AdvertisementTogether, the claims describe a US prison medical culture defined by a gross disregard for human life. In dozens of cases in BI's sample, incarcerated people said they were denied emergency medical treatment by corrections officers or medical staff despite obvious medical distress. But according to his complaint and internal grievance files, the prison medical staff denied Kirk's request to be seen at a hospital. In at least a dozen cases BI examined, outside medical authorities, such as hospital doctors, testified that the medical treatment prisoners received was substandard. As Mann's abdominal pain continued over the next two years, according to medical records, prison medical staff ordered X-rays and lab work but did not conduct a thorough oncological screening.

Those two events are the kind of thing that, in normal times, are tracked mostly by economists and Wall Street types. For former President Donald Trump and the Republicans, the narrative is simple: Anything bad you’re feeling about inflation or the job market? Harris entered the race trailing Trump on a range of issues, including the economy. If that were the whole story, Trump might have a harder time disparaging Harris’ and President Joe Biden’s economic record. If the data doesn’t behave, however, then jobs — not inflation — may become the key economic narrative that Harris and Trump will start talking about in their stump speeches.

Called the "Siren Craft System," it overhauls the workflow at some 10,000 of its coffeehouses in an effort to reduce inefficiency, speed up orders, and boost customer satisfaction. Every fast-food outlet, Starbucks cafés included, is a little factory. The new system instructs baristas to push cold drinks down in the queue in favor of hot ones. But the fact is, the cold drinks also take longer to make. The higher-grossing cold drinks take so long to make, in fact, that they're actually pretty low-margin.

Around the dinner table in the early 2000s, David Katzman would quiz his kids about their dream startups. ModelFit employees told BI that Gelband used the Pelvicore Pro only with the permission of its creator, the physical therapist Christina Christie. Once, in October 2018, David Katzman met with Facebook's ad team to discuss SDC's before-and-after advertisements, which violated the tech company's policies. SDC employees worked on Pvolve marketing campaigns, and Pvolve employees took trips on David Katzman's jet. "He didn't come from anything, and he spent years and years building up the business," the person close to Pasterino told BI.

One by one, each country with the money and the drive to compete started its own nuclear weapons program. Even with this kind of evidence in hand, science has reached only limited conclusions about how nuclear weapons testing affects individuals’ health. They helped create the 2021 Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, signed by 93 countries, which bans the possession, use and testing of nuclear weapons. France has acknowledged its “debt” to Polynesians over nuclear testing, and it created a commission in 2010 to evaluate nuclear testing victim compensation claims, but it has never apologized. We are still wrestling with the damage wrought by testing nuclear weapons in our past.

Meet the hobbyists who collect barf bags

CNN —“I collect barf bags” is not a complete sentence. “I collect barf bags because they’re pretty neat.”“I collect barf bags, and I’m not the only one.”Of the eight billion people on the planet, the number of serious barf bag collectors is just north of 100, according to notable members of their ranks. The ineffable whyWhen Steve Silberburg started collecting barf bags around 1981, he thought he would be the only one. People were indeed amused, but it had an unintended side effect: Classmates started bringing Silberburg other barf bags to add to his collection. “We don’t want anybody to get ahead of us, you know.”“It makes a good litmus test, telling people you collect barf bags,” Silberburg says.

After I couldn’t keep up with my partner on a snorkeling adventure, he pulled me from the water. Later that day came intense fever, alternating with shaking chills. The physician assistant who saw me was perplexed; she gave me IV fluids and medication for nausea and sent me home. My brain was foggy, and my balance was so impaired that I would have failed a sobriety test. But as my head began to clear, it occurred to me to request a dengue fever test.

