They’re part of a whimsical trend among people who frequently vacation on the seas. The cruising duck enthusiasts, who at times refer to themselves as “quackers,” have been packing rubber ducks onto ships by the dozens, sometimes hundreds, to hide and leave for other passengers to find. The fad is believed to have begun in 2018, when a 10-year-old girl hid toy ducks for fellow cruisers to find during a family vacation. Her parents created what is considered the original “Cruising Ducks” Facebook page, which has ballooned into a large online community. The Facebook page has attracted nearly 275,000 quackers and has close to 100 posts a day about hiding, finding, decorating and just loving the ducks.

Real talk on a Sunday: “Foodie” is a smug, unpleasant word, a diminutive, patronizing expression that reduces a person’s keen interest in the delicious to a silly fascination with cooking and eating. “Foodie” is condescension wrapped in affectionate disdain, even for those who embrace the identity. We should all experience the freedom to cook whatever we want to cook, however we want to cook it, without judgment. Like, for instance, this roasted salmon with peas and radishes. It profiles as superfancy, exactly the sort of dish you’d expect a foodie to cook on the weekend, with its pretty pinks and greens and oranges and its fragrantly nutty, miso-amped sauce.

Watching “Barbie” so much defined the back half of my 2023. The summer of “Barbie” was one of my happiest, when I felt truly connected to my fellow humans. Watching “Barbie” again and again nudged me out of an isolation I hadn’t even realized I’d imposed. Once Gosling finished his dazzling Oscars performance of “I’m Just Ken,” “Barbie” fever officially ended. But we’ll always have our “Barbie” summer.

Postal Service on Friday rolled out its latest special edition postage stamps, paying homage to a tradition with global roots that has evolved over centuries to become a universal symbol of celebration. But “Across the Spider-Verse” is never dull, nor precious with its characters and comedy.
