Chappell Roan, whose career has seen astronomical growth this year, has become known for her eye-catching, drag-inspired outfits onstage. With only a handful of red carpet appearances on the books so far, the VMAs will be an opportunity for the "Midwest Princess" to share her unique style with the masses. This year’s awards show is being held at the UBS Arena in New York, and will feature performances by Roan, Carpenter, Eminem, Benson Boone and Anitta, among others. Here’s how the stars channeled their personal style into memorable red carpet looks.

CNN —Carrie Bradshaw, the lead character played by Sarah Jessica Parker in the 1998-2004 TV series “Sex and the City,” has always been more of a fashion daredevil than a fashion darling. Parker spotted in one of her character's more outlandish looks while filming for the new season of "And Just Like That." “Definitely too much,” read one critique under @everyoutfitonsatc’s post of Jessica Parker in the latter look. So has Bradshaw’s style really changed, or have we? It seems like a ripe topic for the character’s newspaper column, and one Jessica Parker has thoughts on too.

NEW YORK (AP) — Ever-present on the lips of Taylor Swift and the uniforms of both Super Bowl teams. The color red has gone boom as loud as TNT. The phenom that is Taylor Swift at boyfriend Travis Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs games was a red-hued wonder of a lead-up to Super Bowl LVIII. PARIS (AP) — Paris Men’s Fashion Week, ending Sunday, has witnessed a striking dichotomy of styles. Here are some highlights of fall-winter 2024 men's shows:SACAI’S BOLD WARRIOR CHICAs the sun set on Paris Menswear Week, Sacai, Japan’s commercial juggernaut in the fashion world, delivered imaginatively. This season’s Paris Men’s Fashion Week traveled from the elegantly understated to the boldly expressive. In contrast with this muted luxury, Balmain made a striking comeback to men’s fashion with a lineup that screamed opulence. Menswear week showcased the dual nature of men’s luxury fashion, oscillating between the quietly sophisticated and the unapologetically extravagant.

Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour: Best looks

CNN —It’s not the diamonds or the pearls that make Beyoncé that girl, but fashion is a critical part of what’s made her Renaissance World Tour unforgettable. In celebration of her seventh album of the same name, Beyoncé’s first solo tour in seven years featured a wardrobe fit for a queen. For me, during her Renaissance tour she is Queen B Beyond, a timeless queen that moves in a dazzling constellation.”“This ethereal and futurist femininity complements and extends her other looks in the tour that beautifully highlight other aspects of feminine empowerment,” van Herpen added. Here are some of the best looks from the Renaissance tour. Kevin Mazur/WireImage/Getty ImagesThis custom Balmain look by Olivier Rousteing was one of multiple silver ensembles Beyoncé wore on tour.

CNN —Opposites are said to attract, but the poles between Hailey and Justin Bieber couldn’t be further apart — at least sartorially. Was Hailey off to a sophisticated dinner and drinks, while Justin had just nipped out for a packet of M&Ms and some laundry detergent? Hailey, on the other hand, has worked to market herself as a modern-day It Girl, a title which unsurprisingly demands a captivating wardrobe. Justin and Hailey’s clashing ensembles sparked a thorny discussion on the semiotics of dressing as a pair. Had Justin committed to a pair of slacks or a button-down, his partner could have had her moment with no distractions.

When Seema’s Birkin was taken, it sent me right down the rabbit hole to “Sex and the City,” Season 3, when Carrie’s Fendi Baguette was snatched — and then a very similar Baguette reappeared in this episode. Jeremy Allen Once again, purse as plot point! How was that actually quite large Birkin just lying under shrubbery? JA I was also struck by how Covid really became a plot point for the first time in this series — especially sartorially. Callie Holtermann I caught myself laughing a couple of times during this episode — sometimes with the characters and other times at them.

“It’s a love letter to that time — a collection of some of the pictures I am most fond of,” Le Gouès said in a phone interview from Paris, where he is based. Thierry Le Gouès/Courtesy powerHouse BooksMost of the photos appeared in magazine spreads or fashion campaigns, which were Le Gouès’ main outlets at the time. Thierry Le Gouès/Courtesy powerHouse BooksIndeed, Le Gouès’ images are strikingly dramatic. “The ‘90s was a decade of experimentation, and that’s what I did when it came to my photos,” Le Gouès said. The other was Kate Moss, whose gold-painted portrait eventually ended up gracing the front of “90’s.” Le Gouès shot the image for British Esquire.

Has the Basic Black Dress Disappeared?

AS A BABY EDITOR at fashion magazines in the 1990s, I was raised on a steady visual diet of the chicest black clothes. The office grown-ups at Harper’s Bazaar, W and Vogue would glide down the halls in form-fitting knits or svelte Helmut Lang pants that grazed their Manolo Blahnik BB pumps. Their sleek black Jil Sander suits and pencil skirts were constructed with care. My middle-aged years, it seemed, were going to be sartorially amazing: Choosing an artful black wardrobe would give me license to ignore lesser trends, signify maturity and fill my closet with essentials to rely on for decades—especially once I had the financial leeway to splurge on quality pieces. My commute is 30 feet to an office above our garage, my co-workers two terriers that shed shamelessly, leaving anything I wear covered in hair.
For a lot of men, the easiest place to thin down this January is their feet. In the sock department, slim is in, and those thick, nubby socks that seemed so right for the past few years are now looking worn out, sartorially speaking. Not any slim knits will do. Stylish guys tired of sweltering below the ankle want texture, too. The product descriptions of this new wave of hosiery–with references to jacquard, waffle, herringbone and other more arcane weaves–suggest luxury sweaters.
