CNN —JD Vance is making a second pass at introducing himself to America as the Ohio senator attempts to put his uneven rollout as Donald Trump’s running mate in the rearview mirror. Vance is also expected to begin holding news conferences with reporters as early as this week, the source said. At a closed-door fundraiser in Oklahoma City last week, Trump’s finance team was hoping the former president’s new running mate would raise $1 million. The campaign was well aware of Vance’s past criticisms of Trump and the deeply anti-abortion views he vocally defended. Still, people close to both Trump and Vance argue that America has yet to learn how effective the Ohio senator can be when in the spotlight.

Trump called Vance 20 minutes before he announced he’d chosen the Ohio senator on Truth Social, a source familiar with the process told CNN. The two had met at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club on Saturday, before the rally at which Trump was shot in the ear. Trump is betting that Vance articulating his evolution from Trump critic to supporter will prove much more potent than those older comments. “President Trump honored the Constitution. “I’m here tonight to tell you, no matter your political background, the best chance we have to give our babies a better life is to elect Donald Trump president of the United States,” Rose said.

As frigid temperatures scour the Midwest, the Republican presidential nominating process will officially start Monday with Iowa's caucuses. Rarely has so much ridden on a second-place finish in the first nominating state. On the flip side, Trump’s voters are very motivated to support him. His aggressive, social media-driven approach initially attracted some curiosity from Republican voters but seemed to turn many off after he attacked rivals during the debates. ___For the latest updates on the Iowa caucuses, follow the AP’s live coverage.

Detroit (8-2), Cleveland (7-3), Jacksonville (7-3) and Houston (6-4) are currently in playoff position with a chance to end their droughts. Detroit has won just one playoff game since winning the NFL championship in 1957, nearly a decade before the first Super Bowl was played following the 1966 season. DeVito's victory was particularly noteworthy, as he managed to throw three TD passes and post a 137.7 passer rating despite getting sacked nine times against Washington. Purdy is 40 for 51 for 629 yards, six TDs, no interceptions and a 157.3 passer rating the past two weeks for the highest passer rating ever in a two-start stretch. People take photos by the Morgan Stanley building in Times Square in New York City, New York U.S., February 20, 2020. So the crushing conventionality of Morgan Stanley’s (MS.N)new chief executive selection, announced late on Wednesday, is almost certainly the point. The handover should be fairly civil, since the two CEO also-rans, wealth chief Andy Saperstein and investment management head Dan Simkowitz, both get promotions too. Andy Saperstein, previously seen as a contender for the CEO spot, will retain his leadership of Morgan Stanley’s wealth management business. He will also take on its investment management division, which manages and supervises $1.4 trillion of funds.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Oct 26 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Back in June the boss of $220 billion UK oil major Shell (SHEL.L), Wael Sawan, told investors mergers and acquisitions were not his priority. The decision of $430 billion Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) and $295 billion Chevron (CVX.N) to acquire $60 billion Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD.N) and $53 billion Hess (HES.N) respectively ought to change the game. But it would remain a stretch for either to ape their U.S. peers and buy a big oil group. Hess investors will receive 1.025 shares of Chevron for each share held, worth $171 per share based on the closing price on Oct. 20.

David Minkin, an attorney for Maui County, told Reuters that only a small portion, if any, of its land was involved in the blaze. Wildfire victims have struggled over the years to hold landowners liable, even for fires ignited on their property. Rick Linkert, a California attorney who specializes in defending wildfire cases, said it may not be easy for Wells' legal team to show negligence. They would have to demonstrate there was an accepted standard for managing grasslands and that the landowners ignored it, he said. Maui County has filed its own lawsuit against Hawaiian Electric, which it blames for the fire.

Never mind that “Blue Beetle” sounds like one of the also-rans mentioned in the superhero-dense universe of “The Incredibles”; the character has a long pedigree, with comic-book storylines launched in 2006, 1966 and even 1939. Franco Harris, a Hall of Fame running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers known for one of the most famous plays in American football history and considered one of the NFL's most iconic athletes, has died. President Donald Trump is boxing his own shadow as he seeks the Republican presidential nomination — and that’s not likely to change anytime soon. Dan Eberhart, a Republican fundraiser who once backed Trump but now wants DeSantis to be the party’s nominee in 2024, said there's time. In the world of GOP elites, the field is quickly narrowing to Trump and DeSantis, and the Florida Republican source said there is something unique about their rivalry. “The fact is Ron is different from any other Republican who might run against Trump,” the Republican said. But more than that, he said, Republican voters are exhausted.
