PHILADELPHIA — Elon Musk’s legal team filed court papers that delayed a potential ruling on a lawsuit over his super PAC's $1 million lottery-style giveaways. The federal court filing automatically blocked any immediate action in state court, where Judge Angelo Foglietta had already scheduled Thursday’s hearing. Summers said he planned to argue in federal court to have the case returned to state court. “We will proceed to federal court, and we will address the issues there and seek to have the matter remanded back to the state court,” he told reporters outside the state courtroom Thursday. “Let’s be serious.”“If anyone could land a rocket ship in Philadelphia, it’s Elon Musk,” Summers replied.

Why can’t we stop calling X, Twitter?

While some people (mainly fans of Musk) have embraced the X brand, most have not. Many people, both online and in person, still call the platform Twitter, and refer to posts as tweets. WHY ARE WE STILL CALLING THIS PLATFORM TWITTER. Even when you do see X, it's framed as "X, formerly Twitter". So the brand is what they say it is… it’s not that customers can’t stop calling it Twitter, it’s that they won’t.”

AdvertisementHedge fund manager Bill Ackman voiced his support for fellow billionaire Elon Musk on Saturday as the X owner faces backlash for retweeting an antisemitic remark. "It is remarkable how quickly the world stands ready to attack Musk for his shoot from the hip commentary," Ackman wrote. "You have said the actual truth," Musk wrote in his retweet, sparking a swift wave of online backlash. In his defense of Musk, Ackman reposted a video from conservative political pundit Ben Shapiro, who said Musk was unjustly being labeled as "some sort of crypto-Nazi." Ackman wrote that he agreed with Shapiro's analysis.

Musk’s invocation of free speech is nothing new for him. Instead of creating a platform for free speech, Musk created a platform for Musk’s speech — or, more precisely, Musk’s power. First, he has demonstrated that he’s perfectly willing to take action against people or entities that challenge him or challenge X. Second, rather than create a free marketplace of ideas, Musk uses X as a marketplace where you can pay to privilege your thoughts. It directs a human tidal wave of attention — some 140 million Elon Musk fans — to their accounts.”Taken together, all of these factors mean that Twitter isn’t so much a free speech paradise as the generalissimo’s playpen, and the generalissimo’s values shape everything about the place.

So What Do We Call Twitter Now Anyway?

The bewilderment stems from Mr. Musk’s move last month to rebrand Twitter, which he owns, as X. The rebranding has been hair-raising for Twitter fans, who embraced the company’s iconic blue-and-white bird logo and used a bird-related lexicon when talking about the platform. A tweet referred to a post; tweeting was a verb for posting, and sharing another person’s post was known as retweeting. Some people have wondered if the X name will stick, especially with the word tweets still appearing on the site. The app’s home button is also still shaped like a birdhouse, and the company’s website — at least for now — remains Twitter.com.

Elon Musk said he's planning to change Twitter's logo and get rid of its bird character. Musk pinned a tweet with a graphic of a new "X" logo, meaning he may already have a replacement. Elon Musk indicated he's planning to scrap Twitter's logo – and has even started asking users for ideas for his new X app. "And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds," Musk also tweeted. After Musk asked for suggestions, he continued to post prospective logos on his page, including retweeting the X.com logo Musk used for his online banking venture that was founded in 1999.

Am account that reposts viral posts is among the big beneficiaries of Twitter's new monetization scheme. The "Internet Hall of Fame" account appears to have netted $100,000 from the scheme. Musk previously said that accounts based on "theft" of others' post would not get paid. The "internet hall of fame" account, which has 1.9 million followers and describes itself as highlighting the "best of the internet," in a screenshot Thursday was shown to have been paid $107,247.00. He didn't define exactly what he meant by "theft of posts," and it isn't totally clear whether Internet Hall of Fame would meet that definition.

Elon Musk has decided to temporarily limit the number of tweets people can read each day. In his latest Twitter shake-up, Elon Musk has decided to temporarily control how many tweets users can read each day. The decision sparked backlash and within hours the billionaire said he had extended the limits to 10,000 for verified users, 1,000 for unverified users, and 500 for newly unverified users. On Friday, Musk also changed Twitter's rules to stop unregistered users from viewing tweets without signing up. One user poked fun at the risk the policy might reduce views: "Babe no your tweet's a banger!

CNN —Tucker Carlson is back — sort of. He wrapped up by declaring that U.F.O.s and extraterrestrial life are ‘actually real.’”“As of today, we’ve come to Twitter,” Carlson said in the video. Regardless, whether the Twitter show has the same influence and reach as Carlson’s one-time Fox News time slot is far from certain. Carlson faces an uphill climb if he hopes to reclaim the power he once enjoyed through Twitter videos. The first episode of “Tucker on Twitter” didn’t help.

