CNN —Matthew McConaughey is a native of Texas, but that’s not the only reason he and his family now reside there. During a recent appearance on the “Good Trouble” podcast, the Oscar-winning actor spoke with tennis pro Nick Kyrgios about his life and career. One thing he learned, McConaughey said, was the importance of saying no. Hollywood said no, no, no, no, you should stay there, stay there.”The “Magic Mike” star said “since I couldn’t do what I wanted to do, I stopped doing what I was doing.”“I moved down to the ranch in Texas,” McConaughey said. It paid off for McConaughey, who went on to nab more serious roles like his work in “Dallas Buyers Club” for which he won a best actor Academy Award in 2014.

Unlike Trump’s surprise win in 2016, House and Senate GOP leaders have been preparing for months for a possible GOP sweep. With Republicans winning control of the Senate, delivering on Trump’s agenda will come down to whether the GOP retains a majority in the House. Even with unified GOP control, there would be challenges ahead for Republicans. One issue is the political math: House Republicans believe if they do hold onto the majority, it won’t be by much. But it wouldn’t be easy to clear a huge package through a narrowly divided House even if Republicans control all the levers of power.

But Donald Trump’s threats are not ordinary, either. He has imprecisely but repeatedly invoked the government’s licensing of broadcast TV airwaves and has said on at least 15 occasions that certain licenses should be revoked. Trump’s threats against CBS have been particularly intense in recent weeks. The threat from any politician to revoke a broadcast license simply because they disagree with the station’s content undermines this basic freedom.”Many of Trump’s threats conflate national networks and local stations. As president, Trump also said that TV licenses “must be challenged and, if appropriate, revoked,” but nothing came of it.

By Zack Rosenblatt, Mike DeFabo and Lauren MerolaPittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson posted a strong stat line Sunday against the New York Jets at Acrisure Stadium, in part thanks to star wide receiver George Pickens. Russell Wilson passes first testWhen Tomlin pivoted, sitting Fields in favor for a healthy Wilson, the decision was sure to have a microscope on it. Wilson found his rhythm as the game went on, showing great chemistry with George Pickens. Wilson and the Steelers capitalized on the miscue, when the QB hit Pickens for a touchdown to cap a four-play, 54-yard drive. That set the stage for Wilson to sneak the ball in, giving the Steelers an eight-point lead.

It should put a damper on just how much we should expect the next president to accomplish, especially if the divide is between the House and the White House. There’s a big difference in just how divided government becomes, depending on whether the House and the White House are controlled by the same party or different parties. Two words send chills down the spine of any presidents who find the “other” party in control of the House: subpoena power. Both Trump and Joe Biden saw the second halves of their terms (after they lost control of the House) essentially paralyzed by an oppositional House. First, because California House races will determine overall House control, it could take as much as two or three weeks before we know the makeup of Congress in 2025 for sure.

This report is from this week's CNBC's "Inside India" newsletter which brings you timely, insightful news and market commentary on the emerging powerhouse and the big businesses behind its meteoric rise. Over the years, the services sector of the Indian economy has grown to account for 45% of total exports, up from 30% a decade ago. The Indian government, meanwhile, has been eager to support the manufacturing sector in creating mass employment, a key economic and political challenge that the services sector alone hasn't been able to address. These companies also boast moats that make them unique compared to the large BPO firms of the last three decades. Perhaps it could also address some of the risks to employment created in the BPO sector from artificial intelligence.

Earlier this week, Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee said policymakers "can't be behind the curve" if the economy is to have a soft landing. Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic said the central bank needn't go on a "mad dash" to lower rates. Later Thursday, Fed Chair Jerome Powell gives pre-recorded remarks at a conference in New York, where New York Fed President John Williams also speaks. Boston Fed President Susan Collins and Fed Governors Michelle Bowman and Lisa Cook take to the podium at various other venues as well. Minutes from the Bank of Japan's July meeting, when the central bank raised short-term interest rates, showed policymakers were divided on how quickly the central bank should raise interest rates further.

While it was an asset to Biden in polling against Trump, it appears to be a much bigger advantage for Harris. And in this new NBC poll, Harris’ advantage was just under 20 points. It’s obvious at this point that Trump will win men by close to double digits, ditto with Harris among women. But many voters have seen "Vice President Kamala Harris" as a fresher candidate, including those who previously viewed Trump as a better steward of the economy. That would spell doom for Democrats' Senate majority.

"The Fed rate cuts are likely to support inflows to money market funds over the course of the next year," Antoniewicz said. While retail investors may slow their pace of investment, institutional flows tend to ramp up since yields on money market funds lag the funds rate, she noted. That cash can stay in a money market fund, a high yield saving account or certificates of deposit. The U.S. dollar rose broadly on Thursday, recovering from an earlier tumble in the immediate aftermath of the Federal Reserve's outsized interest rate cut that had been largely priced in by markets. Fed policymakers on Wednesday projected the benchmark interest rate would fall by another half of a percentage point by the end of this year, a full percentage point next year and half of a percentage point in 2026, though they said the outlook that far into the future is necessarily uncertain. "So to expect an easing today because of what the Fed has done seems a little bit too hard to believe." Police Nab Fugitive Tortoise on Slow Run to Freedom

On an interstate highway between Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz., drivers on their morning commute called 911 to report a runaway. He was miles from home and ambling across the four-lane highway when he was finally caught by police. State troopers, with the help of a few good Samaritans, stopped traffic and picked up the escapee: Stitch, a giant sulcata tortoise with a sand-colored shell. The 14-year-old tortoise had broken out of his enclosure and a few layers of fences at the nearby Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch, a roadside animal park open to the public, before making a run for it. Danna Cogburn, an owner of the ranch, said he had been missing for two to three hours before officers told the owners they had found him on the road.

Navigating the time zone to buy tickets was the hardest part, as we hadn't yet moved to France from the United States. The cost was reasonable, too, with tickets to many events starting at about 25 euros ($27). Once the Games began and we attended our first few events, I realized it would've been quite easy to wait until the Olympics started to nab tickets instead. One day, I had the option to purchase quarter-final handball tickets for 24 euros or tickets to the men's boxing semi-finals for 305 euros. I didn't buy them, but I was surprised to find that the Olympics could be a show-up-and-go event if you're flexible enough.

In the broader market, currency moves were subdued as traders looked to central bank meetings in the U.S. and Japan next week.
