CNN —The Cleveland Cavaliers became just the eighth team in NBA history to start a season 12-0 after earning a hard fought 119-113 win over the Chicago Bulls on Monday night. The Bulls managed to tie the scores at 106-106, but Cleveland outscored its opponent down the stretch to cement its place in an exclusive NBA group. It’s the best start to an NBA season since the record-breaking 2015-16 Golden State Warriors, who set league records with a 24-0 start and a 73-9 campaign. Five of the last seven teams to start the season 12-0 have gone on to reach the NBA Finals, according to ESPN. The Cavaliers’ 9-0 start to the season was already the best in franchise history.

A gunman killed at least six people and wounded six others on Monday morning at a home for older and infirm people in Croatia, the country’s police chief told reporters Monday afternoon. He said that the attacker had used a handgun and that a suspect was quickly arrested at a restaurant nearby. Five residents and one employee were killed, the police chief, Nikola Milina, said. Andrej Plenkovic, Croatia’s prime minister, wrote on X that he was “appalled” by the killings. To figure out when our ancient human ancestors hooked up with Neanderthals, the researchers compared stretches of Neanderthal DNA in their genomes. For example, the researchers found both current and ancient humans have Neanderthal genes that affect metabolism, immunity, and skin pigmentation. They speculate that these characteristics may have benefited ancient humans who inherited them and then kept passing them on.
