CNN —More than half a million people have been evacuated from their homes as Super Typhoon Man-yi made landfall along the eastern coast of Catanduanes, Philippines on Saturday. A further 18,000 were preemptively evacuated from the Eastern Samar and Samar provinces, PNA reported, with patients and staff members of Eastern Samar’s Arteche District Hospital being evacuated to the area’s municipal hall. Man-yi underwent rapid intensification on Friday, jumping from a tropical storm early Friday to a super typhoon early Saturday. Hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated from their homes as others made preparations for the typhoon ahead of its landfall on Saturday. After crossing Catanduanes, Man-yi is expected to make another landfall about 70 miles (110 km) northeast of Manila Sunday afternoon.

In just one hour, nearly a month’s worth of rainfall inundated the city of Malaga, in Spain’s Andalusia region, according to the country’s meteorological agency AEMet. The southern Spanish province picked up roughly 100 millimeters (4 inches) of rain so far on Wednesday, 78 millimeters (3 inches) of which fell within an hour. The Malaga City Council issued evacuation orders Wednesday near the Campanillas River due to the risk of overflowing. The coastal area of Valencia province has now been issued a red weather warning for Thursday. The City Council of Valencia announced that school activities are suspended throughout Valencia city and its districts this Wednesday and Thursday to avoid risks.

Kamberlyn Bowler, 15, said she ate McDonald's Quarter Pounders in the days before she became ill.At least 75 people have been infected with E. coli in an outbreak that McDonald's has said is likely linked to slivered onions served on Quarter Pounders. The previously healthy, active 15-year-old is now hospitalized and battling kidney failure — a rare and potentially life-threatening complication of E. coli poisoning. Disputes across the country are brewing over the role of local election boards and how much power they have to question – or even throw out – election results. In Georgia, for instance, Trump-backed members of the state election board recently passed controversial rules that could allow local election boards responsible for certifying results to conduct investigations that threaten to delay certification. One of the Georgia rules, the “Reasonable Inquiry Rule,” would allow election officials to conduct a “reasonable inquiry” before certifying election results. The petitioners in the case argue that the rule would give partisan board members a wide ability to cast doubt on, or even reject, election results. Gen Alpha is poised to be the most online generation, with AI and other inevitable advancements in technology and social media. I loved the phone, but using it for a week also made me realize how complicated excessive social media use is to solve.
