“It’s my medical opinion that there are no alternative reasonable explanations for Mr. Neely’s death,” the medical examiner, Dr. Cynthia Harris, told jurors. The medical examiner testified that Neely died of asphyxiation. Attorneys for Penny, who is also charged with criminally negligent homicide, have refuted the medical examiner’s findings. One of those detectives testified under cross examination that neither he nor the other detective had told Penny that Neely was dead when they interviewed him. Gonzalez said that after he held Neely’s wrist, he told Penny: “You can let him go.

What it’s like to live with a sleep eating disorder

And that’s what I did for years and years and years.”Jill is living with sleep-related eating disorder, also known as sleep eating — an arousal condition in which part of the brain wakes while the rest sleeps. Sleep eating is a parasomnia, an abnormal or unusual behavior during sleep, similar to sleepwalking, sleep talking, sleep terrors, and sleep sex, or sexsomnia. Ultraprocessed foods such as candy, cookies, cakes, doughnuts, chips and crackers are preferred choices during sleep eating, Schenck said. “All those can be the ultimate causes of sleep-related eating disorder, and that’s why in medicine, we call that a final common pathway disorder. “We studied a group of sleep-related eating patients in the lab, and they had periodic limb movements along with the sleep eating,” he said.

Five years earlier, Dorff had become the first patient diagnosed with an unusual disease called rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder, or RBD. By 1986, Schenck and his team had published their first paper on the newly discovered sleep disorder. RBD can affect women, tooLewy body dementia can refer to two different types of dementia: Parkinson’s disease dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies, which both affect cognition. Called the North American Prodromal Synucleinopathy Consortium, the research hopes to identify potential treatments for rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder and slow its progression into Parkinson’s and dementia. Tourette syndrome can't be cured, but I want to have more control over my tics. My tics started when I was a kidI started having tics around the age of 7. Despite these criteria, about half of children with Tourette syndrome go undiagnosed, according to the CDC. AdvertisementStress and anxiety can often make symptoms of Tourette syndrome worse, and college brought on a level of stress I hadn’t felt before. Most adults can inhibit that signal, but people with Tourette syndrome cannot.

It’s that second feeling I thought about while visiting Shary Boyle’s “Outside the Palace of Me” at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), an exhibition that considers how we create our identities and present them to others — and in turn, how those performances feed back into who we are. To visit the show is to step into Boyle’s palace, or at least one wing of it. “Outside the Palace of Me” is a contemporary art fun house — only the fun isn’t as innocent and uncomplicated as it was in childhood. The exhibition originated at the Gardiner Museum in Toronto, where Boyle was raised and still lives. In the 2000s, Boyle began to make ceramics inspired by the porcelain figurines that were popular among the elites of 18th-century Europe.

The arrival of warblers, vireos and other colorful birds last week has excited Britain’s twitching community — enthusiastic bird-watchers who will travel long distances to view new or unusual species. A sighting of a Canada warbler was the first recorded in Britain and similarly, a Blackburnian warbler was spotted in Ireland for the first time. Experts said twitchers should act fast if they want to see the North American arrivals, as the phenomenon will last just a few days longer. That storm reached Britain and Ireland last week, bringing several inches of heavy rain to much of Wales and northwest England. A tiny number reached Britain and Ireland, he added.

Benches come together to form the raft and are occasionally detached to use as platforms around the pool. As the shipwrecked passengers first scramble en masse toward the raft, splashing violently in the water, the sight is powerful. But near the end, the hangar’s tremendous door, near the side of the pool opposite the orchestra, slowly slides open. The survivors emerge from the pool and walk out toward the dark, vast expanse of Tempelhof Field, led by an emergency van. In his statement on Tuesday announcing the break from touring, Capaldi wrote, “The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write.”“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out,” he wrote. “But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”Tourette’s syndrome is characterized by sudden jerking movements and uncontrollable tics and vocalizations, and Capaldi could be seen twitching onstage during his performance Saturday. His next show was scheduled for Wednesday in Zurich, followed by performances across Asia, Europe and the Middle East. This spring, he released a Netflix documentary, “How I’m Feeling Now,” about his diagnosis and the management of his illness. He also discussed it during an interview with The New York Times last month, before he released his second studio album, “Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent.”

On September 23, 2022, 12-year-old Esmeralda walked out of the girls' bathroom at her middle school in Tapachula, Mexico, and fainted. Mexican President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador began including regular updates on the government's investigation into the fainting episodes in his daily press conferences. Dr. Carlos Alberto Pantoja Meléndez, one of Mexico's few field epidemiologists, had taken an interest in the fainting episodes. News of the initial fainting episodes had been shared there, the epidemiologist, who asked to remain anonymous, told Pantoja-Melendez. Both believe that the fainting episodes in Mexico were examples of something new and alarming: mass hysteria spreading online.

Most discussion of the Hollywood writers’ strike has centered on money: the studio chiefs, tech demigods and private equity oligarchs who have it and the writers like myself whose labor should entitle us to a greater share of it. One morning back in the summer of 2002, I was walking my dog when I got a call that my father was having a heart attack. Dad was a longtime Teamster, Local 340, which represents a grab-bag of freight jockeys, municipal workers and emergency services types. By the time I arrived, doctors had succeeded in dissolving the clot that had been choking off one of his coronary arteries. I found him lying in the I.C.U., less than a quarter of his heart muscle still functioning.

In a long-awaited report, a panel of independent experts convened by the British government said both those theories were unlikely, and that it had been "unable to identify a clear and convincing single cause" for the deaths. "We've ruled things out, but we've not been able to confidently rule things in...," panel member Tammy Horton, a researcher at the National Oceanography Centre, told an online press briefing. It was "about as likely as not" that a pathogen new to UK waters caused the deaths, it said, though no new pathogen was detected. Several of the factors it considered might in combination also have been a cause, it added. British Environment Minister Therese Coffey said on Friday she would consider if further analysis by government scientists might establish a conclusive cause.
