A Dallas anesthesiologist was sentenced to 190 years in federal prison in a case where he was convicted of injecting drugs into IV bags, leading to at least one death. He was sentenced in federal court Wednesday to a total of 2,280 months, which the judge ordered to be served consecutively. Doctors began to suspect an issue with the IV bags in August 2022, after a 18-year-old patient’s condition became critical during a routine sinus surgery, prosecutors said. Video presented as evidence also showed Ortiz “repeatedly retrieving IV bags from the warming bin and replacing them” shortly before the bags were taken into surgery, prosecutors said. Doctors testified at the trial, noting that the medical emergencies occurred shortly after new IV bags were hung during the procedures.

The wife of an Illinois judge was arrested and charged with fatally shooting her husband, according to Illinois State Police. Megan Valentine, 44 of Albion, was arrested Tuesday after the body of Illinois Second Judicial Circuit Court Judge Michael J. Valentine was found outside of a home, per a news release from police. She was charged with first degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated domestic battery, according to court documents filed in Edwards County Thursday. Two co-owners of a Colorado funeral home where around 190 decomposing bodies were found last year pleaded guilty Thursday to federal fraud charges, officials said. Some of the remains found were of people who died in 2019, four years earlier, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. The Hallfords also admitted to Covid relief fraud of around $800,000, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. The funeral home where the remains were found was later demolished, NBC affiliate KUSA of Denver reported at the time. Attorneys listed as representing Jon Hallford and Carie Hallford did not immediately respond to requests for comment Thursday evening.

Los Angeles Associated Press —Ron Ely, the tall, musclebound actor who played the title character in the 1960s NBC series “Tarzan,” has died at age 86. While Ron Ely was not quite as well-known as Johnny Weismuller, the Olympic swimmer who played Tarzan in movies in the 1930s and 1940s, Ely helped form the image of the shirtless, loincloth-wearing character further immortalized by Disney. “He was an actor, writer, coach, mentor, family man and leader,” Kirsten Ely said in an Instagram post.
