Donald Trump and Kamala Harris' differing styles were on full display during dueling rallies Friday night in Milwaukee, the largest city in one of the nation’s most important swing states. Early in his speech, Trump gave a shout-out to Milwaukee Bucks’ star player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was born in Greece. As Trump has stoked new controversy with his recent comments about Republican former Rep. Liz Cheney, Harris again emphasized that she would listen to people who disagree with her. Harris continued to flex her star appeal, featuring musical artist Cardi B at her Milwaukee rally. “Thrilled to be back in this beautiful state,” Trump said.

The former president is returning to his hometown on Sunday for a rally in one of New York City’s most iconic landmarks, Madison Square Garden. Harris and Trump have made clear the issues they’re highlighting in the campaign’s last days. That argument illustrates what a Harris administration would look like compared with the threat Harris says Trump poses, the official said. The vice president continued that celebrity-fueled push Friday night in Texas – a rare visit to a state that is not a presidential battleground. The Madison Square Garden rally will be one of the most-covered moments of the race – with media coverage reaching into all seven swing states.

And on Thursday, Harris delivered an unscheduled speech focused on former Trump chief of staff John Kelly confirming Trump praised Adolf Hitler’s generals. The Harris campaign argues that the plan will tip some final undecided voters — a chunk of which are disaffected Republicans or independents. The Harris campaign says it is also focused on understanding what messaging could impact the small number of undecided voters that remain in key battleground states. “The two most motivating messages for Democratic turnout are those around abortion and democracy.”Some Harris campaign officials echoed that argument. Still, some Democrats who have worked with Harris worry there is too much focus on Trump and not on Harris’ unique skills and vision.

Clarkston, Georgia CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Barack Obama used their first joint campaign appearance, on Thursday night in this Atlanta suburb, to issue parallel warnings about the dangers facing the country if Donald Trump is elected again to lead it. Battleground Georgia is the latest stop in a late-campaign sprint by Obama, who has leveled at Trump increasingly passionate attacks and rounds of mocking. After Obama’s speech, Harris came onstage, where they embraced before the vice president delivered a nearly identical message. “What I can’t understand is why anyone would think that Donald Trump will shake things up in a way that is good for you. And it's not the only blockbuster-budgeted film to disappoint at the box office this year. "A combination of hits and flops are a hallmark of every box office year," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore. This was, perhaps, the closest thing the White Sox have had to a prideful moment all season. As The Athletic’s Jayson Stark noted, the White Sox have used 29 position players this season. After their most recent downturn — a 12-game skid — the White Sox besting the Mets for worst ever became a matter of when, not if. Getz insisted the White Sox are on the right trajectory and even said ownership will “potentially” invest more in the organizational infrastructure. Now members of this White Sox team will shoulder the burden of 121 losses and counting into an uncertain future.

Read previewFormer President Donald Trump's advisors and allies scripted his playbook to attack Vice President Kamala Harris during the debate. Harris baited Trump, starting by distracting Trump from talking about his favorite issue of immigration by getting him stewing about crowd size. Harris talked about how the Wharton School of Finance, Trump's beloved alma mater, has published research questioning his economic plans. He clearly seemed annoyed at the ABC News debate moderators who repeatedly interrupted the debate to fact-check his false claims. Trump's team echoed those claims online, arguing that the former president had to take on Harris, Muir, and co-moderator Linsey Davis.

“I think folks think it’s Trump reverting to his Id,” a longtime Republican communications adviser said. “The momentum is with Vice President Harris, and we just need to work our hearts out until Election Day,” Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., said. “We have multiple pathways to 270 electoral votes,” Dan Kanninen, battleground states director for the Harris campaign, said of the threshold for winning the electoral college. Project 2025, which had been attacked by Democrats, announced that it would stop working on policy after taking criticism from the Trump campaign. “Crazy Kamala is saying she’s Indian, not Black,” Trump wrote on social media.

Everyone wants Joe Biden gone. What if?’ We’re doing things the Democratic way. I went there growing up and have Proustian recollections of crispy French fries with vinegar sold on the Boardwalk. It makes me sad that Biden doesn’t see what’s inescapable: If he doesn’t walk away gracefully right now, he will likely go down as a pariah and ruin his legacy. The race for the Oval today is between two delusional, selfish, stubborn old guys, and that’s a depressing state of affairs.

What might have been surprising was which party would fit which role. Even as Republicans meeting in Milwaukee put on a show of unity for former President Donald J. Trump, Democrats are still stewing over President Biden’s insistence on staying in the race and in some cases even plotting how to press him to step aside. The assassination attempt against Mr. Trump last weekend diverted attention from the Democratic discord but did not solve the problem. Indeed, many Democrats are just as convinced as ever that Mr. Biden cannot beat Mr. Trump and should step aside in favor of a candidate who might have a better chance. Mr. Schiff’s decision was especially noteworthy because he is a close ally of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Magee, 30, told Business Insider that she came up with some of the types based on her own relationships. They break down into six communication types:Volunteers vs. Invite-Onlies: According to Magee, Volunteers share information about themselves without being asked first. Guessers only ask for things if they're pretty sure the answer will be "yes," and they think that when others ask them things, they're expecting a "yes," too. Plus, she said, our communication types can vary depending on who we're with.

“Our goal in Saudi Arabia is to develop a unified vision of the formula and to work out the possibilities of holding the future Global Peace Summit,” they said, referring to Ukraine’s peace plan. That summit produced no major headlines, nor a discernable drift to Ukraine’s prerequisite for peace that Russian troops exit Ukraine. Like the roads that led to Rome in its day, Saudi Arabia is increasingly at the confluence of competing global interests. In spring this year, Saudi Arabia and China announced a confidence-building peace plan with Iran to repair their hostile relationship. All of this of course is way outside the scope of the Jeddah peace summit and Russia’s unprovoked war of aggression in Ukraine.

Sometimes there’s not enough rain when seedlings need water, or too much when the plants need to keep their heads above water. Rice farmers are shifting their planting calendars. On top of that, there’s climate change: It has upended the rhythm of sunshine and rain that rice depends on. That’s a fraction of the emissions from coal, oil and gas, which together account for 35 percent of methane emissions. His experiment, carried out over seven years, concluded that by not flooding the fields continuously, farmers can reduce rice methane emissions by more than 60 percent.
‘Happy Valley’ Review: The End of the Hero’s Journey
  + stars: | 2023-05-19 | by ( Mike Hale | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +2 min
She’s a contemporary knight errant, upholding a code of decency against the terrors of modern life. “Happy Valley,” whose final season premieres on Monday (streaming on Acorn TV and AMC+, broadcast on BBC America), is a pocket-size, prosaic saga — a hero’s tale contained in three six-episode seasons and embedded in a family drama. Like all mythical heroes, Cawood has an antagonist, the psychopathic rapist and killer Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton), who is the father of her grandson. In its structure, “Happy Valley” is very much a traditional British crime series, with seemingly unconnected plot strands and investigations that wind themselves together against a backdrop of cop-shop politics. In the new season’s major subplot, a less-than-sympathetic female character is caught between two seemingly more capable men whose weaknesses run deeper than hers.

Metric measurements — also known as the International System of Units, or SI — are managed by a formal international organization. The prefixes Brown came up with are ronna and ronto for 1027 and 10-27 and quetta and quecto for 1030 and 10-30. In fact, SI units used to be based on actual, real-life physical artifacts. "If everyone sticks to SI prefixes," Brown says, "you don't have to go on Wikipedia to find out how long a light-year is or the power in 1 jansky." Pražák proposed sticking to Greek words and letters.
