Donald Trump's attorneys are demanding the judge who presided over his New York hush money trial and conviction immediately throw out the case, saying it would be "uniquely destabilizing to the country" otherwise. The letter also cited presidential immunity as a reason to dismiss the case, and maintained Trump is already protected by it. "Just as a sitting President is completely immune from any criminal process, so too is President Trump as President-elect," the letter said. The attorneys have argued he can't be sentenced while in office because it would interfere with his constitutional duties. Trump was convicted earlier this year on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a hush money payment made to adult film actor Stormy Daniels.

Of course, these basic rules of political decorum are ones Donald Trump has rarely followed. He’s been accumulating political capital, and his victory only gives him an opening to accumulate more ... if he chooses to. On some level, I accept the notion that one person’s revenge is another person’s “reform,” so I’m sure Trump could argue he’s appointing reformists. What will ultimately matter is whether these folks can govern like reformers or end up simply as conduits for Trump’s revenge. Here’s the political problem Trump is creating for himself: He’s taking full ownership of the entire bureaucracy now.

Options on BlackRock's popular iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) began trading on the Nasdaq Tuesday, ushering in a new way to trade and speculate on the price of bitcoin. IBIT traded 73,000 options contracts in the first 60 mins of trading Tuesday, Nasdaq told CNBC, placing the fund in the top 20 of the most active nonindex options. The market for options contracts on major ETFs can be extremely active, and are widely used by more sophisticated traders. The launch of the bitcoin ETF options will likely also lead to new funds that incorporate those options, said Todd Sohn, ETF strategist at Strategas. While Gaetz’s ability to be confirmed appears on the rocks among Senate Republicans, President-elect Donald Trump’s team remains confident he will eventually be confirmed, even if it’s after an ugly battle. President-elect Donald Trump said Thursday he will nominate Todd Blanche, one of his criminal defense lawyers, to be deputy attorney general. The statement noted that Blanche has experience working for the Justice Department — something former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., Trump's choice for attorney general, does not have. Blanche was Trump's lead lawyer when he stood trial on charges of falsifying business records related to a hush money payment this year. ETFs have seen inflows of more than $58 billion since Election Day, according to State Street Global Advisors. Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway built a new stake in Domino's Pizza last quarter, according to a regulatory filing Thursday. The Omaha-based conglomerate bought more than 1.2 million shares of the pizza chain for a stake worth about $550 million at the end of September. Buying Pool, Selling Ulta Berkshire also took a small stake in swimming pool supplier Pool Corp. last quarter. It could be another value bet as Pool shares have lost 10% this year. Also in the third quarter, Buffett's holding company nearly dissolved its new bet on Ulta , selling about 97% of the shares.
