As a former dietitian of 10 years, Trader Joe's is one of my favorite places to shop for ingredients and easy, filling snacks — I've been going to the retailer for about 15 years now. However, I recently got a high-cholesterol diagnosis, so I'm trying to cut back on high-sugar foods. Here are some of my favorite things to buy to make low-sugar snacks and meals.

Autumn in New Zealand heralds the arrival of a green, egg-size fruit that falls off trees in such abundance that it is often given to neighbors and colleagues by the bucket or even the wheelbarrow load.
