To the Editor:Re “Trump Seen as a Threat to E.V. Sales” (Business, Nov. 26):It is ironic that President-elect Donald Trump, who claims he will make America great again, wants to kill offshore wind and electric cars. President Biden tried hard to get American industry back into the green transition by promoting domestically built green energy and electric cars. Mr. Trump apparently wants to turn it all over to China. The green transition will happen regardless of what Mr. Trump thinks.

The US government tracks what percentage of each car’s parts is made “domestically.” But under current trade law, both Canadian-made parts and US-made parts are counted as the same domestic content. “Yes, it’s America’s truck, assembled in America, but not with American parts,” Ivan Drury, director of insights for Edmunds, told CNN. Domestic parts could be tough to findFinding domestic supplies for many of the imported car parts would be difficult. Even if an American parts supply could be found, in most cases it would be more expensive. Fewer imported cars would raise all pricesTariffs on imported vehicles likely would also lead to higher prices on cars that are assembled here, since it would limit the supply of vehicles in the US market.

The dust has settled in Dnipro, Ukraine, where investigators are analyzing the wreckage at a weapons factory struck by a new Russian intermediate-range ballistic missile last week. But the debate continues over the strategic impact of the missile, known as the Oreshnik, both on the battlefield in Ukraine and what it means for NATO states in Europe. President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia touted the missile as an example of Russian technological prowess, built by a domestic military industry unimpeded by Western economic sanctions. The Oreshnik is also capable of carrying nuclear weapons, at a time when Moscow has increased threats of nuclear war. It is still not clear what explosives, if any, the missile delivered in the strike on Dnipro.
