Model Bella Hadid issued a statement after starring in a controversial Adidas campaign that the sportswear company said had an "unintentional" connection to a bloody terrorist attack. The ad campaign for Adidas' new retro trainers, called the SL72s, was a nod to the 1972 Munich Olympics. Released earlier in July, the advertisement featured Hadid holding a bouquet of flowers while wearing the shoes, which originally debuted in 1972 for the Munich Olympics. Hadid said she was not aware of the connection to the historical events of the 1972 Munich Olympics, and that she would not have taken part in the campaign had she known. "Adidas should have known and I should have done more research so that I too would have known and understood, and spoken up."

London/Rome CNN —Italy’s competition authority is investigating whether Armani and Dior have misled consumers about their production processes, following reports that local companies in their supply chains pay workers too little and force them to work long hours. The firms are being investigated for possible “unlawful” conduct in the marketing and sale of clothes and accessories, in violation of Italy’s Consumer Code, it noted. Many mainstream fashion brands have long faced allegations of exploitative working conditions in their supply chains. The probe comes after Milan prosecutors accused several Chinese-owned firms in Italy, producing luxury goods for Dior and Armani, of systematically abusing their employees, Reuters reported. Armani has denied the allegations levied by the competition authority, but said it would cooperate with the latest investigation.

Prosectors said these companies exploited workers to pump out bags for a small fraction of their store price. According to documents examined by authorities, Dior paid a supplier $57 to produce bags that retail for about $2,780, Reuters reported last month. Court documents showed that Dior, a subsidiary of LVMH, submitted a memo highlighting its supply chain improvements, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. Advertisement"It's not something sporadic that concerns single production lots, but a generalized and consolidated manufacturing method," said court documents seen by Reuters about the decision to place Dior under administration. "The main problem is obviously people being mistreated: applying labour laws, so health and safety, hours, pay," Milan Court President Fabio Roia told Reuters earlier this year.

Why is pop culture so obsessed with nuns?
  + stars: | 2024-04-12 | by ( Leah Dolan | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +5 min
These vestal get-ups are, in fact, the latest in a long line of subversive pop culture interpretations of the lives (and loves) of nuns. More recently, Bella Hadid walked the Coperni Fall-Winter 2022 runway wearing headgear reminiscent of a nun’s habit. The “Nunsploitation” subgenre saw the transformation of nuns from icons of piety and sacrifice into harbingers of evil and sexual obsession. In lighter fare, “Sister Act 3,” a third movie in the beloved “Sister Act” series of the 1990s starring Whoopi Goldberg is currently in development. “The juxtaposition of the nun’s habit with either blatant sexuality or the cultivation of personal identity and style is shocking and grabs people’s attention,” wrote Dr. Neal.

Ms. Qualley has the Grammys, with her musician-husband Jack Antonoff, looming on her calendar next month. Still, even off the red carpet, couture is having something of a movie moment. Both series focus on the idea of the couture as a riposte to the horrors and deprivation of the war; a clarion call of humanity. Given what is going on in the world, you can understand why filmmakers — and the designers who love them — might think it was a good time to revisit this particular period. In any case, it’s all starting to seem a lot like life imitating art imitating life.

Marketing is driving culture as promotional campaigns overshadow the offerings they seek to elevate — in fashion, music, art and film. With fashion weeks taking place around the world and awards season well underway, the hype machine is operating at full throttle. Fashion houses seemingly no longer hire creative directors for their design skills or aesthetic vision but for their marketing prowess. For Louis Vuitton, however, the show was an unqualified success: The star-studded spectacle attracted over a billion online views. But now the hype often precedes and overwhelms the product, to the point that the product seems almost irrelevant to its own success.

PARIS (AP) — Dior's menswear maestro Kim Jones transformed a sunny afternoon in Paris into a starlit evening of balletic grandeur at Paris Fashion Week, in a display of fashion theatrics. Inspired by the legendary ballet icons Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, Jones delivered an exuberant spectacle at the Ecole Militaire annex on Friday. CNN —The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute has revealed details of its 2024 spring exhibition, which serves as the inspiration for the theme of the accompanying Met Gala. “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” will be presented at the Costume Institute in New York from May 10 through September 2, 2024, pulling rare “masterworks” from the Institute’s archive for museumgoers to experience in a new, imaginative way, according to a press release. His death was confirmed in a statement by Dior. I have always in mind the reaction of women I know.”Courtly, taciturn and immaculately dapper even by the standards of midcentury Paris, Mr. Bohan was 34 when he was appointed head couturier for the House of Dior in 1960, taking over for the maverick Yves Saint Laurent. LVMH’s smooth ride faces twin speed bumps

Shares in the 413 billion euro luxury behemoth fell 4% on Wednesday after it failed to wow investors with its earnings, depressing Europe’s stock market. Yet investors balked at the 1% second quarter sales contraction in the United States - which represents about a quarter of total revenue - as inflation worries cooled shoppers’ appetite for expensive items. LVMH’s conglomerate model, which spans over 70 brands, has so far proven resilient to crises. The all-important Mainland China market, which made up a fifth of global personal luxury sales in 2021, is a potential worry. Slow demand both in the U.S. and China would test LVMH’s diversified model.

Permission for the highly-engineered moment was granted after a lengthy approval process involving the International Tennis Federation, Association of Tennis Professionals and Wimbledon. As Sinner told Women’s Wear Daily, “(This bag) will create a conversation.”

YOUR DAD most likely wore the same model of underwear every day, be it tighty-whities or billowy boxers. One style, one brand, quite possibly even one color, day after day. But what if you wanted to experiment with underwear that’s not so obviously “your type”? Thanks to an influx of innovative startups in the past decade, there has never been as much scope for underwear infidelity. On the 2022 catwalks of Dior and Louis Vuitton, among others, the waistbands of silky boxers peeked above models’ trousers.
