Two people are dead and one is injured after a Civil Air Patrol plane crashed in Colorado on Saturday, Gov. Officials have positively identified the remains of a girl whose body was found hidden in brush under a plastic tarp in 1973, Pennsylvania authorities said this week. The 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz and Hyundai Tucson vehicles subject to the recall have transmissions that can shift out of “park” without the brake pedal having to be applied, increasing the risk of a crash or an injury, per the administration. An Idaho teenager has been arrested over a month after a dead baby was found in the Safe Haven Baby Box at the Grove Creek Medical Center in Blackfoot, police said. The newborn baby girl was removed from the box at the medical center “within a minute” after a medical team responded to an alarm notifying them that an infant had been placed there on Oct. 13. But it was discovered that the newborn had been dead long before she was placed in the baby box, according to a news release from Safe Haven Baby Boxes published last month. "The Safe Haven Baby Box is intended to safely and anonymously allow custodial parents to surrender a newborn under 30 days old without legal repercussions, provided the child is unharmed," the Blackfoot Police Department said in a news release Friday. "Unfortunately, the placement of a harmed or deceased infant is not protected under this system or Idaho law."

☆ Israel announces that West Bank settlers no longer face detention without trial

Israel’s new defense minister has said security forces would no longer apply administrative detention orders to Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank, and thus only Palestinian suspects can be held indefinitely without trial. Israel Katz, a long-time ally of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was appointed defense minister earlier in November and announced the decision on Friday. In 2019, Trump abandoned the long-held U.S. position that West Bank settlements are illegal before it was restored by President Joe Biden. Settler immunity from administrative detention coincides with heightened rhetoric from Israeli ministers calling for the West Bank to be annexed. The U.N. said four Palestinian children have been killed every week in the West Bank on average since the current conflict began, a three-fold increase from the first nine months of 2023.

President-elect Donald Trump on Friday announced his picks for critical remaining public health roles in his incoming administration. Trump picked Dr. Janette Nesheiwat for the post. Nesheiwat is a family practice doctor and Fox News medical contributor who is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Trump chose Dr. Dave Weldon, a former congressman from Florida, for this post. “As a physician, Dr. Weldon became involved with many health care policy issues, including efforts to ban human cloning and vaccine safety,” the campaign website notes.
