Major tech companies have cracked down on fully remote work, including Amazon, Google, and Meta. Get into the office and soak up the knowledge within its walls, Google's former CEO says. Studies have also suggested that being fully remote decreases workers' productivity. Companies, including Amazon, JPMorgan, and Goldman Sachs, have ditched their remote work policies for full return-to-office mandates, with some even threatening to track performance or terminate those who don't comply. However, Google assured workers in October that it would not follow Amazon's expectations for staff to come into the office five days a week.

“Joe Biden should be ashamed of himself, if he knows what he’s even doing,” Trump said from the garbage truck. Former President Donald Trump held a press conference from inside a garbage truck at Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport on Wednesday. Rep. Adam Schiff, D-California, attended the Harris rally after stumping on the trail with Baldwin. He sidestepped a question about Biden’s remarks on Tuesday and Trump’s garbage truck gag response, saying he wasn’t focused on the matter. But to Harris supporters, Trump’s outrage over Biden’s comments rang hollow.

CNN —Nearly six months after Columbia University banned Khymani James, a Pro-Palestinian student activist, who said “Zionists don’t deserve to live,” the coalition that had apologized on his behalf rescinded its statement of regret – and advocated for armed resistance against Israel. “Last spring, in the midst of the encampments, Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) posted a statement framed as an apology on behalf of Khymani James,” CUAD posted Tuesday night on Instagram. “Where you’ve exhausted all peaceful means of resolution, violence is the only path forward.”Columbia, in a statement, said Wednesday that it decried any calls for acts of violence. “We aspire to be an open campus but cannot be open while we are uncertain of safety,” Columbia said in its statement. Tim Walz said he believes his rival for vice president, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, wants to solve the nation’s immigration crisis, but he questioned whether former President Donald Trump really does. Vance acknowledged that Walz wants to solve the problem, too, but he questioned whether Vice President Kamala Harris really does. Vance said he and Walz “probably agree that we need to do better” on addressing gun violence. “I think Tim Walz agreed with JD Vance significantly more times in this debate. “Look, I’ve known Tim Walz 16 years, and that’s who he is,” Colorado Gov.

Vice presidential candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz faced off in their first and only debate Tuesday night, squaring off over everything from foreign policy and the economy to the 2020 election and abortion rights. Contemporaneous newspaper reports — first reported by Minnesota Public Radio News and APM Reports — place Walz in Nebraska at the time. Fact-check: Is housing 60% more expensive during the Biden administration? “Iran, which launched this attack, has received over $100 billion in unfrozen assets thanks to the Kamala Harris administration," Vance said. As part of a prisoner exchange the Biden administration negotiated with Iran last year, $6 billion more in Iranian assets were unfrozen.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz conceded Tuesday night that he “misspoke” in the past when he claimed that he was in Hong Kong during the crackdown in Tiananmen Square in which China’s military attacked and killed pro-democracy demonstrators. The Minnesota governor said that he had been in Hong Kong during the summer of the Tiananmen Square protests, but not in June 1989, when the crackdown took place in and around the square in Beijing, the Chinese capital. The admission comes after news accounts contradicted Walz’s past contention that he was in Hong Kong as the deadly protests unfolded. Walz’s false claim that he was in Hong Kong during an epochal event in world history creates a vulnerability that Republicans will surely look to exploit. Walz first went to China after graduating from college in 1989, stopping first in what was then the British colony of Hong Kong.

The debate, hosted by CBS News in New York City, could be the last event featuring candidates from both campaigns, with Kamala Harris and Donald Trump not currently scheduled to debate again. Here are key lines from the debate, which was hosted by CBS News in New York City on Tuesday. Vance said many of the things Trump says, but he did it with a control that Trump lacks. The only answer is during the four years that Donald Trump was president. We have a historic immigration crisis because Kamala Harris started and said that she wanted to undo all of Donald Trump’s border policies. We could come together and solve this if we didn’t let Donald Trump continue to make it an issue.

Walz had previously said he visited Hong Kong in “May of ’89,” weeks before the Tiananmen Square massacre in Beijing. During a 2014 hearing of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China honoring the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square protests, Walz, then a Minnesota congressman, appeared to recall specific details of his trip to China at that time. Walz’s 2014 claim that he visited China during the Tiananmen Square protests has been repeated in media reports. When asked by CNN if Walz was in China during the Tiananmen Square protests, the Harris campaign was unable to provide evidence to substantiate Walz’s claim. ?,” Miller said in a social media post in response to clarification offered by the Harris campaign about Walz’s trips to China.

