Courtesy of Victoria Craparotta and Flavio FabianiCraparotta and Fabiani aren't the only ones to get heat for updating an old home. A young couple renovating a starter home in Rhode Island told BI in May that they received "flak" online for making their 1950s bathroom, covered with bubblegum-pink tile, more neutral. AdvertisementFor Fabiani and Craparotta, modernizing the apartment reflects who they are: a young couple who don't want to live in an apartment from a bygone era in Italy. "A lot of people see Italy as this idyllic place and that it's all vintage," Craparotta said.

A couple moved from the UK to Portugal to live on an abandoned farm they bought for $103,000. The couple moved from the UK to Portugal to restore and live on an abandoned farm. The couple fell in love with the second property they viewed — an abandoned farm set on three acres of land. The couple — who were living and traveling around in a van at that time — bought the farm for 95,000 euros, or about $103,000. The Newbys have been documenting every step of their Portuguese farm renovation on their YouTube channel.

There are five stocks I would buy right now if I were just joining the Club, or had come into some new money. And Dupont has a ton of cash to buy back stock while it happens. As a subscriber to the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer, you will receive a trade alert before Jim makes a trade. Jim waits 45 minutes after sending a trade alert before buying or selling a stock in his charitable trust's portfolio. Housing market expert Ivy Zelman and real estate investing pro Scott Trench approach the housing market from very different perspectives, but they can still see eye-to-eye on some things. The two real estate pros took different stances when it comes to the single family housing market, however. "BRRR" was a hit in a lower-rate environment, especially as housing prices climbed over the last few years. Ivy Zelman is a housing expert who identified the market bubble in the 2000s and called the housing market turnaround in 2012. The forthcoming recession is going to trump all other housing market price trends, she predicted, and there will either be a correction in interest rates or in housing prices.
Scott Trench is the CEO of real estate investing platform BiggerPockets. BRRR is a way to make quick profits and build up a sizable real estate portfolio, and until recently, market conditions were very favorable for the approach. Interest rates have risen quickly by historic standards, but the fact that rates were going to go up significantly was clear in advance. How to handle today's housing marketWhile the last decade or so was great for renovators and flippers, Trench says real estate investors need to be cautious now. But now that it's much more expensive to borrow money, Trench said that listeners and forum members are looking for other ways to finance their purchases.
April 5 (Reuters) - When actor Russell Crowe began reading about the history of real-life Catholic priest Father Gabriele Amorth, who claimed to have performed over 50,000 exorcisms, he was intrigued. Crowe’s portrayal of Amorth in Sony’s (6758.T) horror flick “The Pope’s Exorcist” is based on the books the late priest left behind, which chronicled 36 years of exorcisms and other work for the Vatican. However, unlike previous exorcisms, the demon feeds off the exorcist's own guilt and regrets. While he knows this depiction of a religious figure may cause criticism from some, Crowe was determined to stick to Amorth’s accounts. “Everybody is going to have their own opinion, but these are books which are written from first-person experience,” he told Reuters.
