After the crash, Ted Kennedy publicly referenced the idea of a family curse for the first time. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy leaves a courthouse in 1969, after pleading guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Ted Dully/The Boston Globe/Getty ImagesDuring his televised apology a week after the crash, Ted Kennedy said he had wondered "whether some awful curse did actually hang over all the Kennedys," The Washington Post reported. It marked the first time a member of the Kennedy family openly spoke about the reported "Kennedy curse," the Herald Tribune reported. "I was overcome, I'm frank to say, by a jumble of emotions: grief, fear, doubt, exhaustion, panic, confusion, and shock."

Thousands of Trump supporters in Milwaukee on Monday night hailed their leader, elevating him from MAGA superhero to saint-like status. For Trump’s millions of American fans, Monday night was a validation of their faith in God and the ex-president and the righteousness of his mission. A list of Black Republican and female Republican lawmakers gave speeches, offering a somewhat misleading perception that the GOP has a deep and diverse bench. One GOP source said speechwriters at the convention had thrown out all their pre-written material for the week’s top speakers and started again. The ex-president has a new chance at politics and life in the wake of his assassination attempt.

Tim Cook has delivered at least seven commencement addresses since becoming the chief executive of Apple. The superstar Taylor Swift, whose concerts have been credited with lifting local economies, addressed New York University’s graduation ceremony in 2022. Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Jamie Dimon — they’ve all given graduation speeches more than once. The appeal of being a commencement speaker, however, seems to be waning. Just three Fortune 50 chief executives appear to be commencement speakers this year, as colleges have faced campus protests over the war in Gaza, student arrests and wealthy alumni threatening to break ties with their alma maters over antisemitism.

In “Civil War,” tanks trample democracy. But the messages they send may be more dangerous than the violence depicted onscreen: The collapse of democracy is inevitable. In the film, Humphrey Bogart plays Rick, the cynical owner of a Moroccan nightclub at the onset of World War II. John Springer Collection/Corbis Historical/Getty ImagesOther World War II-era films like “Don’t be a Sucker,” which emphasized racial and religious tolerance in America, emphasized the same message. The box office success of “Civil War” ensures, though, that more “American carnage” stories are likely headed our way .

President Joe Biden is mad about his low polling numbers despite his economic successes. Biden also resisted when aides tried to keep him from public events where he could misspeak or trip. The low numbers stemmed from voters' discontent with Biden's response to the war in Gaza, the lawmaker said. "The man's been successful for decades in Congress and became vice president and president," one source who used to work for the administration told NBC. Another source speaking anonymously told NBC that Biden may be "a little mad at himself for not being more forceful with the staff."

I know we’ll get around to talking about Donald Trump’s big South Carolina primary win, but first I want to pick your brain about Joe Biden’s State of the Union address. It isn’t happening till next week, but I’m guessing the White House speechwriters are working hard on it now. Any advice on what the president should say and how he should say it? Gail: Then at some point he’ll turn to foreign affairs. Biden’s already laced into that one once, but he was so … vigorous that I’m hoping for a repeat.

A glossy brochure made by Zircon itself shows a luxurious gym and spa on wheels designed for Putin, the Dossier Center says. The room itself, documents from the Dossier Center suggest, is outfitted to help prevent the use of listening devices. The train is painted to look like an ordinary Russian Railways train. “There is a ghost train on the railways of our country,” one trainspotter wrote alongside an image of what appears to be Putin’s train he posted on rutrain.com. It is through the image of those domes that we know that Putin’s train carries the ordinary external markings of a Russian train.

ChatGPT is really good about writing things that are goodAt the same time, it's really bad at writing things that are great. If you're looking for answers to fairly uncomplicated questions that require a lot of data to be processed, it's a valuable tool. My clients aren't looking for a novelist; they're looking for someone to help them achieve their goal of becoming a respected thought leader. Such specialized skill sets abound in the professional writing world. I'm not scared of AI, because I'm using it to my advantageI do what I do far better than AI can, which distinguishes me from other professional writers who haven't found their lane.
"I'm committed to work with China where we can advance American interests and benefit the world," Biden said. "But make no mistake about it: as we made clear last week, if China threatens our sovereignty, we will act to protect our country. Investing in American innovation, in industries that will define the future, that China intends to be dominating," Biden said. Democrats have joined Republicans in demanding more information about the balloon and the Biden administration's policy toward the government in Beijing. We built a global coalition," Biden said, vowing to stand with Ukraine "as long as it takes."
Biden will deliver his second State of the Union address at about 9 p.m. (0200 GMT Wednesday). It will be broadcast live on major U.S. broadcast television networks and online by the White House and the House of Representatives. The speech could deliver Biden his largest television audience of the year. The White House has also invited Brandon Tsay, who disarmed a gunman responsible for a mass shooting in Monterey Park, California. Republicans have picked Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who served as White House press secretary under Donald Trump, to deliver their response.

Republicans have not yet announced who will be picked to give the traditional opposition party response to Biden's remarks.
