VCs are lobbing cash at the presidential election and key congressional races, FEC data shows. This election cycle, investors at the top venture capital firms have plowed tens of millions of dollars into the election, both backing their favored political candidates and just cannily promoting commercial interests. (The filing deadline for Q3 data for quarterly filing entities was October 15, but this data isn't yet readily available in full online.) Business Insider selected 10 venture capital firms to focus on, taking into account fund size and cultural and industry significance. Sequoia Capital's Doug Leone is one of VC's most prolific GOP-aligned political donors, giving his almost $3.8 million to the National Republican Committee and other causes.

Some business leaders and wealthy donors are hopeful that Harris will adopt more centrist policies as she outlines her agenda, especially by dialing back Biden-era antitrust crackdowns. “CEOs are wildly excited about Harris,” Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, founder and president of the Yale Chief Executive Leadership Institute, told CNN in a phone interview. Sonnenfeld pointed to confidence that Harris will protect the rule of law and hopes for recalibrated trade, regulatory and tax policies. Meanwhile, Harris, somewhat of an unknown commodity on business policy, hasn’t said much about where she stands. Another key sticking point is energy, where Trump has tried to blame the Biden-Harris administration for periods of high gas prices.

Vice President Kamala Harris joined a call with major Democratic donors Friday afternoon to discuss what the hosts called "urgent, emerging needs." The call came as more Democratic lawmakers publicly call on President Joe Biden to drop his bid for reelection. A Biden campaign official told NBC News that the president's advisers asked Harris to do the call, which Democratic megadonor Reid Hoffman, the billionaire LinkedIn co-founder, planned to join. The organizers repeated claims first made in a Biden campaign memo earlier on Friday, saying that voters still wanted Biden, even if donors and Democrats in office do not. "We know which candidate in this election puts the American people first: our President, Joe Biden," Harris said.
