Robert Pattinson is re-teaming with his “Tenet” director Christopher Nolan for the filmmaker’s closely guarded project at Universal Pictures, Variety has confirmed. Pattinson joins an impressive ensemble that already includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway and Zendaya. Universal and Nolan’s follow-up to their Oscar-winning drama “Oppenheimer” is projecting a production start date sometime in the first half of 2025. Warner Bros. is looking to film a sequel to his 2022 blockbuster “The Batman,” in which the actor would reprise his leading turn as the DC Comics superhero. Universal has set a July 17, 2026 release date for the project, which will release in theaters and Imax.

But artist Maurizio Cattelan’s viral creation, titled “Comedian,” has proven a sound investment for one collector: One of the artwork’s three “editions” smashed estimates to sell for $6.24 million at a Sotheby’s auction in New York on Wednesday. The auction house had estimated the work to go for between $1 million to $1.5 million; bidding began at $800,000. Prior to the sale, Sotheby’s confirmed to CNN that neither the tape nor, thankfully, the banana are the originals. The Miami installation was eventually removed amid public safety concerns, but all three editions were sold at the fair. In interviews given since the Miami installation, Cattelan has described “Comedian” as a work of commentary.

CNN —Record-breaking ocean temperatures, fueled by planet-warming pollution, have turbocharged dozens of Atlantic hurricanes over the last few years, making them more potent and dangerous by increasing their wind speeds. Every hurricane in the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season was made stronger than it otherwise would have been without human-caused climate change, according to analysis from nonprofit climate research group Climate Central. Wind speeds of the 11 hurricanes were increased by 9 to 28 mph by water that was up to 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit warmer because of climate change. Nine of this season’s 11 hurricanes rapidly intensified and climbed up the hurricane category scale due to climate change-driven ocean heat. Climate Central researchers also found that human-caused climate change made exceptionally warm ocean temperatures that fueled Milton’s explosion 400 to 800 times more likely.

“Gladiator II” is set to release next week, bringing audiences the glory and gore of the Roman Empire: swords will be unsheathed, heroes will rise —and in this blockbuster sequel — perhaps share a kiss? Actor Denzel Washington told Gayety that he had a kiss in the movie, but it was ultimately cut from the final print. “I actually kissed the man in the film, but they took it, they cut it, I think they got chicken,” Washington, who plays a Roman businessman in the film, said in a video interview. “It’s ‘Gladiator.’ It’s the kiss of death.”It appears that it wasn’t the only kiss that was cut from the Ridley Scott-directed film. “Gladiator II” is a sequel to the 2000 historical epic featuring a cast that includes Mescal, Pascal and Washington.

Burry, who now manages hedge fund Scion Asset Management, boosted his stakes in a few Chinese internet companies' ADRs, according to a regulatory filing. The trader added to his Alibaba bet by 29% to a stake worth more than $21 million, making it his largest position at the end of September. The widely followed investor also doubled his stake in JD.com , pushing it to become Scion's second-biggest holding, worth $20 million. Burry also increased his stake in Chinese search engine Baidu by 67% to a bet worth $13.2 million at the end of the third quarter. Burry was depicted in Michael Lewis' book " The Big Short " and the subsequent Oscar-winning movie of the same name.

CNN —Nicole Kidman has worked with some amazing directors, but there’s one she has not. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the Oscar-winning actress was asked about her AFI Lifetime Achievement Award’s speech in which she listed some of the filmmakers she’s worked with. “Is there anyone you have your eye on who you haven’t worked with and want to?” Kidman was asked in her interview. “I’ve always said I want to work with [Martin] Scorsese, if he does a film with women,” Kidman said. Kidman rounded her list out in the interview by mentioning her desire to work with directors Kathryn Bigelow, Spike Jonze, Paul Thomas Anderson and Michael Haneke.
