They have IRAs, savings accounts, and an investment portfolio to help during retirement. Like most people, I didn't really start thinking about retirement until I was past my mid-40s. Outside of that, we have our IRAs, savings accounts, and a small self-directed investment portfolio. Life Is What You Make ItLooking back, I wish I'd started sooner, but I was fortunate.

We were planning to move back to the United States, so I began learning about childcare programs for military families in the US. We lost so much money while trying to find an approved daycare center that we ended up living paycheck to paycheck for a year. Since we couldn't get approved for the 90-Day Looking-for-Work program, I applied to another childcare subsidy program for military families, the MCCYN+ program. Many military families need help with childcareI accepted my new job offer and was hired as a contractor for the Military Family Readiness System. Because I became an expert in this situation, I began advocating for other military families.

In fact, I grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, a red state surrounded, by very religious people — many Southern Baptist. Many of us, however, were desperate to move out for better job opportunities and to grow our careers. The more populous places, like the capital Little Rock, are seen as a lot more diverse. There are typically better job opportunities there too, but those opportunities were very limited for me. It worked out, though, because moving to San Diego proved more cost-effective than the Bay Area.
