Read previewOn Tuesday, Elon Musk's X fulfilled his promise to sue advertisers over their boycotting of the platform. GARM creates frameworks to provide common definitions around areas like hate speech and misinformation; it's voluntary whether advertisers use them. It doesn't rank platforms on these issues, and its role isn't to advise advertisers on where to spend their dollars. US advertisers are also protected by the First Amendment to spend or not spend on whichever media platforms they please. If the X suit moves into the discovery phase, there could be a whole lot more.

Read previewFrom head to toe, quite literally, Donald Trump and his lawyers have attacked New York Attorney General Letitia James. "Donald Trump falsely, knowingly, inflated his net worth by billions of dollars to unjustly enrich himself, his family, and to cheat the system. "Donald Trump may have authored 'The Art of the Deal,' she added, repeating a punchline from her September 2022 announcement that she had sued Trump over his frauds. Likewise, where James had requested five-year bans on Donald Trump, Jr., and Eric Trump, Engoron kept those to two years. Then, in September 2023, James sued Trump, Trump Org, Donald Trump, Jr., Eric Trump, and two executives who have since resigned, CFO Allen Weisselberg and Comptroller Jeffrey McConney.

CNN —With holiday season underway, you may be realizing that you forgot to get your Covid-19 and flu vaccines, and now you’ll be sitting across the table from your elderly relatives. Covid-19 vaccines were updated this year to target one strain of the coronavirus rather than two. “The flu vaccine might have been an adjuvant for the Covid vaccine,” she said. Moss led a recent study that compared neutralizing antibody responses of 53 Israeli health care workers who received their bivalent Covid-19 vaccines separately or with a flu shot. Blood samples from these health care workers were equally able to prevent Covid-19 and flu viruses from infecting cells, whether they got their vaccines together or separately.

In 2019, Henry Kissinger warned that the U.S. and China had entered the “foothills of a cold war,” and the Sino-American relationship has only worsened since. The prospect of a new cold war has induced some historians to reexamine the old one. Nick Bunker’s “In the Shadow of Fear: America and the World in 1950” is one such reexamination. But over the ensuing 10 months, Truman’s attempt to expand on FDR’s domestic legacy fell apart, and the Democratic coalition that had dominated American politics for two decades began to break up as well. Most perplexingly to Mr. Bunker, “American politics descended into strife at a moment when in so many ways the nation had little to fear.”

Editor’s Note: Jon Lewis is a research fellow at the Program on Extremism at George Washington University, where he studies domestic violent extremism. However, the 814-page document devoted less than three pages to making recommendations, and in those, perplexingly failed to offer a meaningful set related to domestic terrorism. There is little question that right-wing extremism, particularly white supremacist extremism, is currently the deadliest and most pervasive domestic terrorism threat facing the United States. Nearly 1 in 4 of these right-wing extremist killings were committed in the name of white supremacist terrorism – a staggering 251 total deaths. We stand at a crossroads in the fight against domestic terrorism.

Trump and NY's attorney general are in a wordy war over his $110K contempt-of-court check from May. "OAG" is short for Office of the Attorney General. The first, a federal lawsuit in Florida that he'd filed in November and dropped on Friday, had sought the dismissal of James' lawsuit. On Thursday night, attorneys for the 16 defendants named in James' lawsuit filed nearly 5,000 pages of response papers. The filings repetitively complain that James' lawsuit errs in repeatedly referring to "the Trump Organization," as her 222 pages do some 300 times.
