Brazilian stocks have been on a tear, but stubborn inflation could grind the recent rally to a stop. It's a work in progress, and most likely will require further rate hikes by the central bank." BCA Research's Arthur Budaghyan agreed that the Brazilian central bank is unlikely to hike rates for very long. Against this backdrop, Budaghyan advises clients steer clear of Brazilian stocks in the near term. After having my son nearly three years ago, I struggled with an almost debilitating embarrassment about my performance as a mother. His birth unleashed a sense that I somehow wasn't good enough, so I would have to overcompensate to be a good parent. I didn't know what to do, so I made an excuse and took my son somewhere else to play. That's why I went back to therapy two years ago when my son was 1. While many parents may feel shame in certain situations, I'm glad I sought out support, as I can now go anywhere with my son.

I mean, he was direct, too, and people figured out how to handle him. I heard it again in corporate meeting rooms and during training sessions from colleagues, direct reports, and future managers. I didn't want to lose that strength by hiding it, so I eventually learned to develop situational savviness. For instance, I can identify that my directness allows me to tackle hard challenges that many people shy away from. AdvertisementLuckily, I am now able to identify when I can fully embrace my directness and when I should tone it down.

As a single mom, I didn't want my son to feel different from the other kids who lived with both of their parents or had siblings. In order to make sure my son was getting what I thought he needed, I set the parenting bar way too high for myself. I had never planned on being a single mom, and it took me a long time to accept my role. Related storiesI thought things would be easier with a partner, and for a little while, I wanted more children. The Russian official said any NATO forces in Ukraine would be considered part of the "regular forces" fighting against Moscow. Key to that rhetoric has been Russia amplifying the idea that NATO may escalate tensions by sending troops to Ukraine. Brin, 50, spoke to entrepreneurs on Saturday at the "AGI House" in Hillsborough, California, just south of San Francisco, where developers and founders were testing Google's Gemini model. He also commented on the flawed launch last month of Google's image generator, which the company pulled after users discovered historical inaccuracies and questionable responses. Brin was also asked how online advertising will be disrupted considering ad revenue is core to Google's business. Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty Images“I of all people am not too terribly concerned about business model shifts,” Brin said. Brad has been the primary breadwinner throughout most of their marriage, but his income varies month to month. Sandra didn't contribute much income-wise to the couple's finances until a little over a year ago, she told Sethi. Brad feels like he does all he can to achieve their goals, but will never meet the high standard she sets, he told Sethi. "Most people genuinely believe that this process of tracking every last cent puts them in control of their money," Sethi said. "The identity you have created for yourself around money might not be fully accurate with reality," Sethi told her.

Just two months after Google launched Gemini, its flashy new AI model, the company revealed that it had already built a better version. AdvertisementThen, days later, Google scrambled to explain why its image generation tool spit out racially inaccurate depictions of historical figures. Users have long bemoaned — and researchers recently found — a decline in the quality of Google Search results. The fact that Google is not far and away the self-driving-car leader, it's, like, a total joke," the former Google director said, adding that the problem of Google's lost supremacy is "maybe impossible to solve, frankly." Google now is reminiscent of the Steve Ballmer-era Microsoft, which missed the smartphone, search, and cloud waves and was overtaken by Apple, Google, and Amazon.

Read previewGoogle spent much of last week getting hammered for supposedly creating a "woke" AI chatbot and eventually apologized for "missing the mark." AdvertisementBut it's also going to be a problem for Google because it has already said it is trying to influence the way its AI produces results. And that's going to be red meat for anyone who wants to argue that Google — or any other Big Tech company — is "too woke." Last week, after getting similar criticism about the way Gemini handled race when it came to AI-generated images, Google "paused" Gemini's ability to create images. Pulling Gemini altogether would be a considerable black eye for the company, and one I think it will be incredibly reluctant to do.

The science behind sleeping more in winter

“If you feel like sleeping more in the winter, you’re not alone,” said Dr. Raj Dasgupta, an associate professor of clinical medicine at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, California, citing research that found at least a third of American adults reported they sleep more in the winter. But participants did get 30 more minutes of rapid eye movement, or REM, sleep during winter. Here’s what experts think you should know about the science and whether you should make any adjustments. “But we can make adjustments to perform in a better way, to rest in a better way during winter,” she said. “To help our bodies make this transition from sleep to wake, it’s important to have light exposure in the morning during winter months,” Weiss said.

