The automotive company Kia issued a recall on Friday of certain Telluride SUVs from the years 2020 through 2024 and urged the owners of the vehicles to park outside and away from structures because of a fire risk, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. The issue stems from the front power seat motor, which can overheat “because of a stuck power seat slide knob, potentially resulting in a fire and increasing the risk of injury,” the NHTSA said in a statement. “To fix the issue, dealers will install a bracket for the power seat switch back covers and replace the seat slide knobs, free of charge,” the statement said. Kia recommended that drivers park outside until repairs were completed. About 460,000 vehicles could be affected by the recall, according to the NHTSA, and notices informing owners of affected Tellurides are expected to be mailed beginning July 30.

CNN —Kia is warning owners of almost 463,000 of its popular Telluride SUVs in the United States to keep them parked outside and away from buildings because the front seats could start burning. The recall involves 2020 through 2024 Kia Telluride models. In 2023, another customer complained of a smoke smell from the passenger-side power seat, which wasn’t working. In 2024, at least one Kia owner reported that the driver’s seat caught fire while they were driving. An investigation by Kia concluded that the problem was with the power seat switches that could be damaged in a way that causes its motor to overheat.

According to the NHTSA report, though, a main component of the SUV’s steering wheel may have been improperly assembled on the recalled vehicles. The report said affected vehicles could make a grinding noise when the damage occurs. All affected Telluride owners should bring their cars to a Kia dealer to get updated electronic parking brake software installed.

For more than half a century, a coterie of critics and filmmakers has been making the case for what’s known as auteur theory: the idea that great directors are the central creative forces behind their films, shaping them just as authors shape their books. But outside a relatively small pantheon of great filmmakers, most directors have continued to be overshadowed, at least in the public eye, by their movie stars. The Hollywood strikes are changing that. With striking actors forbidden by their union from promoting studio films, directors suddenly have the spotlight largely to themselves, if somewhat reluctantly. They have been the main attractions at recent film festivals in Venice, Telluride and Toronto and on press tours that were once organized around A-list movie stars.

And during a necropsy, wildlife officers came across a disturbing discovery inside the bear. “There was all these paper towels, wipes, plastic bag type materials, and indigestible food content,” said John Livingston, Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesperson. ‘Bears can smell things up to five miles away’A bear -- not the one that was euthanized — gets into a trash can outside a home in Colorado. Over a holiday weekend dedicated to labor, this year’s Telluride Film Festival attendees couldn’t help being reminded of striking workers: the members of SAG-AFTRA, the television and film actors’ union currently in a standoff with the Hollywood studios.
