CNN —Two women held in Suffolk County jail say they had encounters with the Gilgo Beach killings suspect Rex Heuermann, describing the meetings with him as “violent” and “aggressive,” sheriff’s department spokesperson Vicki DiStefano said Thursday. Rex Heuermann, the Long Island architect charged in the Gilgo Beach serial murder case, kept 279 weapons in his rundown home, most of them in a basement vault big enough to walk into, the authorities said on Tuesday. Mr. Heuermann had lived with his family in the dilapidated one-story house with the unkempt yard on First Avenue in Massapequa Park, N.Y., for years, commuting to his architectural consultancy in Manhattan. As they’ve worked, the house has become something of a tourist attraction for true crime fans and a daily encampment for news crews covering the case. Mr. Heuermann has been charged with killing Amber Lynn Costello, 27; Melissa Barthelemy, 24; and Megan Waterman, 22. He is the prime suspect in the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25.

CNN —A search warrant for property in South Carolina owned by the suspect in the Gilgo Beach serial killings sought possible “trophies,” among other items, the suspect may have taken after the killings, according to the Chester News & Reporter, which has seen the warrant. CNN has reached out to authorities in South Carolina to obtain the search warrant. The South Carolina warrant shows a long list of items under “property sought,” many of which are listed as “trophies,” the paper reported. The warrant also sought any firearm-related evidence or storage containers. The women, who disappeared between 2007 and 2010, all worked as escorts and advertised their services, according to police.

CNN —Probes into Gilgo Beach serial killings suspect Rex Heuermann now reach across the country as investigators are examining his connections to Las Vegas and South Carolina, where the suspect has owned property. The couple has since sold the first property, the records show, and it is unclear whether they still own the second. Heuermann has pleaded not guilty in the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello. FBI investigators were also seen talking to neighbors in the rural South Carolina neighborhood on Tuesday. When the police returned two days later, they found the remains of three other women — Amber Lynn Costello, Megan Waterman and Maureen Brainard-Barnes. They were all also found bound at the feet or ankles and wrapped in burlap along a stretch of sand about a quarter mile long. Seven other bodies would be found in the months that followed, including Ms. Gilbert, four other women, a man who was never identified and a 2-year-old girl. The bodies, two of which were only partial remains, had not been bound and wrapped as those in the first group were. But that dumping, he said, has generally been the work of an organized crime group or gang.

Authorities have said the suspect, Rex Heuermann, obsessively followed the case of the “Gilgo Four,” a group of four women whose remains were uncovered more than a decade ago near Long Island’s Gilgo Beach.
