Clean energy and clean vehicle companies added nearly 150,000 new jobs in 2023, the first full year of the Inflation Reduction Act, the report found. Of that total, the South added more than 54,000 clean energy jobs, accounting for 36% of all new jobs in the region. By comparison, the Midwest, Northeast and West combined added 95,000 clean energy jobs in 2023. The employment sectors analyzed in E2’s “Clean Jobs America” report include clean vehicles, renewable energy, battery storage, grid modernization and biofuels. Clean energy jobs now account for about 1 in 16 new jobs created in the U.S.E2 has released annual reports on clean energy job growth in the U.S. since 2015.

The program had marked a shift in Denver’s strategy of housing migrants in massive temporary shelters to providing individual resources. About 860 people are currently part of the program, which offers six months of housing, job training, language instruction and legal support in filing asylum claims, according to city officials. While job growth in the sector faces uncertainty after the election, industry watchers say the future of energy production and consumption is always changing. The IRA is projected to generate more than 300,000 jobs annually for new energy project construction and about 100,000 permanent jobs each year, according to EESI. The rate was more than double the growth for the rest of the energy sector and the overall U.S. economy, according to the newly released 2024 U.S. Energy and Employment Report. Recent data from the Department of Energy showed clean energy employment increased by 142,000 jobs last year, accounting for more than half of new energy sector jobs. One sector that faces particular uncertainty after the election is clean energy, which has received a boost from the Biden administration but faced skepticism from Trump.
