High expectations follow being a high NFL draft pick. For three quarters, the matchup cut against those lofty expectations in some ways — and for the last quarter, it became an instant classic that ended with the defining play, so far, of the 2024 NFL season. By summoning offense that had been missing the first three quarters, Williams and the Chicago Bears rallied from a 12-point deficit to take a 15-12 lead against Washington with 23 seconds left on a short touchdown pass by Williams, followed by a two-point conversion. Commanders wide receiver Noah Brown hauled in the Hail Mary with no time left. Washington won 18-15 to improve to 6-2, while Chicago fell to 4-3 in one of the most improbable ways.

The 16 teams that lost last week look to bounce back with performances that reflect improvement and promise. Rodgers completed 13 of 21 passes for 167 yards, a touchdown and an interception, and the Jets managed just 68 rushing yards. He’s going to be a killer rebounder, monster screener and will consistently establish his position even against some of the stronger NBA players. I’m done doubting Edey, even as an NBA player. As an enormous ballhandler with serious touch and incredible vision as a passer, Topić is clearly an NBA player, even if it doesn’t all translate. Shannon is an elite athlete, but the NBA game requires more nuance, especially if he continues to be an inconsistent shooter. However, I also think he’s more than just a floor spacer on offense in spot-up situations and potentially as an off-ball scorer.
