The president-elect voiced support for imposing the death penalty on convicted human traffickers and drug dealers, while also saying he would seek to have prosecutors pursue the death penalty for migrants who kill American citizens or anyone who kills a law enforcement officer. It also wants the federal death penalty broadened to include people convicted of sexually abusing children, an application found by the US Supreme Court to be unconstitutional. “We saw what he’s capable of,” Abraham Bonowitz, executive director of the abolitionist Death Penalty Action, said of Trump. The organization does not take a position for or against the death penalty but has been critical of its administration. Federal executions were rare – before TrumpThe federal government and the US military both retain the death penalty, as do 27 states – though executions are paused in six of those states by executive action, according to the Death Penalty Information Center.

A Georgia mother was arrested and accused of allegedly endangering her son — all because the unsupervised 10-year-old walked less than a mile away from home, officials said. "It's not a super dangerous or even dangerous at all stretch of road," Patterson told NBC News, in an interview that aired Wednesday. Patterson refuses to sign this form and said she'll contest this charge that carries up a year behind bars. Patterson's lawyer David DeLugas rhetorically asked if mothers and fathers now have to know the precise location of their children at all times. Against this backdrop, Wolfe Research released a basket of stocks that might be impaired under a Trump presidency. These companies would be at risk either under a 10% universal duty or 60% China tariffs. Beauty and cosmetics manufacturer Estée Lauder , down about 40% this year, could also face repercussions under a Trump win. Analyst Angel Castillo's revised price target of $332, down from $349, is approximately 14% lower than where shares closed on Wednesday. LAS VEGAS — GOP candidate Sam Brown spent Thursday’s Nevada Senate debate taking shots at Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen, as he still faces a polling deficit with Election Day creeping nearer. In contrast, Rosen spent the evening focusing largely on her own track record and roots in Nevada, hoping to stay above the fray and ride her polling lead. “It’s interesting that Senator Rosen would mention a desire to want to fine greedy corporations,” said Brown. And when moderators asked Rosen and Brown if Congress should do an independent investigation into UFOs, Rosen answered the question. Fearing that such rights could be undone in the future, reproductive rights advocates garnered enough signatures this summer to put on the ballot a measure to enshrine abortion rights into their state’s constitution.

CNN —A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with three cases in Birmingham, Alabama, last month, including a mass shooting that left four people dead and 17 others wounded in the city’s lively entertainment district, police announced. “Today was a major step toward justice,” said Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin in a statement following the arrest. Then, within 24 hours of the mass shooting, police say McDaniel was connected to the shooting death of Jamarcus McIntyre, who was found fatally shot on a sidewalk. After the mass shooting, the mayor said gun violence has reached an “epidemic level” in Birmingham. The archive, like CNN, defines a mass shooting as one in which at least four people are shot, excluding the shooter.

Thomas Gnoske, a collections manager at the museum, first spotted thousands of hairs trapped within the lions’ teeth when he examined their skulls in the 1990s. “Our analysis showed that the historic Tsavo lions preyed on giraffe, human, oryx, waterbuck, wildebeest, and zebra, and we also identified hairs that originated from lions. The Tsavo lions were maneless, like this adult male lion. The combined efforts opened a treasure trove of data about the lions’ prey as well as about the predators themselves. “It suggests that the Tsavo lions may have either traveled farther than previously believed, or that wildebeest were present in the Tsavo region during that time,” de Flamingh said.

In 2022, oil flow in the Strait of Hormuz averaged 21 million barrels per day, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Saul Kavonic, senior research analyst at MST Financial, said supply disruptions along the Strait of Hormuz could send oil prices significantly higher. Oil prices traded more than 3% on Monday, extending gains even after notching their sharpest weekly gain since early 2023 last week. "But seeing where the oil price sits right now the market doesn't seem to hold much probability for such a development at all," he added. "A significant disruption to these flows would be enough to push oil prices to new record highs, surpassing the record high of close to $150/bbl in 2008," he added.

CNN —The Supreme Court on Tuesday signaled a willingness to uphold a Biden administration regulation on “ghost guns,” mail-order kits that allow people to build untraceable weapons at home and that are turning up at crime scenes with greater frequency. The difference here, she said, is that the ghost guns are marketed to be built into guns and serve no other conceivable purpose. President Joe Biden’s administration told the court in briefing that police departments have faced an “explosion of crimes involving ghost guns” in recent years. In 2017, police submitted about 1,600 ghost guns recovered at crime scenes for tracing. After that decision, a lower court stepped in to block the regulations as applied to two manufacturers.

He highlighted the four categories of debt-based countries: those with low growth and high or low debt, and those with high growth and high or low debt.