An auction house in Dallas that is usually stocked with fine art and rare baseball cards now holds a six-foot dog mascot suit last seen in Episode 1 of the HBO drama “Succession.” Audiences may recall a nauseated Cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun) putting on the costume and puking through its eyeballs. The item has been thoroughly cleansed of prop vomit, according to auction staff members, and is now among 236 lots of memorabilia from the show that are up for bidding on the Heritage Auctions website through Saturday. “Even the eyeholes are mostly clean,” said Robert Wilonsky, a spokesman for the auction house.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Thursday said he thinks the upcoming earnings season might be tough thanks to continued inflation, as well as new weight loss drugs seeding fear for investors in the food and beverage sector. Cramer said the market is facing an "unforgiving backdrop" that may cause many on Wall Street to interpret earnings negatively. He also also highlighted PepsiCo , one of the first big companies to report earnings this season. Cramer also said many might see PepsiCo's price-to-earnings multiple as too high, trading at more than 20 times earnings. However, Cramer said investors should still be wary of being too negative.

Is it just me, or did Kevin McCarthy look a little rough around the edges on Tuesday when announcing his decision to open an impeachment investigation into President Biden? I realize that Mr. McCarthy, the House speaker, needed to convey a dignified solemnity on such an occasion. But in his brief appearance, Mr. McCarthy came across not so much as serious and statesmanlike but as if the words were being dragged from his lips. That it has finally sunk in that he has become the not-so-glorified puppet of the House Republican conference’s radicals, folks like Dan Bishop, Chip Roy and, most prominently, Matt Gaetz. Mr. McCarthy may wield the gavel.

Emily Wright, 38, a teacher in Toronto, started taking Ozempic in 2018. The diabetes drug Ozempic, and its sister drug for weight loss, Wegovy, utilize the same medication, semaglutide. Gastroparesis can have many causes, including diabetes, which is a reason many people are on these drugs in the first place. In more than half of cases of gastroparesis, doctors are unable to find a cause. Until more is known, George said, people need to be open with all their doctors about taking any drugs.

After a down day for his "Magnificent Seven" stocks, CNBC's Jim Cramer picked winners outside the tech sphere. "But if you owned a diversified portfolio, including beaten-down stocks for 2023, stocks that represent great value now, you crushed it." Cramer saw winners on Thursday in the health-care sector, specifically Johnson & Johnson and Abbott Labs . He also advised that investors look into the utilities sector, including Sempra , PG&E and American Electric Power , along with transports, especially railroad company Canadian Pacific Kansas City . Cramer conceded he's not sure this broadening market move has staying power, wondering if tech will return to its top slot next week.

In “The Bride and the Goodnight Cinderella” (“A Noiva e o Boa Noite Cinderela”), her new stage production at the Avignon Festival in France, she doesn’t merely open up about that experience. She relives part of it, night after night. This all-too-real performance single-handedly jolted Avignon alive over the first week of the festival, turning Bianchi — an unknown, Amsterdam-based artist — into a sensation at the event. It’s the standard advice for any doctor who sets out to write, speak or advocate on behalf of her patients. It is why, as an abortion provider in California, a state where abortion remains legal (for now), I collect and publish stories about my work — stories that, for whatever reason, stick with me. “I’m OK,” she said, her hands clutching the sides of the exam table. Half an hour later, I saw her in the subway on my way home, chin in her hand, staring out the window. I imagined her children waiting in the schoolyard, their eager hands thrusting into hers, their innocent questions and needs and demands.

Eleven months later, after M.R.I.s and surgery, I was in full remission. I never lost my hair, got nauseated, got burns on my skin, lost my sense of touch or poisoned other organs.

“I just don’t remember anything after that,” Maroulis tells CNN Sport about her admission, adding that she was released a few days later. And then when I got the concussions, it felt like a lot of that flooded back,” she says. “My relationship with wrestling felt so damaged and broken,” she adds. Sarah Stier/Getty ImagesMore support needs to be given to young athletes experiencing concussion, Maroulis believes, particularly when some might delay seeking support for fear of seeming weak. Pushing through because you don’t want them to think you’re weak is the worst thing you can do,” Maroulis says.
A CIA doctor dispatched to investigate the so-called Havana syndrome opened up about his own illness. The anonymous doctor told CNN he started experiencing symptoms of the syndrome himself while in Cuba. Andrews was awakened by a sudden loud noiseAndrews told CNN that he was in "disbelief" when he started experiencing the symptoms himself. The so-called Havana syndrome has come under intense scrutiny in recent years, as more and more US cases have been reported.
