Air Products provides industrial gases and related equipment in end-markets such as refining, chemicals, metals, electronics, manufacturing and food. These long-term contracts functionally guarantee an unlevered double-digit return before Air Products even needs to put a dollar into the ground. Investors appreciate companies like Air Products for their low-risk and highly stable cash-flowing operations. On Oct. 4, Mantle Ridge announced a more than $1 billion position in Air Products, and echoed a similar sentiment and identified similar issues as D.E. We strongly expect that many of Air Products' other shareholders are concerned about the same issue.

After the first sign this week of potential profit taking in Nvidia (NVDA) since it's monster post-earning pop, now might be the time to hedge for further downside in the semiconductor space. I want to utilize SMH (VanEck Semiconductor ETF) to express my protective and bearish strategy. However, I do have concern about the stock's "over ownership" and investors who have become conditioned to NVDA's massive earnings beats. NVDA YTD mountain Nvidia (NVDA), YTD The protective trade strategy I want to implement is to define upside risk while seeking to finance the whole option strategy which will profit if we indeed see Semi's move lower. This also serves as a short-term hedge to any and all exposure you may have to the AI theme.

But some investors are concerned markets could be due for a broader unwind without the help from AI names. As it is, five of the Magnificent Seven names dropped last week, with the exception of Nvidia and Meta Platforms. That advance has helped the S & P 500 climb for 16 out of 19 weeks, notching record after record in its ascent. "A consolidation in the AI trade has been overdue for a while now, so Friday's key reversal day could signal the start of that unwind." Tesla investor Gary Black attributed the weakness in Tesla shares to chipmaker Onsemi's (ON.O) bleak forecast. "ON sells to automotive players with over 50% share of global EV sales, including 4 of the top 5 China EV makers," he said in a post on social media platform X on Monday. loadingOnsemi CEO Hassane El-Khoury said the company's top European clients were working to clear their inventory and noted that the company sees "increasing risk to automotive demand due to high interest rates." It contracted to 17.9% between July and September from 25.1% a year earlier due the EV maker's rampant price cuts, which also triggered a price war in key markets such as China. Tesla was trading at about 56 times its 12-month forward earnings estimates, compared with 5.6 times for Ford and General Motors' 4.1, according to LSEG data.

July 31 (Reuters) - Chipmaker ON Semiconductor Corp (ON.O) on Monday forecast third-quarter revenue above market estimates, on optimism that strong demand from the automotive sector will offset broader weakness in the semiconductor industry. Automotive chipmaker NXP last week forecast a strong third-quarter revenue and profit, exuding confidence over a steady automotive demand. Onsemi, which makes sensors and supplies chips to companies like Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE), expects revenue between $2.10 billion to $2.20 billion in the third quarter. For the second quarter ended June 30, the company's revenue rose to $2.09 billion, ahead of analysts' expectations of $2.02 billion. The revenue was boosted by Onsemi's power solutions group, which provides power management chips, making up about 53% of total quarterly revenue.

Images of another Tesla Semi on the side of the road are making the rounds on Twitter. Since Tesla started delivering its long-awaited Class 8 electric truck to customers last month, several of the vehicles have been spotted on the side of the road, apparently broken down. The sightings have called into question the reliability of Tesla's new electric semi, which started production at the company's Nevada manufacturing facility in October after years of delays. Yet another apparently stranded Tesla Semi was making the rounds on Twitter Thursday. Following Guillen's departure and a series of supply chain issues, Tesla pushed back the start of Semi production to 2022.
NEW YORK/SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 16 (Reuters) - PepsiCo plans to roll out 100 heavy-duty Tesla Semis in 2023, when it will start using the electric trucks to make deliveries to customers like Walmart and Kroger, the soda maker's top fleet official told Reuters on Friday. PepsiCo is the first company to experiment with the battery-powered Tesla Semis as a way of cutting its environmental impact. When Tesla starts building them, PepsiCo "will rotate those up" into its fleet, he said. PepsiCo declined to share details on the price of the trucks, a figure that Tesla has kept quiet. O'Connell said that a 425-mile (684-km) trip carrying Frito-Lay products brings the Semi's battery down to roughly 20%, and recharging it takes around 35 to 45 minutes.

[1/5] Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk waves near Tesla Semi electric trucks during a live-streamed unveiling in Nevada, U.S. December 1, 2022, in this still image taken from video. Tesla/Handout via REUTERSDec 1 (Reuters) - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) Chief Executive Elon Musk unveiled the company's first heavy-duty Semi truck on Thursday at an event in the electric automaker's Nevada plant, making its first foray into the trucking industry. Tesla said its other vehicles would used the powertrain in the Semi, and that the company will use the truck in its own supply chain to ship auto components. Musk said that the Semi has three times the power of any diesel-powered truck, and is the first Tesla vehicle and it is aimed at reduced the outsized emissions of the trucking sector relative to size of the fleet. Tesla also said that the Semi would use its regenerative braking to recapture kinetic energy to improve efficiency.
Musk had promised, for instance, that Tesla's mass-market electric sedan Model 3 would be priced at $35,000, a claim that bombed. But in October Musk said Tesla vehicles were not ready to take humans out of the loop. "Tesla team just completed a 500 mile drive with a Tesla Semi weighing in at 81,000 lbs!" For Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who has expressed skepticism about all-electric trucks, Musk said: "(Gates) can drive it himself if he wants!". "I want to take diesel trucks off the road," he said, adding that federal incentives for trucks that run on hydrogen could be more substantial than those battery electric trucks.
