Taco Bell is reviving five menu items from past decades for a limited time. We tried the new Decades menu and the Meximelt was our clear favorite. When the first Taco Bell restaurant opened in Downey, California, in 1962, it offered just five menu items: frijoles, tostadas, burritos, tacos, and a chili burger. Now, Taco Bell is hoping to evoke a sense of nostalgia in customers with its new "Decades" menu that features five of its previously discontinued items. We tried four items on Taco Bell's new Decades menu (the Caramel Apple Empanada will be released on November 21) and ranked them from our least favorite to our favorite.

The kiosks show the unintended consequences of technology in fast-food and retail settings, including self-checkout. Chains are now experimenting with artificial intelligence at drive-thru lanes, and the experience with kiosks holds lessons for them. It raised a familiar refrain that those workers would be replaced by technology, such as self-service kiosks. Fast-food chains and retailers need to do a better job communicating what the potential benefits of kiosks and self-checkout are to consumers and employees, Andrews said.

Shares of the operator, Shanghai-based Tims China (THCH), rose 3.6% in New York following the news. The company is best known as the operator of Tim Hortons coffee shops in China but recently bought the franchise for Popeyes in the country. “We are thrilled to open our first Popeyes restaurant in China, a milestone in our longer-term strategy,” Tims China CEO Yongchen Lu said in a statement. The fried chicken chain previously operated in China under TFI Tab Food Investments, a quick service restaurant group based in Turkey. The US company signed a new partnership deal last year with private equity firm Cartesian Capital Group, the founder and top shareholder of Tims China.

CNN —Three people have died and three others have been hospitalized after drinking milkshakes contaminated with Listeria bacteria from a restaurant in Tacoma, Washington, health officials say. Investigators found the outbreak was linked to ice cream machines that were not cleaned properly at a Frugals restaurant in Tacoma, according to a release from the Washington State Department of Health. Two of the three who survived said they had a milkshake from the same Frugals in Tacoma before getting sick. The health department said no other Frugals restaurants are believed to be affected by the outbreak. Anyone who ate at the Tacoma restaurant between May 29 and August 7 and is showing symptoms of Listeria is urged to contact a doctor, the agency cautioned.
