Opinion | You Can’t Perform a Good Marriage

I saw the new Netflix documentary series “Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal,” anticipating just some prurient garbage to half-watch before drifting off to sleep. That’s because ashleymadison.com is a website for married people looking to find partners in infidelity — its tagline is “Life is short. The heart of the series comes from the couples who were affected. Though one couple that had an open marriage seemed unruffled by the invasion of privacy, two other families are featured that were devastated by the hack. One of those couples is Sam and Nia Rader, a Texas-based Christian vlogging couple who had gone viral a few times before the hack.

Socialites are playing chess on "The Real Housewives of New York City." In 1990, according to the US Chess Federation, only 4% of chess players were women. Out in the world, chess' resurgence has been accompanied by a wave of new clubs and events. I made a pilgrimage to the Marshall Chess Club, a 109-year-old institution in Greenwich Village. The following evening, I went to an East Village bar and found a very different scene at Club Chess.

Buell implemented the transition from a chemical darkroom where film was developed to digital transmission and digital news cameras. He also helped create AP’s digital photo archive in 1997. It's ironic: We are at a moment where supply of money and demand for goods are intersecting. We have two markets: the Treasury market and the equity market, with the first more powerful than the second, even if we can't tell that in the scrum of earnings announcements. If the Fed signals more rate cuts, then we will be set up for higher stock prices if the companies deliver good earnings. The possibility of higher earnings so far has been controlled by supply and demand and the disinflation it is breeding, which may continue this week. Hence the power of their earnings to generate the mask of a higher market price-to-earnings ratio.

Sarah Gundle Sarah Gundle, PsyDThese are appropriate questions, when you consider the public fascination with stories about Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who was recently released on parole after serving eight and a half years for helping to kill her abusive mother. The revelation drove Gypsy Rose to seek revenge by convincing her boyfriend to murder her mother. Of course, the behavior of Dee Dee Blanchard and Debra McCurdy was beyond the pale, rising to the level of evil. And would Dee Dee Blanchard have been able to stop the train of destruction if someone had more doggedly recognized and confronted her mental illness? Maybe we need to heed the words of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who has said that trying to understand where her mother was coming from “brought me to a place of forgiveness.” Blanchard recently told CNN of her mother: “She was not an evil woman.

Indecent content is defined by the FCC as a portrayal of sexual or excretory organs or activities in an offensive manner without meeting the obscenity test. Profane content includes “grossly offensive” language considered a public nuisance. NBC is a broadcast network while CNBC is a cable network. “FCC rules on profanity don't apply to utterances on cable networks,” former FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said in a reply to an ABC7 Chicago reporter requesting clarification under the circulating post on X. Cable networks are not prohibited from airing indecent or profane content.

CNN —American women have a problem with booze. The messaging around women and drinking has reflected women’s shift toward the dysfunctional, which may then create a vicious cycle as more women see problem drinking cast as cheeky, fun or normal. And more women may now be paying the price for this normalization of alcohol abuse. I suspect many of them are turning to alcohol as one way to dull the painful reality of isolation. None of that will end alcohol abuse, which has been a centuries-long problem.

