In today’s edition, senior national political reporter Sahil Kapur examines the way Democrats can still exert some power in Donald Trump's Washington. How Democrats can still flex power in Trump’s WashingtonBy Sahil KapurRepublicans have won full control of Washington, but Democrats will retain two key levers of power to shape legislative outcomes in Donald Trump’s second term. That margin is slimming further as Trump plucks House members for administration jobs. The last two years showed how chaotic and dysfunctional this GOP-controlled House can be, even when the stakes are low. The Ethics Committee has jurisdiction over only sitting House members.

Artificial intelligence is expected to transform the way companies do business, including those in financial planning and investment management. That means financial advisors need to get onboard or risk being left behind. Of course, financial advisors have been using some technology, like financial planning software, for years. Still, AI will help financial advisors do their jobs better — not necessarily put them out of work. What to do Nexus Strategy's Welsh believes financial advisors should begin getting comfortable with current AI capabilities.

CNN —Filmmaker Payal Kapadia made history Saturday, as she became the first person from India to clinch the prestigious Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, the second highest prize after the Palme d’Or. It is the first Indian movie in three decades to compete in Cannes’ main competition. “Please don’t wait another 30 years to have an Indian film,” she said to the audience. “Indian stars shining bright… These women have scripted history, and inspired the entire Indian film fraternity,” he wrote on the platform. In 1947, filmmaker Chetan Anand took Cannes’ top prize for his film “Neecha Nagar,” becoming the only Indian to win the accolade.

The portfolio manager whisperers

AdvertisementHistorically, a hedge fund's chief investment office or senior portfolio manager was responsible for vetting and wooing key investment hires. They can also help hedge funds save on outside recruiting costs, which can add up to tens of millions a year. Hedge funds targeted institutional salespeople at investment banks with exposure to hedge funds, as well as asset allocators with chops in portfolio-manager selection and due diligence. Assets at multimanager hedge funds have boomed since 2018. The principle may work for fictional baseball diamonds, but the reality at hedge funds is more complicated.

The R.T.O. Whisperers Have a Plan

Resistors are typically senior-level employees and high performers, workers who aren’t worried that defying return-to-office rules will yield professional consequences. Those are the employees who when pushed to return to the office will quit — either on the spot or in the months after R.T.O. It’s not about remote workers detaching from work, but instead about people resisting when pushed toward working conditions they don’t like. Workers of color, who can feel marginalized within corporate work structures, tend to bristle at return-to-office mandates, Tsipursky said. A survey from FlexJobs, a remote-employment search site, found that 80 percent of women ranked remote work as a top job benefit, compared with 69 percent of men.

ghSmartThe company's unusual but rigorous approach to screening job candidates has won it the trust of some of the finance industry's most competitive and coveted workplaces, as well as other blue-chip corporations. "That became the kernel for ghSmart," Smart recounted in a podcast interview. That means the ghSmart interview isn't something you can necessarily prepare for in the same way you might, for example, read up on certain stocks or industry trends. The company's team of psychologists spends hours drilling into each candidate's job and life experiences. Unlike some executive-search firms, ghSmart disconnects its fee from whether it fills the role.
I fell hard for Bomman and Bellie, the husband-and-wife conservationists who have devoted their lives to caring for elephants. Their love for Raghu, an orphaned baby, is central to this film, which won this year’s Oscar for short documentary. It’s a poetic, visual treat about man’s relationship to nature and wildlife on a warming planet.

They have brought India to the world stage," singer Prudhvi Chandra, one of the singers of "Naatu Naatu," told the India Today news channel. In the film, made in the South Indian language of Telugu, and directed by S.S. Rajamouli, "Naatu Naatu" begins when the two leads, played by Ram Charan and N.T. When a young British man aims racist insults at the leads, they decide to educate him using the song "Naatu Naatu."
