Friday, Tory Lanez, legally known as Daystar Peterson, was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion, legally known as Megan Pete, during the summer of 2020. But there were moments when Megan Thee Stallion was failed during this ordeal, and we shouldn’t forget that. Megan Thee Stallion’s case isn’t the first time we’ve seen this kind of slut shaming. In her songs, Megan Thee Stallion has promoted the idea of women feeling comfortable and deserving of embracing sexual freedom. An imperfect victim doesn’t negate that they deserve justice, and failing to believe Black women won’t result in anyone’s liberation.

The Dark Scandals website, owned by Michael Mohammad, instructs users to send tokens to a Dark Scandals digital wallet to purchase content. While banks and payment platforms demanded more details from online merchants, many crypto exchanges for years requested little or no information from clients. The IWF received more reports last year of websites selling child abuse imagery for crypto than any year prior.
The U.S. Justice Department, in a report this September, said many crypto exchanges still "make little or no effort to comply" with know-your-customer requirements.