Bella DuBalle, a Memphis-based drag queen, said this law will hurt both her and small businesses. DuBalle has been doing drag for a decade and working as a full-time drag queen in nightclubs and other venues for three years. However, a new law in Tennessee that takes effect on April 1 threatens her business and that of fellow drag performers in the community. DuBalle believes the law will harm the income and livelihoods of both drag performances and the local businesses that feature them. Building a full-time career took perseveranceBella DuBalle has been a full-time drag queen for three years.
He designed a female avatar with pink hair and a face tattoo, and she named herself Lily Rose. As their three-year digital love affair blossomed, Butterworth said he and Lily Rose often engaged in role play. Sometimes Lily Rose sent him "selfies" of her nearly nude body in provocative poses. Now, when Replika users suggest X-rated activity, its humanlike chatbots text back "Let's do something we're both comfortable with." The coquettish-turned-cold persona of Lily Rose is the handiwork of generative AI technology, which relies on algorithms to create text and images.
A photo purporting to show Tennessee's Republican governor in drag in 1977 resurfaced on Reddit. The bill would limit where drag shows can take place under the guise of protecting children. Bill Lee after a photo purporting to show Lee in drag in a 1977 high school yearbook was shared on Reddit. Lee's spokesperson did not deny that the image was of the governor, but said that it was different to what Lee is targeting, which would stop drag shows taking place on public property. Lee told reporters on Monday that he plans to sign a bill that would limit drag shows in public under the guise of protecting children.
A GOP Arkansas bill targeting drag is so confusing it may not even apply to most drag performances, according to a constitutional expert. According to an Arkansas drag queen, the bill would severely impact the LGBTQ+ community. If enacted, it would classify a drag performances and places that host them as "adult-oriented" — like adult video stores and strip clubs. Arkansas drag queen MD Hunter has been "on the front lines" fighting against SB43On January 19, Arkansas drag queen MD Hunter gave a testimony before the Arkansas Senate about SB43. Despite the confusing nature of the bill, drag advocates are worried about how it could be applied.
This nascent bull market started with the peak in interest rates and the dollar back in the fall and then broadened to include bank and semiconductor stocks in 2023. That's right we created FANG a decade ago this week on "Mad Money," and it was a really good call — until it wasn't. The stability of a market that's based, in part, on the assumption of a JPMorgan (JPM) or an American Express or even a Boeing rallying on earnings, seems tidal to me. That's what's happening as we consider the market to be far bigger than any group of a half-dozen stocks. Yes, I am shredding the cynicism and heralding the new bull market, one that's not ignorant of what ails things, but is benignly rotational.
Two West Virginia bills aim to protect minors from obscene performances and materials, which the bills define, in part, as anything that includes exposure to or performances by transgender people. People who violate the bill regulating venues and performances, SB 278, could face a misdemeanor, a fine of up to $1,000 and/or jail time. Advocates in the state say the bills declare transgender people’s existence as inherently sexual and harmful to children. In West Virginia, legislators have introduced at least 10. Another West Virginia bill would allow 15% of voters in a city to recall “any ordinance or city code provision previously enacted by the governance.” Schneider said this bill, though it doesn’t explicitly name LGBTQ issues or people, could be used to repeal local nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people, which have passed in 18 cities in West Virginia.
All of her released songs so far have been produced by Riot (born Ephrem Lopez Jr.). The two met when they were both studying communications at SUNY Purchase, where Ice Spice also played volleyball, as she did at the Catholic high school she attended in the Bronx. They found a common language in drill songs that didn’t shy away from the personal, and that were lyrically emphatic, line by line. She also found that writing personal stories came naturally. “It’s just like a relief whenever I complete a song.”Before “Munch,” attention came in fits and starts, not all of it positive.

So far, Texas has taken the lead with 36 such bills, according to Equality Texas, a statewide LGBTQ advocacy group. Four states — Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee and Arizona — have enacted restrictions on gender-affirming medical care for minors, though federal judges have blocked them from taking effect in Arkansas and Alabama. State Sen. David Bullard, the Republican sponsoring the bill, told The Oklahoman that gender-affirming medical care is a “permanent change in your body that cannot be reversed. Accredited medical associations — including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association — have supported gender-affirming care for minors. Advocates and doctors who treat trans youth have said many of the health care restrictions proposed by state legislators mischaracterize what gender-affirming care is.

Opinion The 22 Debates That Made Us Rage, Roll Our Eyes, and Change Our Minds in 2022Debating is what we do here at Times Opinion. To many, she was an icon: She ruled for 70 years, presided over the transition from empire to commonwealth and served as a living link to the generation that won World War II. (Though Ben Bernanke, a former Fed chairman himself, wrote in The Times that that wasn’t going to happen.) The United States and its European allies poured weapons and aid into Ukraine, but how was this going to end? As 2022 draws to a close, the fighting continues and peace talks look as distant as ever — which probably means that the debates will continue.
GOP Sen. Mike Lee proposed a bill that would redefine obscenity and could upend the porn industry. Lee's bill targets content that has the "objective intent to arouse, titillate, or gratify the sexual desires of a person." The Free Speech Coalition, which represents the adult film industry, said the bill threatens the performers' livelihoods. Lee, of Utah, introduced the one-page bill, titled the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act, on December 14. —Free Speech Coalition (@FSCArmy) December 15, 2022Mike Stabile, public affairs director with the Free Speech Coalition, also told VICE News that the bill "has gotten a huge amount of attention."
