A prominent digital rights activist, who is transgender, confronted Rep. Nancy Mace at a public event Thursday, days after the congresswoman from South Carolina introduced a resolution to ban transgender women from using women’s bathrooms in the U.S. Capitol. A representative for Mace and Project Liberty, the organization that hosted the summit and invited Greer, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Greer’s organization is known for its viral protest efforts against internet censorship and surveillance and in support of net neutrality. McBride, whom Mace has repeatedly misgendered, said in a statement that she would follow the new bathroom rules as outlined by Johnson, even if she disagrees with them. In her congressional office, McBride will have a private bathroom, while all other public bathrooms in the Capitol will be banned for transgender people.

SAVANNAH, Ga. — David Shockley doesn’t understand his son Darius’ political ideology. “It makes no sense,” said David, who is Black and plans to vote for former President Donald Trump for a second time. The latest NBC News Stay Tuned Gen Z poll, powered by SurveyMonkey, found that more than half of Gen Z respondents ages 18 to 29 say they have different political views than at least one of their parents. Both David and Darius — two Black men in a battleground state — are emblematic of a voter base that Democrats and Republicans see as integral to success. “Despite the chasm between the political views, we still come together on our—” said David as he searched for the right word.

ATLANTA — The election could be decided in Georgia’s fastest-growing and most ethnically diverse county. Vice President Kamala Harris’ economic pitch has heavily emphasized small-business owners, and those in Gwinnett County — one of the “Decider” counties NBC News is tracking — acknowledge they could use more support. So far, many like what Harris is offering, though some remain undecided just over a week before Election Day. The county is exceptionally diverse, with no single ethnic group comprising more than a third of residents, according to 2020 census data. She also kicked off an “Economic Opportunity Tour” in Atlanta this summer, highlighting the administration’s economic accomplishments for Black communities.

The ads are part of an effort to energize male voters as Harris seeks to narrow the gender gap in support for her and for former President Donald Trump. Tim Walz, are continuing their outreach to male voters with campaign events, interviews and digital media content. Do I look like a country club kind of guy?”The Trump campaign has also made a point of courting male voters. Harris campaign spokesperson Ian Sams said in an MSNBC interview on Thursday that the Harris campaign has been in touch with Rogan but an interview has not been scheduled.

Younger Black men have received increased attention from the Harris campaign in recent days. Since January, Black Men Vote has been reaching out to its target audience in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, where the group says it has registered more than 100,000 Black men to vote. Black Men Vote has also partnered with barbers, who they’ve trained as voting ambassadors to talk to clients about civic engagement. Planning the local stops now can be as labor-intensive for campaign staff as putting on a full event, the sources said. The limitations on local stops is the new reality as both candidates race across battleground states in what polling has shown to be a contest that hangs within the margin of error. “In order to maintain operational security, the U.S. Secret Service does not discuss the specific means and methods used to conduct its protective operations. However, in this increased threat environment, the Secret Service is constantly adjusting our protective posture to ensure the highest levels of protection at all times and in all places,” U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Special Agent Matt Young said in a statement to NBC News. The McDonald's was closed for normal business, and the cars that went through the drive-thru were pre-selected and screened by Secret Service in advance.

Religion is making a rare appearance on the campaign trail this week in a presidential election that has dwelled less on candidates’ personal faith than any in recent memory. Vice President Kamala Harris is planning to attend services and speak at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church outside Atlanta on Sunday, while her running mate, Minnesota Gov. And Harris and Trump, along with their running mates, have complicated religious backgrounds that are harder to “sell” politically than Biden’s familiar Catholicism, he said. “I grew up in the Black church,” Harris told radio host Charlamagne tha God last week when a pastor asked about partnering with faith communities. “If you are not comfortable talking about religion, it really shows, so it makes sense not to,” said Faggioli.

As Election Day approaches, the campaigns are putting significant time and attention toward courting Black men, seen as a crucial — and potentially movable — voting bloc in a tight presidential race. However, that number drops to 68% for Black men under 50, compared to 21% who support Trump. “It’s very important to not operate from the assumption that Black men are in anybody’s pocket,” she said during an interview with the National Association of Black Journalists in September. For Trump’s part, efforts to reach Black men voters through campaign surrogates or Trump himself have lessened in recent months. Bartell also pointed to Kevin Cooper, a Black man on death row for killing a white family, as well as marijuana convictions of Black men.

As more retirees start to claim Social Security, there are not enough workers contributing to the program to make up for that increase in benefit payments. But the trust fund Social Security relies on to pay retirement benefits is projected to be depleted in 2033. watch nowBoth presidential candidates — former president Trump and Vice President Harris — have vowed to protect Social Security benefits. "Seniors should not pay tax on Social Security," Trump wrote on July 31 in all capital letters on social media platform Truth Social. Ending taxes on Social Security benefits would move the insolvency date of Social Security's trust fund closer by over one year, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

Her decision to appear on The Shade Room and other less traditional platforms has left many scratching their heads. But it’s a strategy to reach young, Black voters who are increasingly turning to social media for news. Fifty-two percent of polled adults under 30 said they have a lot or some trust in information that comes from social media. The anxiety abated for a bit when Vice President Kamala Harris replaced him on the ticket and her poll numbers spiked. With Harris' numbers stagnant now for weeks, many Democrats are once again fretting that the election is slipping away and that Donald Trump may yet regain power. Harris appears to be OK with the collective jitters, recognizing that if Democrats fear they might lose, they're more apt to show up at the polls and help her win. Polling shows that neither Harris nor Trump has built a lead outside the margin of error. Claims that Harris is an underdog amount to “a liberal plot to get us overconfident on the Trump side,” he added.

"There's a belief that movable voters move late," said one Harris campaign official, who described the thinking behind her approach on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak for her. Trump often derides nonpartisan media as "fake news" and an "enemy of the public," but he hasn't completely abandoned those platforms. Since she took over as the Democratic candidate for President Joe Biden, Harris' media strategy has evolved. A second Harris campaign official said her team believes it is now in a very small window where undecided voters are paying attention, and she can actually break through. Specifically, this official said Harris’ appearance on Fox News is indicative of the fact that she needs white working-class women.

As she steps up her appeals to Black voters, Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on a popular Black radio program Tuesday, saying she is still open to slavery reparations and slamming former President Donald Trump for allegedly sending Covid tests to Russia “when Black people were dying” back home. Drawing on a new book by famed journalist Bob Woodward, Harris slammed Trump for reportedly sending Covid-19 testing devices to Putin when the machines were in short supply back home. Harris also stood by her early support for studying the idea of slavery reparations, which she embraced during her first presidential run in 2019. But when she was asked directly Tuesday, Harris responded: “On the point of reparations, it has to be studied. Trump's campaign responded to the attacks in the interview by pointing to polls that find a majority of Black voters think the country is on the wrong track.
