Ella Emhoff's DNC look was customEmhoff, an artist, designer, and the internet's beloved "First Daughter of Bushwick," wore a tea-length gown for her DNC appearance. Ando said the dress took over 75 hours to make and that Emhoff crocheted the flower that sat on one sleeve herself. Outside the DNC, Emhoff's presence in the fashion community has been growing in recent years. Emhoff's father, Doug Emhoff, married Harris in 2014, so Harris has been in her life since she was a teen. With her one-of-a-kind look for the convention, Emhoff is likely to sport more fashion-forward looks throughout Harris' campaign.

More than a few still carry the scars, including one 80-year-old woman I recently spoke to about her middle school experience. Instead of facing a mean girl or boy of his own, he wound up with a social media influencer in his class who held sway over the entire grade. “All of these issues with social media are coming to a head right now and there’s wildly insufficient research,” Marc Berkman, CEO of the non-profit Organization for Social Media Safety, told me recently. Middle school is complicated enough without all the extra pressures generated by having a social media influencer sitting next to you. From middle school science class, we know that a fire needs oxygen to burn.

PARIS (AP) — Paris Men’s Fashion Week, ending Sunday, has witnessed a striking dichotomy of styles. Here are some highlights of fall-winter 2024 men's shows:SACAI’S BOLD WARRIOR CHICAs the sun set on Paris Menswear Week, Sacai, Japan’s commercial juggernaut in the fashion world, delivered imaginatively. This season’s Paris Men’s Fashion Week traveled from the elegantly understated to the boldly expressive. In contrast with this muted luxury, Balmain made a striking comeback to men’s fashion with a lineup that screamed opulence. Menswear week showcased the dual nature of men’s luxury fashion, oscillating between the quietly sophisticated and the unapologetically extravagant.

IN NEWS sure to leave biker gangs uncharacteristically tearful, leather pants are threatening to go bougie. Long a bad-boy symbol, hide trousers have been transformed by high fashion this fall. They’re being proposed as a suave, sensual and comfortable alternative to chinos, cargo pants and tailored trousers. Some feature high waists to elongate legs or pleats to conjure old-school élan worthy of Cary Grant. Nick Paget, senior menswear strategist at trend forecasting firm WGSN, attributes the leather look to a post-Covid desire for sensual dressing.

A Fashion Designer Who ‘Chose Crazy’
  + stars: | 2023-09-13 | by ( Alexandra Marshall | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
It was during Paris’s first pandemic lockdown that the fashion designer Marco Ribeiro felt he’d reached a creative inflection point. “I was like, ‘I can go one of two ways,’” he recalls. “ ‘Either very commercial’ — but nobody was buying anything at the time, and nobody knew how long that would last — ‘or very crazy.’ I chose crazy.”In 2019, the now-35-year-old Brazilian, who’d moved to Paris after 11 years in Buenos Aires, where he sold hand-painted bags and clothing, mostly to friends, had launched his first women’s wear line, a collection of tailored, minimalist pieces. But he never really felt like the work reflected him — where he came from, or what he wanted to convey. In place of his previous monotones are color blocking, bold stripes and a clash of florals and plaids.

REUTERS/Sarah MeyssonnierPARIS, July 3 (Reuters) - For her fall show, Dior designer Maria Grazia Chiuri reined in the volumes often associated with haute couture fashion and sent out a line-up of slender dresses and capes in neutral tones and touches of gold and silver. Embellishments were kept to a minimum, and included pearls and flat braids, while metallic threads added texture to jacquard fabrics. The show kicked off the first day of Haute Couture Week in Paris, drawing crowds, photographers and celebrities to the entrance of the Rodin museum. Haute Couture shows run until July 6 in the French capital, and include fashion houses Chanel, Balenciaga and Valentino.

This One-Piece Is the ‘Mom’ Swimsuit of My Dreams
  + stars: | 2023-04-26 | by ( ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +4 min
At my sister’s prompting, I tried a suit from Boden, but the fit was off. Unlike a lot of one-piece swimsuits I’ve worn, I never find myself tugging down the bottom or pulling up the straps. The Tulum suit also kept its elasticity and shape for far longer than my old bathing suits. I’m not the only one who loves The Tulum: I’ve received many compliments from other moms who I imagine admire not just the suit, but my obvious comfort in it. Its popularity is also reflected by the fact that I’ve noticed that The Tulum often sells out during peak swimsuit season.

REUTERS/Gonzalo FuentesPARIS, Jan 24 (Reuters) - Chanel creative director Virginie Viard took a spirited direction for the French fashion house's spring haute couture show, sending models out of hulking, stylized animals crafted from cardboard and wood. They emerged, one at a time, circling the towering statues like ringmasters, in bouncy, cheerleader miniskirts, floral jumpsuits and shimmery tweed jackets. During her bow, Viard drew artist Xavier Veilhan, who designed the set, out from the risers while the audience cheered. The Paris haute couture shows, which include some of the most prestigious names in fashion like Georgio Armani Prive, Jean Paul Gaultier and LVMH-owned (LVMH.PA) Christian Dior, run through Thursday.