The fight over Wisconsin — considered a must-win for Harris as part of Democrats’ so-called blue wall — could tilt the election. Tim Walz has re-energized staff members in the state, a campaign official told NBC News. With more than 200 staffers statewide, the Harris campaign touts 48 offices across Wisconsin, including some in smaller, more rural areas that Trump won in 2020. But the Trump campaign is mounting its own effort in the state. An RNC official also said the Trump campaign and the Wisconsin GOP have more than 70 staff members and 40 offices across the state.

WASHINGTON — Longtime Rep. Bill Pascrell, D-N.J., was readmitted to the hospital Sunday night, just days after he was released from a weeks-long hospital stay to a rehabilitation facility, a source close to the congressman confirmed Monday. Pascrell is now receiving care at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J., the source said. Pascrell checked himself into a hospital on July 14 with a fever, which his staff said may have been caused by a respiratory illness. At 87 years old, Pascrell is the second-oldest House member, only behind retiring Rep. Grace Napolitano, D-Calif. CNN —Donald Trump’s campaign, which has whiffed in its early attacks on Kamala Harris’ new presidential campaign, will grapple this week for a more effective foothold after the vice president transformed an election of stunning surprises. On Sunday, for instance, he spread a new false conspiracy theory over the size of Harris’ rally crowd in Michigan last week. Trump’s campaign was also forced on Saturday to deny a report in The New York Times that he’d privately referred to Harris as a “b*tch” as he bemoaned her momentum. Therefore, a debate expected between Trump and Harris on ABC on September 10 looms as a pivotal new moment in the campaign. But as Trump has shown in recent days, he still hasn’t worked out a way to respond to the suddenly changed circumstances of the campaign.

Vance said “of course” he acknowledges the families of Harris and Buttigieg, and argued his comments were taken out of context. The Ohio senator said Republicans’ goal is to contrast the policies Trump stood for during his term in office with those of the Biden-Harris administration. “I think all President Trump was saying was that look, it’s kind of weird that you have so many bureaucrats making so many important decisions. “And I think that’s what President Trump was getting at.

Some business leaders and wealthy donors are hopeful that Harris will adopt more centrist policies as she outlines her agenda, especially by dialing back Biden-era antitrust crackdowns. “CEOs are wildly excited about Harris,” Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, founder and president of the Yale Chief Executive Leadership Institute, told CNN in a phone interview. Sonnenfeld pointed to confidence that Harris will protect the rule of law and hopes for recalibrated trade, regulatory and tax policies. Meanwhile, Harris, somewhat of an unknown commodity on business policy, hasn’t said much about where she stands. Another key sticking point is energy, where Trump has tried to blame the Biden-Harris administration for periods of high gas prices.

Did Biden Do Enough?

The takeaway was a split decision: Biden rambled and misspoke several times, but also displayed the confidence and depth of knowledge that his supporters had hoped to hear. Yet for many donors and Democratic officials, the performance wasn’t enough to settle the debate over whether he should stay in the race. Biden demonstrated his command of foreign policy at the news conference. Biden made two headline-making flubs: calling Vice President Kamala Harris “Vice President Trump,” and saying he followed the advice of his “commander in chief” — his own title — about military aid to Ukraine. (Earlier in the day, he introduced President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine as “President Putin” before quickly correcting himself.)

U.S. President Joe Biden speaks at a press conference during NATO's 75th anniversary summit, in Washington, U.S., July 11, 2024. President Joe Biden on Thursday mistakenly referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as "Vice President Trump" in the opening question of his highly-anticipated solo press conference in Washington. "Look, I wouldn't have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president [if] I think she's not qualified to be president," Biden said, confusing his second-in-command with his November election opponent, former President Donald Trump. Following his bungled debate performance against former President Donald Trump on June 27, Biden came into this press conference on a mission: Prove to the public that he can handle tough questions in an unscripted environment. Earlier Thursday evening, Biden added salt to his political wounds at a scripted NATO event honoring Ukraine where he accidentally introduced Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as "President Putin."
