A 37-year-old Irish man was arrested in connection with the murder of an American woman vacationing in Budapest, local police said. The man was taken into custody earlier this week at his rented apartment, Budapest Police Headquarters said Saturday in a translated post on Facebook. The suspect allegedly tried to cover up the murder, Budapest police said. He allegedly cleaned the apartment, put Michalski's body in a suitcase, and dumped the luggage in a wooded area near Lake Balaton. The man allegedly told investigators that Michalski’s death was an accident, police said in the Facebook post.

Some Americans move to Canada in search of less polarized politics and reduced risk of gun violence. Related storiesTwo Americans who recently moved to Canada told BI they did so to escape polarized and divisive politics, escape inadequate healthcare, and feel safer in their communities. A lot of the characteristics Ouellet was looking for in New Zealand, he said, he found in British Columbia. "In British Columbia, the regulations for being able to own a gun are extremely tight," he said. Ouellet said he had no regrets about moving to British Columbia, but Canada's housing crisis have so far sidelined his dreams of homeownership.

I didn't have a car, and doing work exchanges kept my fixed costs a fraction of what I spent in the US. My mindset was also different: I didn't feel the need to spend money to have fun like I do at home. But the mindset I had while living abroad is what really helped me save: I didn't feel the need to spend money to enjoy myself. I spent one summer living in New York City thanks to a work exchange I found on that same website. The traveler's mindset I had while living abroad encouraged me to explore, get creative, and find fun in the simplest activities.

The Northeast is the ancestral home of footwear manufacturing in the US, where New Balance still assembles more than 4 million pairs of sneakers each year. But that could soon change with a plan for a $125 million development campus called Made in Old Town. Dozens of boats zipped across Casco Bay during the Maine Lobster Boat Races on Saturday. That boat, a 32-footer with a powerful diesel engine, belonged to Jeremy Beal, 45, a large, soft-spoken man who comes from a long line of boat builders and lobstermen. “See, I grew up right in it,” he said between drags of a cigarette while leaning against the rail of his boat on the evening before the big race. For decades, Mr. Beal’s father, Wayne Beal, and an uncle, Calvin Beal, have built boats used by commercial fishers up and down the Maine coast. Then on Jan. 5, about six minutes and 16,000 feet into a packed flight out of Portland, Oregon, a door plug blew out of a nearly new Boeing 737 Max 9. The Federal Aviation Administration barred Boeing from increasing output of its Max planes and stepped up hands-on inspections at production plants. The 737 was dubbed "Baby Boeing" and went on to become the company's bestseller, helping to make Boeing the largest U.S. exporter. Pilots in those Boeing planes fought against a flight-control system, the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, that pushed the nose of the planes downward repeatedly. Boeing has said it aims to increase rates to about 50 Max planes a month in the next few years.

Three people were injured Saturday night in central Oregon after a large bull jumped over a barrier and into the crowd at a packed rodeo event, sending onlookers scrambling for safety before the animal could be captured, the authorities said. The incident occurred during the final portion of the bull-riding event at the 84th annual Sisters Rodeo in Sisters, Ore., more than 150 miles southeast of Portland, the rodeo said in a statement. Video of the frantic episode circulating on social media shows a packed crowd under the arena lights, swaying and singing along to Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.,” when a large brown bull circles the bull ring and leaps over a metal gate and into the stands. Other footage shows the bull charging through an area designated for concessions and flipping a person through the air. When the bull first jumps the fence, a rodeo announcer can be heard giving instructions for an emergency response plan, repeatedly asking the crowd to take cover.

When Oregon embarked on a landmark plan three years ago to decriminalize hard drugs, it wagered that a focus on treatment over punishment would create a new model for drug policy around the country. But after a deluge of overdose deaths and frequent chaos in the streets of Portland, Gov. Tina Kotek signed into law on Monday a measure to restore criminal penalties for drug possession. The rollback has supporters among a wide range of public officials, including Mayor Ted Wheeler of Portland, who found himself presiding over a series of crises since taking office in 2016. He has battled in court to ban daytime camping and tried to establish mass shelter locations (known in Portland as TASS sites) for those without housing.

It's been three weeks since a cyberattack on an under-the-radar but critical technology company caused the payments that flow between healthcare providers and insurers to grind to a halt nationwide. The US healthcare system has been crippled by the cyberattack on Change Healthcare, the company owned by UnitedHealth Group that connects healthcare providers and pharmacies to insurers and facilitates 15 billion transactions each year. And some patients can't afford their prescriptions because pharmacies can't process drug coupons. For many healthcare providers, UnitedHealth and the federal government's response to the ongoing crisis has fallen short. More than two weeks after a cyberattack, financially strapped doctors, hospitals and medical providers on Friday sharply criticized UnitedHealth Group’s latest estimate that it would take weeks longer to fully restore a digital network that funnels hundreds of millions of dollars in insurance payments every day. UnitedHealth said that it would be at least two weeks more to test and establish a steady flow of payments for bills that have mounted since hackers effectively shut down Change Healthcare, the nation’s largest billing and payment clearinghouse, on Feb. 21. But desperate providers that have been borrowing money to cover expenses and employee payrolls expressed skepticism at that estimate, worrying that it could be months before the logjam of claims and payments cleared up. “We have nearly a three-week gap in cash flow,” said Brad Larsen, a psychologist and founder of Portland Mental Health & Wellness in Oregon, adding that the group had received only about 10 percent of its expected insurance payments. He said the practice had to borrow $300,000 to meet its first of two payrolls for the month.