Twitter's head of trust and safety Ella Irwin resigned from her role at the Elon Musk-owned social media platform. Irwin ran the Twitter team that fought disinformation, removed offensive content and helped maintain Twitter's platform integrity. But Twitter has experienced significant challenges in stemming offensive content under Irwin's tenure and since Musk began serving as CEO. Irwin's departure comes at a turbulent time for the social media network, which was grappling with the dissemination of a conservative website's purported documentary on transgender people. The video was uploaded to Twitter's platform Thursday but was "visibility limited," preventing users from retweeting or commenting on it.

That high level of engagement in Spring 2022 quickly fell, however, the Huge data shows, to roughly 5 million engagements per week. While there have been some brief spikes in engagement with Musk's tweets so far this year, overall there has been a decline.

To try and break my habit, I decided to slow down my phone experience with a new app called One Sec. Plus, studies have shown that things like app limits that merely measure your screen time won't break compulsive habits. Sandy Gould, a senior computer-science lecturer at Cardiff University, has researched ways to curb our compulsive phone tendencies. Frederik Riedel, the German-based developer of the app, told me that creating better boundaries was the motivation behind the development of the app. I can attest to that figure: One Sec has nearly halved my compulsive Twitter use.
Steve O'Dwyer griped on Twitter and during a live broadcast that Lufthansa airlines lost his luggage. He told CNN he tracked the bags with an AirTag, which indicated they were at Heathrow, but he still hasn't gotten them back. Following the tournament, O'Dwyer recounted to CNN his journey from Ireland to the Bahamas with a connecting flight at Heathrow Airport. In addition to the creator of the controversial Twitter account "Libs of TikTok," Trump also hosted Seth Dillon, who owns the conservative political satire website Babylon Bee, according to the source. This was among the first of many wine-and-dine events that Trump has planned with social media influencers, the source said. Twitter owner Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s account in November, but he has yet to post anything to the social media platform. The Twitter account has more than 1 million followers, and more than 300,000 followers on Instagram. Reps. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., and Mike Rogers, R-Ala., on Sunday publicly resolved their differences after tensions boiled over on the House floor late Friday night during the votes for House speaker. Rogers was physically restrained after he charged towards Gaetz. After Gaetz voted present in the 14th ballot, McCarthy approached Gaetz in the back of the chamber, where a tense exchange occurred, a number of Republican lawmakers crowding them. Rogers, the incoming chairman of the powerful Armed Services Committee, then walked over and appeared to lunge in the direction of Gaetz, but was physically restrained by Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., before storming away. McCarthy ultimately gained the votes to secure the speakership in the 15th ballot, when Gaetz and several other McCarthy opponents switched their votes to “present.”
Berger, a researcher on extremism and extremist movements on social media, explained what constitutes extremism and how Musk fits into the right-wing extremist ecosystem. Elon Musk wouldn't be considered a right-wing extremist, right? It's hard to say if he's an extremist, but he is most definitely implementing policies that favor extremism. Is Elon Musk just bad at his job and unintentionally letting these right-wing extremists through or is it more sinister than that? There's a mythology of the center that the far right advances and that is the mythological center that Elon Musk is interested in promoting.
Elon Musk polled Twitter users on Sunday about whether he should give up control of the company. Musk, who has run the site since buying it in late October, said he'd abide by the results of the poll. "Should I step down as head of Twitter?," Musk had tweeted. Shortly after posting the poll, Musk tweeted: "As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it." Some users and activist groups say there has been a rise in hate speech on the platform since Musk took over.
In fact, Musk spent most of Monday conspicuously quiet, refraining from tweeting for a remarkable 18-hour period. In one Sunday night tweet, Musk wrote, “No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive. Musk last month said he would “find somebody else to run Twitter” and that he expected to “reduce” his time there. The electric automaker bore the brunt of more bad news related to Musk’s Twitter obsession on Monday. As the saying goes, Vox populi, Vox dei.
CNN —Shortly before announcing her campaign against Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel, Harmeet Dhillon, a well-connected conservative attorney, phoned an important ally to solicit his thoughts. Republican voters and local officials have bombarded committee members with emails and calls about the party’s next chair, often berating them directly for the GOP’s underwhelming performance in the midterms, according to four committee members who requested anonymity to describe their experience. During the same period, her law firm received nearly $900,000 from the RNC, federal election data shows. We are all independent thinkers, and we know what’s best for our states,” said Jeff Kent, a committee member from Washington. “It’s very hard to beat an incumbent RNC chair if that incumbent wants to stay,” said Bill Palatucci, a New Jersey committeeman.
“I haven’t seen sunlight in what seems like a long time,” Li told CNN, a week after the protests broke out. Journalists, observers and activists monitored his feed closely, and some of his posts were aired on televisions across the world. And then they went to our house at midnight to harass my parents,” Li said.
