Hong Kong CNN —A Chinese investment bank known for making some of the biggest deals in the country’s tech sector during its heyday has revealed it received a massive bill for 78 million yuan ($11 million) related to the disappearance of its star banker, Bao Fan. The request for payment from unspecified Chinese authorities only deepens the mystery surrounding the whereabouts of Bao, who founded boutique investment bank China Renaissance in Beijing in 2005 and made it one of the top dealmakers for Chinese tech firms. He helped broker the 2015 merger between two of the country’s leading food delivery services, Meituan and Dianping. In February 2023, China Renaissance reported him missing amid a wider anti-corruption crackdown. CNN has reached out to the investment bank for additional information.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Ethics committee in a scathing report Thursday said it has amassed “overwhelming evidence” of lawbreaking by Rep. George Santos of New York that has been sent to the Justice Department, concluding flatly that the Republican “cannot be trusted” after a monthslong investigation into his conduct. Shortly after the panel's report was released, Santos blasted it as a “politicized smear” in a tweet on X but said that he would not be seeking reelection to a second term. Santos has maintained his innocence and had long refused to resign despite calls from many of his colleagues to do so. The ethics panel's report also detailed Santos’ lack of cooperation with its investigation and how he “evaded” straightforward requests for information. U.S. regulators on Monday sued SolarWinds, a Texas-based technology company whose software was breached in a massive 2020 Russian cyberespionage campaign, for fraud for failing to disclose security deficiencies ahead of the stunning hack. (AP) — Liberty University failed to warn its Virginia campus community about safety threats, including from individuals accused of sexual violence, and systematically underreported crime statistics, according to a Washington Post report on the preliminary findings of a long-running federal investigation. The federal law requires colleges and universities that receive federal funding to disseminate an annual security report to employees and students. The litigation was filed under under Title IX, the federal law that protects against sex discrimination in education and often overlaps with Clery. The women alleged that Liberty’s strict honor code made it “difficult or impossible” for students to report sexual violence.

Judge Arthur Engoron in his bombshell decision also canceled the New York business certificates of Trump, the Trump Organization, and the other defendants, including two of his sons, in a lawsuit by the state Attorney General's Office. The defendants in the case include Trump, his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, former Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg, company executive Jeff McConney, and Trump Organization entities. Engoron also ordered sanctions of $7,500 for five attorneys who represented the Trump defendants for making frivolous and previously rejected arguments in court filings. In the fourth criminal case, Trump is charged with falsifying business records related to a 2016 hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. Even after Engoron appointed an independent financial monitor for the Trump Organization last year, "defendants have continued to disseminate false and misleading information while conducting business," the judge wrote.
