Passengers said a pressurization issue on a Delta Air Lines flight Sunday left them with bloody noses and ears. A spokesperson for the airline company said that Flight 1203 from Salt Lake City to Portland, Oregon, was unable to pressurize above 10,000 feet. Passenger Jaci Purser told NBC affiliate KSL-TV of Salt Lake City that she felt her ear pop and then bubble because of the pressure in the cabin. It's not clear what caused the pressurization issue but Delta technicians were able to fix it. The plane was briefly taken out of service Sunday morning and went back into service the following day, Delta said.

CNN —Some Delta Air Lines passengers are recovering after a pressurization issue on a flight from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Portland, Oregon, caused bloody noses and other issues, according to airline and passenger statements. “We sincerely apologize to our customers for their experience on flight 1203 on Sept. 15,” said a statement from a Delta spokesperson. Delta technicians fixed the pressurization issue on the aircraft, the airline said, and the plane was returned to service the following day. Caryn Allen told CNN affiliate KSL that said it didn’t take very long for passengers to notice something was wrong on the flight. No serious injuries were reported, but medical personnel identified 10 individuals in need of evaluation or treatment following the flight.

CNN —SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn mission kicked off early Tuesday, launching a four-person crew of civilian astronauts into orbit. The company confirmed that the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft carrying the crew reached its peak altitude of 1,400.7 kilometers (870 miles) at 9:19 p.m. The Polaris Dawn mission also marks the farthest any human has journeyed since the final Apollo mission in 1972 — and the farthest into space a woman has ever traveled. The pre-breathe protocol the Polaris Dawn crew is undergoing is entirely unlike what is carried out on the International Space Station. In this screenshot from video, the Polaris Dawn crew sit in the Dragon capsule shortly after launching towards space on Tuesday.

With scientists predicting yet another active year for storms, making your home hurricane resistant has become a more valuable precaution. "Already, we are seeing storms move across the country that can bring additional hazards like tornadoes, flooding and hail," he said. A separate forecast from hurricane researchers at Colorado State University predicts an "extremely active" hurricane season in 2024 due to record-warm tropical and eastern subtropical Atlantic sea surface temperatures. If installing new hurricane windows isn't in the budget, shutters are lower-cost options to protect windows and other openings, said Chapman-Henderson. CNN —The world will have to wait at least another week before the highly anticipated first crewed mission of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft. Starliner teams traced the leak to a flange on a single reaction control system thruster, where helium is used to allow the thrusters to fire. Both Boeing and NASA are developing tests and solutions for the leak, the release said. Meanwhile, Boeing’s rival under NASA’s commercial crew program — SpaceX — has become the go-to transportation provider for the space agency’s astronauts. The valve has since been replaced, but the new issue with the helium leak on the Boeing spacecraft that sits atop the rocket is causing further delay.

The Airbus plane had previously been used by King Charles, Queen Camilla, and other UK officials. AdvertisementA plane used by VIPs like King Charles and Queen Camilla had to make an emergency landing after three windowpanes fell out mid-flight. The lights, used to convey a sunrise, had been aimed at the windows for several hours at a time, the report said. A hole burned through one of the windows while five other windows were deformed after 2,000W lights were used, the report said. If high-intensity lights were used, it suggested keeping use to a minimum and away from windows.

California aerospace startup JetZero got the green light to fly its new "Pathfinder" aircraft. The composite technology makes this new load bearing possible, Bragg told BI. "The product is essentially a new airframe and flight controls married to existing systems already certified for commercial flight," JetZero told BI. And most of those 200+ passengers would be in the middle section without a window, which Bragg told BI could put off travelers. Later, American aircraft industrialist and designer Jack Northrop built his famous "Flying Wing" aircraft in the 1940s, laying the framework for the eventual B-2 bomber.

CNN —Alaska Airlines flight 1282, on which a door plug blew off the side of the plane shortly after takeoff on January 5, was scheduled to be taken out of service for maintenance the night of the incident, the airline said Tuesday. Such deferred maintenance is common and legal, and the plane had made 154 successful flights before the blowout. It’s not clear that an expedited maintenance schedule would have led Alaska Airlines to discover that problem. “The U.S. aviation system is the safest in the world because it relies on layers: redundant systems, robust processes and procedures, and the willingness to stop and ensure things are right before every takeoff,” Alaska Airlines said in a statement. Although the revelation that the plane was scheduled for service the same day as the blowout does not necessarily suggest any wrongdoing by Alaska Airlines, it does raise further concerns about policies and regulations surrounding maintenance of America’s fleet of aircraft.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A “whistling sound” was heard on a previous flight of the Boeing 737 Max 9 whose door plug blew out during an Alaska Airlines flight last month, an attorney representing passengers in a lawsuit said in new court documents. On Wednesday, he filed an amended complaint that adds 18 additional passenger plaintiffs and includes the new allegations concerning the previous flight. He did not specify who they were and declined to confirm whether they were passengers or crew members on the previous flight. He also declined to specify when the previous flight occurred. She cautioned, however, that the pressurization light might be unrelated to the door plug blowout.

CNN —A loud bang, a jolt, and cold air whooshing suddenly through the cabin: these were the immediate signs that something was very wrong aboard Alaska Airlines flight 1282, according to one passenger report. As investigators work to determine exactly what caused the incident, we look at what happens when an aircraft experiences a sudden loss of cabin pressure and the risks for those on board. “As the aircraft climbs, the cabin pressure will eventually settle to about 8,000 feet. The flight crew will immediately start working to get the aircraft down to about 10,000 feet, where the air will be breathable. There will also be a massive wind blast as all that pressure in the cabin goes out the hole.

If your partner got down on one knee and asked you to marry them today, would you say yes? What if you found out the ring destined for your finger boasts a lab-grown diamond? The chances of that engagement ring bearing a man-made diamond are higher than you might think. Global sales for lab-grown diamonds increased to $12 billion in 2022, up 38% year over year, per an analysis by New York-based Paul Zimnisky, a financial and diamond industry analyst. "It's very difficult to resell a lab diamond, and as the price gets lower, I don't think there's going to be a resale market for lab diamonds," Zimnisky said.

“That is a staggering leap forward in comparison to what the industry is used to.”A rendering of JetZero's blended wing design. American aircraft designer and industrialist Jack Northrop created a jet-powered flying wing design in 1947, which inspired the B-2 in the 1990s. NASAIn 2020, Airbus built a small blended wing demonstrator, about six feet in length, signaling interest in pursuing a full-size aircraft in the future. Similarly, JetZero wants to simultaneously develop three variants: a passenger plane, a cargo plane and a fuel tanker. “Extensive aerodynamic testing and optimization are essential to fully realize the drag reduction potential of this innovative aircraft design.
