Gen Alpha is poised to be the most online generation, with AI and other inevitable advancements in technology and social media. I loved the phone, but using it for a week also made me realize how complicated excessive social media use is to solve. AdvertisementIt all reminded me of a conversation I had earlier this year with an ex-digital brand strategist about reducing social media use. I'd see memes from friends who forgot to text my Gabb phone and would get sucked right back into social media. Plus, the only reason I have social media boundaries at all is because I grew up being encouraged to have hobbies.

A popular influencer apologized this week for her past racist posts on social media, prompting outrage from some Black creators who say they are tired of white creators constantly having their previous racist behavior unearthed without significant repercussions. Who is changing if this same thing happens like clockwork?” said creator Cameron Kira in a TikTok video, which stitched footage from her own 2023 video in which she addressed a different creator’s racist tweets. Some Black creators also said that they feel white creators who previously posted racist remarks emphasize that they have changed with little evidence to suggest they have. She said it wasn’t until after college that she began to “shift her way of thinking.”In a follow-up video, Schofield said she “missed the mark” in her first attempt and directed her second apology to Black viewers. LONDON — British Prime Minister Keir Starmer convened an emergency security meeting Monday after far-right riots spread over the weekend, and residents of villages, towns and cities across the country woke up to scenes of buildings set on fire and asylum seeker hotels stormed by angry mobs. Nearly 150 people were arrested over the weekend, U.K.’s National Police Chiefs’ Council said Sunday. False rumors about the suspect quickly spread online, fueling an outburst of violence. On Sunday, two hotels where asylum seekers are believed to be living, were targeted by mobs in what has turned into the worst disorder the U.K. has seen in years. The South Yorkshire police, where Rotherham is, later said its officers were also targeted with glass bottles and beer cans by a crowd of about 700 people.

Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, on Monday called on President Joe Biden to replace Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Chairman Martin Gruenberg after allegations of widespread sexual harassment and misconduct within the agency. There "must be fundamental changes at the FDIC," Brown, who chairs the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, said in a statement. With his statement, Brown broke from fellow Democrats, who have largely condemned the allegations but refrained from pushing for Gruenberg's resignation, instead calling for him to drive changes at the agency. Law firm Cleary Gottlieb in April released a scathing report detailing an alleged culture of "sexual harassment, discrimination, and other interpersonal misconduct" at the FDIC. In one instance, Gruenberg allegedly screamed profanities at employees after they delivered bad news, the report said.

One Friday last month, Jamie Raskin, a Democratic congressman from Maryland, spent a chunk of his day in court securing a protective order. Mr. Raskin, who played a leading role in Donald J. Trump’s second impeachment hearing, said he received about 50 menacing calls, emails and letters every month that are turned over to the Capitol Police. His latest court visit was prompted by a man who showed up at his house and screamed in his face about the Covid-19 vaccine, Mr. Trump’s impeachment and gender-related surgeries. Nearly two years earlier, the same man, with his 3-year-old son in his arms, had yelled profanities at Mr. Raskin at a July 4 parade, according to a police report. He just needs some parenting lessons,” Mr. Raskin said.

In recent years, the free-market economist and the contrarian Austrian school he led midcentury have been turned into a hashtag deployed by tax-wary workers. Ludwig von Mises From Mises Institute“Ludwig von Mises is Latin America’s leading economist,” declared the headline of a Bloomberg opinion piece earlier this month by economist Tyler Cowen. His free-market policy prescriptions, framed by an economic thinking centered on human behavior and individual choice, were widely considered out of fashion at the time. “That is my jam!” Shapiro said of the Austrian school. “If you start to understand the concept of the Austrian economic school,” Moicano said in a recent YouTube video, “you’re going to understand that’s what I need: free market, liberties, and wealth, my brother.

Hundreds of demonstrators protested on Sunday outside an Orthodox Jewish synagogue in Teaneck, N.J., where 35 Israeli real estate companies were promoting their properties to potential American buyers. Cars honked in support, or drivers and passengers flung vitriol at the demonstrators. The demonstrators traded profanities and taunts with a much smaller group of pro-Israel counter-demonstrators, and police had to break up a few potential fights, but overall they kept the two groups separated. The real estate show, at Congregation Keter Torah, is one of several in the area this month that have sparked heated protests. And just before the local events, at a sales event outside Toronto last weekend, a man was arrested on charges of attacking pro-Palestinian demonstrators with a nail gun.

Josh Shapiro has a new slogan for how he wants to run Pennsylvania — and it's not fit for kids' ears. “There’s children here, so we’ll just say ‘stuff.’”That was the G-rated version of the line he’s been delivering in recent months. His social media team also has used the phrase online in videos. One of Shapiro's fellow Pennsylvania Democrats, U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, cussed routinely on social media while on his way to winning the Senate seat in 2022. Still, Fetterman — known for his blunt and irreverent talk — generally confined his profanities to his writings on social media when describing his disdain for, say, Pennsylvania's relatively low minimum wage.