Mark Cuban is no fan of jargon — and the billionaire is far from alone. But using jargon words when you could opt for something simple and clear instead, typically has the opposite effect, according to Cuban. "Always use the simpler word," Cuban told Wired in an October video Q&A. "There's no reason to ever use the word 'cohort' when you could use the word 'group,'" he said. You sound stupid when you use the word 'cohort,' because you're trying to sound smart."

[Loud laborers] ... may crave attention and love to hear themselves talk even when it was nothing extraordinary, they were simply doing their jobs. "Loud laborers are often quite politically savvy and are very active on professional social networks, where they publicize their tasks and achievements," she added. Why some focus on 'visibility'Why do loud laborers exist? What you can do about loud laborersWhile loud laborers in the workplace may be irksome, it is important to set boundaries as best you can, said Salemi. For Price, loud working is persistent in a workplace because such behavior has been rewarded or validated by leadership.

"Early on in my career, I wanted to prove how smart I was and so I did a lot more talking than listening," Cuban said. At the time, Cuban says he was sleeping on the floor of a three-bedroom apartment with six roommates in Dallas. The desire to prove himself sometimes led Cuban to be "too cocky," he says, which could rub people the wrong way. The cable services company wanted to move Cuban's company HDNet, a high-definition TV provider, to a higher price tier. Cuban didn't like the deal and consequently sued DirecTV.

That same day, Broadbery achieved a different, but equally momentous, milestone in his Wall Street career. He's seen support for traditionally underrepresented groups, like the LGBTQ+ community, become institutionalized at most Wall Street firms — a welcome improvement. There's also much less stigma now around being "too gay" for Wall Street, he added. So it's like, how gay is too gay for Wall Street?" "I think Wall Street is Wall Street and in the finance industry there are certain norms and certain things you need to do to conform — the working environment, the working hours, the hierarchy, the path to promotion — those things are what they are," he said.

UPenn professor Ethan Mollick compares AI to an "intern" who "lies a little bit," CBS reports. Like interns, AI tools require guidance for their outputs to be useful, according to Mollick. Similar to interns who may overcompensate to get ahead of the curve, Mollick compares AI to an "infinite intern" who "lies a little bit" and, at times, wants to make their bosses "a little happy." But like interns, AI requires guidance for its outputs to be useful. Mollick's thoughts on AI come as generative AI tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT take the world by storm.

High-functioning depression is a colloquial term and not a technical clinical diagnosis, explains Rheeda Walker, Ph.D., psychologist and leading researcher on suicide in the Black community. Persistent depressive disorder is another official diagnosis that, for some patients, may include high-functioning depression, Walker says. But she also stresses that because high-functioning depression is not a technical diagnosis, she’s hesitant to say they’re the same. But a 2021 study indicates the Black suicide rate is likely higher than documented because the manner of death is often misclassified. If you’re concerned about a loved one attempting suicide, Walker notes that anxiety is “as strong a predictor” as depression.
As a woman in South Asian culture, I was taught that I wasn't supposed to be good with money. In fact, I can recall several conversations with aunties in our community advocating that we younger South Asian girls just "marry a rich Indian boy, from a good family." When it comes to South Asian women's relationship with money and their ability to attain financial agency, it's important to understand cultural context. "It became standard to try and pick up the bill, even when I knew I couldn't afford to, because this was something I'd seen up front and center in South Asian culture. Cultural expectations and narratives play a huge role in our ability as South Asian women to make different decisions, especially when it comes to our money and building wealth.

“For working Americans who already feel the crush of inflation, job losses will make it much worse. The comments from the Ohio Democrat, who publicly supported Powell’s renomination as Fed chair, underscore the intense pressure facing the Fed ahead of next week’s decision on interest rates. Bank of America estimates the US economy will start losing 175,000 jobs a month early next year due to the Fed’s rapid interest rate hikes. California Rep. Ro Khanna slammed the central bank for “failed policy” that led to high inflation and expressed concern the Fed will now overcompensate. Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren has described the Fed’s rate hikes as “extreme” and set the stage for blaming the central bank for a downturn.
